Neighborhood: Upper West Side
Love the pork soup dumplings. They're not as good as Joe's Shanghai but if you're on the Upper West Side and craving dumplings, Canteen 82 is a good choice.
The choices are slim for restaurants in Okeechobee. Los Cocos was crowded with locals and the wait staff was very attentive and pleasant. The food was mediocre at best. Standard, strip-mall Mexican food with dry, reheated rice and canned refried beans. The tacos were soggy.
Monorom is a family-run restaurant in the heart of the Long Beach Cambodian community that serves authentic noodle soups and congee. I recommend the combination soup, which is a traditional mix of meat and seafood. The broth, which can vary from week to week, is tasty with strong flavors of star anise and cinnamon with a touch of sweetness. The flavors are uniquely Cambodian and will transport you back to the little soup stands along the river thoroughfares in Phnom Penh.
