I join the throng. My friend and I were shocked that anyone would review this place as less than five stars.
We hunted for it on the strangest night: the night Obama stayed next door (to me) at the Beverly Wilshire. The whole neighborhood was CRAWLING, with secret service and cops, we had to weave through them to walk from my apartment. So needless to say Harajuku Crepe was empty after we waived hello to the motorcade. The one guy there was really nice, and whipped us of the perfect Typical American sundae crepe: deliciously RICH vanilla ice cream, strawberries, bananas, Nutella, 2 Pocky sticks and whipped cream in the most perfect regular crepe I've ever had - super thin, but didn't fall apart, crispy on the edges, soft but not doughy in the center. Divine. We were ashamed of ourselves for not trying the more adventurous crepe and ice cream flavors, but really it just gives us an excuse to go back.

Came here while I was still living in Beverly Hills to get my man his first tres leches birthday cake. La Monarca had one already made and put it on hold for me. When I went to pick it up, it took all the willpower I had not to grab 5 pan dulces and try every kind of drinking chocolate they had - that place smelled so good!!
The tres leches cake was super mojado, like it should be. It was very delicious, although not as boozey as my favorite at Panaderia Mexico in Van Nuys. Still, it was excellent and kept for a couple days. One thing though, this place isn't that cheap, and they don't pipe frosting messages like "happy birthday" directly on to the cake - they pipe it onto a piece of clear plastic and put it on top of the cake. huh?? Sooo, is this standard practice? And does that mean you're supposed to lick the frosting off of the plastic?
Whatever, I'm still going back.
