I'm not the gym-going type, and this Equinox location is paving my way to becoming a gym rat.
The place is well laid out, and has friendly, knowledgeable staff. It hardly ever smells like socks/armpit (only exception is when this one guy comes in every so often and I immediately start bleeding from my eyes), and the staff keeps it incredibly clean. Filtered water fountains, minty face towels in the refrigerator, new equipment in perfect working order. Great classes and personal training sessions.
It never gets too crowded here, although I hear overachieving Wall St types come in droves early in the morning, before going to their high-powered banking jobs -- but again, I'm not the type, so I go in for my leisurely workouts later in the day.
Monthly fees are high ($170 or so), but I figure if I spend $170 and work out 5 times a week because I like it, that's better than spending $50 a month and never going because it's smelly and crowded.

First of all: they packed a lidded cup with ice for my Diet Coke. That's class. And they taped down the lid so the ice cubes wouldn't go everywhere. I wanted to give the delivery guy a hug.
The chopped salad looked so sad and tiny for $10, but then I started eating it and it was just so crunchy and fresh and unputdownable. Everything in there was chopped to the same dimensions. There is a major Type A manning the veg station over there. I salute you, veg-person. Stay anal.
As for the chicken and waffles, what can I say? I started with the chicken: crispy, perfectly seasoned, really juicy. Didn't want it to stop, but I forced myself to put it down and try the fluffy waffle, which came with a maple butter drizzle that should be a standard condiment for all breakfasts the world over. Pretty perfect.
