Current CrushI would tell you but my wife would hurt me
My wife and I were driving up from Miami on our way back to North Carolina on I-95, and needing a place to eat, we pulled off on Exit 49. We were going to grab fast food, when we saw a bar-b-q restaurant filled with police cars parked in the lot. Police offices know good barbeque, so we decided to give it a try. Brilliant!
The menu is simple and the meats are smoked for hours to complete perfection. You have your choice of several different meats, and I tried the rib platter. The ribs were amazingly tender and infused with a smokey goodness throughout. With several sauce options, you can pick the right flavor for you to compliment the dry rubbed, smoked meat.
The biggest surprise for my wife and I, was the sweet potato fries. The fries are very good, but also come with a delicious sauce that is part sweet, and part cinnamon in flavor. Great pairing with the sweet potato.
Now that we know this gem of a barbeque is here, we plan to alter our road trips through the area. Great example of a pure American bar-b-q spot.
The atmosphere is perfect with bachata playing in the background, nice decorations, and perfectly friendly people. We ordered the tostones y salami frito, ox tail, and la bandera.
Since I don't spanish, I wouldn't know what the meant really. But, I can tell you the last dish is an amazing blend of beans and rice, avocado, steak, fried egg, sausage, fried pork, and fried plantain. Yes, that is all one dish, and I could only finish half. I left full and happy.
If you are looking for some authentic carribean cooking, this restaurant is a must.
(...Also, I hear they will be expanding beginning May 1st for late nights on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights for dancing until 4AM. Thank you Caribbean Cafe! We now have a slice of South Florida right around the corner.)
The food excellent. My wife had Pad Thai which she ordered with a side of peanut sauce. The noodles had they right texture and the ingredients tasted very fresh. The peanut sauce was full of flavor, not just run of the mill as many are.
I had the Green Curry Chicken which was also excellent...but it's spicy! I sweated more than I was ready for, because getting a waiter's attention to refill your iced tea can be a mission. However the curry chicken tasted as fresh as the Pad Thai was.
Only drawback on the food was the Thai Iced Tea, which had an odd earthy taste to it. It's strange that everyone makes Thai iced tea so differently.
Overall, I am definitely going back.

The empanadas are great, with the right spices and good amounts of meat. The deditos are also a great compliment, which is simply cheese wrapped in pastry bread, but somehow comes out tasting like a sweet treat. Grab some coffee, (traditional latin varieties found in any good Miami cafe) and you are good-to-go. Friendly staff gets you out of there in only a few minutes, or you can take your time at a table.
The only drawback, is that they don't accept credit cards. Hey, the card companies do charge some nasty rates, so I can't complain too much. Overall, a must whenever I am staying in West Kendall.
