The Home Depot

I'm giving 5 stars to this particular Home Depot bc I have consistently received great customer service here, really above and beyond help in troubleshooting home improvement projects.  Clint's boss should give him a raise!  Also, I have generally found better quality items at better prices here than at Lowes.

Seattle Best Tea Corporation

Categories: Restaurants, Coffee & Tea
Neighborhood: International District

I love tea, and when I drink oolongs I'm generally looking for:
1. Fragrance, I like floral and complex fragrances in oolongs
2. Flavor, I like the floral notes to be tempered with a bitter earthy edge of the green leaves
3. Oils, great oolongs have wonderful plant oils that release in the heat and can be best tasted when the tea cools to just above room temperature as the oils will be a bit thicker and more pronounced in their flavor
4. Aftertaste.  With a great combo of flavor and oils, the subtle aftertaste of an oolong can linger in my mouth for close to an hour or more

This place, like Floating Leaves,  has really great high mountain Taiwanese oolongs that do something special for me in all the above categories.  If you live in Seattle you are blessed to have great teas available in driving distance, and you can enjoy them in the rain.  lol

Pinto Thai Cuisine

Category: Thai
Neighborhood: Normal Heights

2 stars is probably a little harsh bc the service was great and the ambiance is nice, but I always rate on flavor and the flavor here was completely ruined by an extremely heavy hand with the sugar in all the sauces.  I had the fresh spring rolls and those were good, 4 star spring rolls.  Then I had the tom kha soup and it was WAY to sweet with soggy gross shrooms.  By the time I finished that my throat was coated with sugar like I had just eaten candy.  Then my friend's Thai iced tea came out, which was huge, but so ridiculously sugary, like a candy drink.  Then the pra ram came out with the mock duck, which was good except the sauce was so freaking sweet.  I could not eat much of the food and I would not eat here again.  If you like your Thai food absurdly sweet then disregard my poor rating bc the overall presentation and ambiance is nice here..

Parsian International Market and Deli

Pretty good kabobs and rice, 3 stars for that, but I bump them up to 3.5 stars bc I really like the hummus here sold at the deli.  It's just a deli in a market, but the Persian cats running the place give good service so it's worth a visit if you are in the area.

I don't know much about authentic bbq, but this seems more like tasty fast junk food than authentic bbq flavors.  Nonetheless, pretty good fast food, sure beats a burger.

Nice, another good Sichuan restaurant in SD, that's beautiful.  I put this on the level of Spicy City.  I had the spicy chicken and spicy fish here and it was actually better than Spicy City, but the pickled seaweed was a little sweeter and less spicy, so I still give Spicy City props for addictive pickled seaweed in the cold bar.  This place sure seemed authentic, I will be back.

Super Bronco Mexican Restaurant

2.5 stars.  I was completely underwhelmed by the food here.  I tried a few of their specials and everything was lukewarm and relatively bland.  I have never tried their breakfast food, just lunch/dinner.

If you need tupperware, this is your spot, best deals I've found.  Plus, lots of other kitchen items at great prices.

I don't know anything about Persian food, but I came here based on yelp reviews and I spent $6.50 for a large plate of chicken and rice and salad with flavor profiles I never had before.  That's beautiful.  I picked up some hummus from the grocery store too and it was delicious.  It's gotta be pretty authentic cause I was the only non-Persian in this MF.

I would give it 4 stars, but it's not consistently delicious.  The market this deli is in is pretty cool too.  Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

This place is not bad if you like faux meat.  Based on my experience, I recommend avoiding the soups.  I ordered the bun hue per the waitress' recommendation that it would be spicy and it was so freaking bland that I had to ask for extra lime and chili and soy sauce to make it edible and the staff was not very helpful with that.  Probably a vegan restaurant should not even try to imitate a soup that authentically has pork blood as a key ingredient in the broth, right?  Still, the appetizer rolls and the lemongrass chicken that I had were tasty enough that I wouldn't write this place off., and it is very inexpensive.  If you are gluten intolerant then be forewarned that most fake meats use a significant amount of gluten.
