Wow.... I am shocked at the positive reviews of this place.  We didn't have a good experience at all.

My husband and I came here for lunch last week and we were both starving so we decided to splurge and order a lot of sushi.  It was such a mistake doing that when we didn't know what the sushi would be like.

We ordered a 2nd street roll and a caterpillar roll as well as the following sushi: salmon, toro, and scallop with mayo.

It is true you do get big portions here.  But what is the point when it's just not good?

The caterpillar roll came first.  The avocado was extremely fresh and it looked beautiful and we were hungry so we eagerly stuffed ourselves.  Unfortunately after taking a bite we realized the seaweed was NOT fresh and it was hard to bite through it.  I had to stuff the whole piece into my mouth because it was impossible to bite it in half.

The 2nd street roll came next.  It looked OK and tasted OK.  There wasn't anything special about it.

Then the toro came.  Man... it looked awesome.  They were huge generous slices and had beautiful coloring.  But then I took a bite and instantly regretted ordering it.  It had some thick stringy thing running through it and tasted extremely fishy (i.e. not fresh) and did NOT melt in my mouth.  I chewed and swallowed it really quickly and then downed large gulps of tea to take the fishy taste out.

The salmon and scallop with mayo came next and like the toro, the slices of salmon were huge and the pieces of scallop were also big.  But the salmon was also too fishy and chewy.  I ended up only eating one piece and could not bring myself to eat the other.

The scallop is the only thing I don't have a complaint about.  It tasted pretty fresh and had a good texture.

Overall we were really disappointed.  We decided to try it on a whim and hadn't read any Yelp reviews on it beforehand - though that wouldn't have helped us, in this case.  I don't think we will be back here.

My husband and I have been here twice.  The first time it was soon after their grand opening and I probably would have given it 2 stars... they hadn't ironed out all their kinks yet.  We went there again yesterday and I was interested to see if they had improved.  They had... but not much.

I definitely have to give them kudos on their noodles, which are really good.  I love the chewiness of the hand-made noodles.  That pretty much earned them the 3 stars.

Everything else is mediocre.  Service was bad because although there were two waitresses, only one was really doing any work.

I ordered the pork stew noodles.  In the menu, the picture shows chunks of stewed pork belly and the veggies are baby bok choy.  What I actually got was chunks of cheap pork and the veggies were iceberg lettuce.  ICEBERG LETTUCE.  And the soup tasted like someone went crazy with the star anise.

My husband ordered the BBQ pork rice dish.  He said the pork was flavorful but the rice was old and dry.

Definitely seems like they are cutting costs.

I'll probably come back and try some other noodle soups (I really did like the consistency of the noodles).

Sous Kitchen, Inc.

Since I am due soon, my friend suggested that I look into one of these services.  This summer Sous Kitchen has a deal where they waive the $5 assembly fee for each To Go order (this is where you don't have to go to prepare the food yourself, you just pick up food that they've already cut up and frozen).  I bought 6 different meals and had them split each one in half - a split meal is about $15 and supposedly feeds 2-3 people.

Overall, I think it is fantastic.  I've loved not having to think "what should I make for dinner tonight?" and going to the store and buying the food then chopping it up and then cleaning up.  They have been incredibly easy to prepare.  I also love that they are pretty healthy.

One thing I didn't realize is that these are not whole meals... you still have to prepare sides, because alone they don't feed 2-3 people.  In fact, even with sides, they really only feed 2 people and even then it is just enough to satisfy you - this is not a bad thing, considering how overly huge restaurant portions are these days.  I liked that it was a perfect portion to satisfy us without stuffing us silly.

We first tried the Chili Lime Steak with Mexican Rice, which I overcooked.  It had a good flavor but was too spicy for my husband and my son.  I stir-fried some broccoli as a side.  The rice was a bit dry.

Next was the Satay Chicken Stir Fry.  Being Chinese, I liked this meal the least.  It's exactly that: stir fry - the white people version of Asian food.  It was chicken, snow peas, sliced carrots, and broccoli stir fried with a peanuty sauce.  The jasmine rice that came with the meal wasn't the best quality.  After this I decided not to get any more Asian meals from them.  I didn't make a side for this since it seemed like it should be a complete meal, but it wasn't enough food at all.

After that, we had the Baked Ziti - basically pasta with a meat sauce baked with cheese on top.  This was very good; the flavoring was perfect.  I also baked some Pillsbury croissants as a side.

Tonight, we had Paella Valenciana.  Also excellent.  This was the only meal where we felt stuffed afterwards cuz it was actually quite a bit of food, and I didn't make any side dishes either.

We have two more meals to go and I have to say it's been a success so far.  In fact, I just ordered 9 more meals from their September menu (to take advantage of the free assembly deal).

Eh... not impressed.  I went there for lunch today by myself.  Being pregnant, I was craving sushi but knew I could only get cooked sushi, so I ordered a california roll and a rock n' roll (eel, avocado, cucumber).  Each roll was about $7.  I also ordered a Coke.  Took out a book and prepared to enjoy an hour of reading before having to go back to work.

What a disappointment!  The Coke was flat, first of all.  And barely cold.  They were nice enough to refill it halfway through my meal with more flat lukewarm Coke.  The rolls were tiny.  For $7 a roll I would have expected a little more rice at least.  But there was barely any rice, barely any filling, and the seaweed was chewy.  The rice kept falling off into my soy sauce until I had a porridge-y sauce.  And somehow the california roll was extremely bland.  I kept mixing more wasabi into my soy sauce until it was a thick greenish-brown paste, hoping to spice it up more, but the rolls stayed stubbornly bland.  Finally I just put globs of wasabi directly on each piece and it was more bearable.  Luckily they gave me a lot of wasabi.  They must have some weak wasabi because normally I can't take THAT much.

But, the green tea ice cream was good.  Don't ask me why I risked ordering it after the horrible sushi, but I'm glad I did because it was the only good part of my meal.

All along I kept getting the feeling that the waitresses were trying to rush me along, which was annoying (especially since the place was not busy).  I was barely there for 40 minutes before I gave up trying to enjoy myself, paid the $25 check, and left.  I probably won't go back.
