I think Happy Nails is overpriced. There. I said it. And I'm not ashamed.
The place is clean. And I had a gift certificate. But my nail technician was SUPER rough and kept leaving and doing other things. Can you say ANNOYING.
I'll stick with my $18 pedi from Elegant Nails in South Pas. That's the Cheers of nail salons. Everybody knows my name.

What a great cafe! It's a bit on the pricey side but you get a lot for your buck (as in, take some home for later!). This is a casual eatery (walk up and order, then take a seat and they'll bring it to your table) which has a bright cheery interior. Service was very friendly and efficient.
I had the tuna salad which was delish. No mayo, which is perfect for me. Fresh salad and yummy lemon dressing. My compatriot had the curry chicken salad which she liked as well. WE took home the gigantic cupcakes. the chocolate was better than the red velvet and the frosting was good.
I'm definitely going to have to go back for a panini. They looked SO good.

Skin spa is a decent day spa. It's not extraordinary but I've been to worse. My friend Katy and I went for spa week so we got $50 treatments, which is a steal! My esthetician was Helle who was excellent. Very thorough and sweet and she was extra sensitive to the fact that I'm a nursing mother.
Upside: Nice quiet room with very comfy chairs, niagra shower which is fabulous, sauna, an outside spa with a couple cabanas (very small area though).
Downside: women's locker/shower area is WAY too small and needs to be expanded, spa is co-ed (I like women's only areas).
I experienced good front office treatment, the receptionists were nice and showed me around the spa so that I could take advantage of all the extras and they offered me water or tea.
I would go back. I found it to be nice and not crowded (unlike Burke Williams which is always too busy for my taste).

Very cute store. I happened to be next door and dropped in here on a whim just to peruse. They had a very nice (albeit expensive) selection of organic baby goods: clothing, blankets, towels, toiletries, toys. One small criticism is that everything is NATURAL colored. I'm wondering if that's their whole gimmick?
My advice is get some color in your store! There are so many wonderful natural products in lovely vibrant colors, especially for babies.

Bad bad bad service! Shame on you for not helping a new mom out! (Ok, so I know my way around a baby store, but in this economy I expect a little lube with the butt ramming prices you have to pay for stuff.)
I walked in and made two rounds of the store before ever being acknowledged. Then when I asked for something specific, I was pointed in the general direction with a "we might be out of them." Yeah, great service. I'd almost rather take my business to the dreaded Babies R Us.
That said, they have a good selection of stuff, some of it nice and out of the ordinary like My Blankees, but you can buy Born Free bottles at Target now so I think the Juvenile Shop needs to step it up a notch.

Perfect for what it was- a quick and easy lunch that was tasty and didn't break the bank. I had the BLT with avocado and it was great. They have a kids meal too which was very convenient. The bread was really good. My husband loved his tuna melt. I like that it came with carrot sticks too...a nice healthy alternative.
And they had some very sinful chocolate chip cookies too. Drat, I'm on a diet!!!

Don Jose's Mexican Restaurants

This place has been her FOREVER. I grew up 2 blocks away and always loved the Hoser (as we called it) back in the day. Tonight we were visiting my mom and decided to get some take out from the Hoser. For the price, it was great. You know, it's nothing ground breaking, but it's decent Mexicalifornia fair. Good salsa. Spicy guac. Yummy tamales. The fajitas are only ok, but my hubby loved his Mexican pizza.
So if you are craving some Mex with not a lot of "authentic" expectations but want some good salsa and guac to go along with it, the Hoser is your place. It's always busy so beware.

On a total whim, my friend and I met up here. We wanted a place in the middle of our offices and North Hollywood turned out to be "it." Miyako was a great choice. It was easy to find, not crowded, and the food was top notch. The sushi chefs were great and recommended some specials. I always judge my sushi bars by their yellowtail. This one was creamy and perfect. We also tried:
Spicy tuna on crispy rice
Blue Crab cut roll
Albacore
Crunch roll
All were good if not great and I would go back there just for the crispy rice thingy which melted in my mouth with a taste explosion!
I hadn't had sushi in over a year and what a way to go back! Excellent!

Not bad for a bar in an…
Last weekend we tried out Kujo's. The in laws go for the sandwiches but the sign said "world famous quiche." I'll be damned if I'm not going to try something that's world famous! And it was truly delicious. Flaky crust, fresh ingredients. I was very happy in my little quiche coma. Came with a fresh salad on the side. My husbands cheese steak looked pretty darn good too.
The space is a little cramped and a little run down but the service was pleasant (and the waitress was super nice to my little guy). Food was A+ and I'll definitely go back to try a different variety of quiche.
