Absolutely LOVE this Irish pub. Excellent small selection of microbrews and the food is outstanding. I highly recommend the whiskey burger with a Dogfish ale. There are nightly specials on both drinks and meals and the atmosphere is relaxing with great music (Coldplay, Pearl Jam, some 70s rock). Probably not suitable for kids, but great for a dinner meeting or night out. Show owner comment »

I brought my 4 year old and 2 year old here for their first dental visits, and I could not believe how well it all went. Both of my kids are VERY uneasy with new things, but the staff here was awesome at keeping them entertained and comfortable. I loved how they involved the kids in the cleaning and taught them about oral hygiene at the same time.

The setup of the office is worth mentioning, as it made it so quick & easy to bring both of my small kids at the same time. Both kids were cleaned & checked at the same time and I was able to be with both since their chairs were literally just feet from eachother.

I will keep going back, as I feel very lucky to have found this office so close to home!

We visited this restaurant for the first time today, and overall it was a nice experience. Lunch for my family of 4 (including a 3 and a 1 year old) was only $16 total, and you can't beat that for all you can eat.

The buffet is small, but the food was good and "better for you". They claim to use whole grains in their crust and part skim cheese, which definitely doesn't hurt.

There is lots of variety in the pizzas (buffalo chicken, caprese, BLT, along with the traditional cheese, pepperoni, supreme), a little salad area, and a small dessert area. There are also a few pastas, including mac & cheese, and some soups.

There was plenty of seating for the weekend lunchtime crowd, and a cute little chalkboard wall for kids to play at while the adults finish eating and chatting.

Overall a nice experience with good food - I'd go again when in the area.

Gino's East - CLOSED

I went to this Gino's East for a social event earlier this week and was very pleased all around. The server for our group was amazing, making sure every need of ours was met. We had plenty of space and the environment of the Embassy Suites surrounding us was very relaxing and made me feel like I was on vacation!

The pizza was amazing, of course, but what really surprised me was how good some of the appetizers were! I tried spinach puffs and they were melt-in-your-mouth good, and the potstickers were some of the best I've ever had! My friends got some potato skins and they were huge and piled with goodies (I should've grabbed one!).

There's also a full bar including a few tap beers (including Honker's Ale....nom nom!).

Overall great experience and I will be back!

My first time to the Third Rail was last night, and I know I'll be back even though it's an hour away.

They have a great beer selection, including Fat Tire on tap. This is one of my favorite beers of all time, so if a place has it on tap they are a winner in my book.

I also had a grilled cheese (custom - cheddar and swiss on grilled sourdough) and it was the BEST GRILLED CHEESE I've ever eaten...ever. The pub fries were also delicious - the parmesan cheese made them irresistable.

I was here for a meetup event and the staff was very welcoming, coming by often to see what we needed.

Plenty of street parking - paid on Madison or go to one of the sidestreets for free parking.

Champps Americana

I've been back and forth on this place over the past several years. I've always loved the atmosphere and location. It is a big restaurant with a large bar area and there are MANY flat screen TV's mostly displaying sports all throughout the restaurant.

Meals are pricy ($10-$15 per plate) but the portions are huge (as a girl who usually finishes her plate, I always have leftovers here). I'm a fan of the burgers, tuna melts, and the cobb salads. Upgrade to waffle fries - they are awesome. And finish off with the mile-high ice cream pie - great dessert!

Service is so-so. Not much more to say than that. Nothing stellar, but they take your order and get you your food. Won't be perfect, though.

If you're looking for some good, standard American fare, this is a decent place to go if for nothing else but the TV's (they keep my husband and kids entertained!).

Mickey Finn's Brewery

I'm a huge fan of Mickey Finn's Brewery for several reasons:

1. Their microbrews are OUTSTANDING. There are 8 standard brews, and I LOVE 6 of them. My favorite is the Q-dog with nitrogen.
2. Their food is amazing. My favorites are the veggie panini (seriously, even if you don't like veggie subs/sandwiches, this thing is awesome), and the cobb salad. But DO NOT forget the BEER NUGGETS!!!
3. The atmosphere is great. It is fitting for families, couples, singles, business gatherings, etc. It's not too loud to have a conversation, and the restaurant and bar are large enough that you can almost always find a place to sit.
4. I'm a geek, so I love places with free wi-fi, and Mickey Finn's has it.

Couple tips - there is usually plenty of street parking, but do know there is additional parking behind the restaurant. Also, most weekends there is live music on the 2nd floor!

Rugan's

I went to this place for the first time last night, though my family hangs out there often. It's a little tapas restaurant and bar in Antioch right in the downtown area.

(I went at about 9pm on a Saturday night, more for live music and drinks than for tapas. Hopefully someone else can add a review on the food.)

Rugan's has a pleasant, well lit atmosphere; a bit more upscale than you'd normally think of for Antioch. There is live music, mostly acoustic, some nights of the week, and the audience is involved. They have a full bar, including martinis, wine, and many microbrews.

If you are a microbrew fan, consider joining the "Beer Fraternity" where you drink beers from a list and when the list is complete you get...um...satisfaction? Seriously, I don't think there is any reward for drinking all of the 40 or so beers on the list. It's just a journey to go on as a beer lover.

Interesting note about this place - there are a few "private" curtained-off tables, I'm assuming for romantic dates and the like. I haven't seen this at many places, but definitely thought it could be appropriate for some.

If you are looking for an honest & quick mechanic in Lake County, go see Dick Strang Automotive. We have gone to Dick for about 2 years now and have always left paying way less than we ever thought for some of the general maintanance and a couple breakdowns on our 10 year old vehicle. His rates are reasonable, he gets the work done quickly, and we've always found him to be honest & straightforward with what he's found and his recommendations for action.

Continental Airlines - CLOSED

Neighborhood: Downtown

I was actually very pleased with my latest Continental Airlines experience. First, I got great flight times at a great price (Chicago to Houston for $224 total). Second, both flights got me to my destinations right on time. And third, they actually served a meal both ways...for no extra cost.

The only negative is that they, like most other airlines now, are charging fees for checked baggage. I did end up having to check 1 bag for a total of $25 on the trip home. Not the worst, but I kind of wish they'd just stick an extra $25-50 to every ticket and not nickel & dime us on the extra fee to check bags.
