Sauce On Hampton

I found this place looking for a new "walking distance" breakfast place after a recent move north from Hermosa.  To me, nothing could beat Martha's white corn scramble, and there has been a small void in my weekends without a go-to breakfast place.  Alas, Sauce, doesn't seamlessly achieve this designation, but its a decent option near my new apartment.

The coffee was yummy; the outside seating is quaint.  As others have mentioned, the staff isn't the most 'together' but they are quite kind.  They handed us "2-page menus" which were both the same, so I think I missed out on half of what they serve... Food is served pretty quickly and you can tell its fresh.  My mexican omelet was large, tasty, and served with fresh greens and whole wheat toast.  My friend's side of sweet potatoes (which confused the waitress to no end... she wanted them 'in addition to, not in lieu of' and had to explain it and they still didn't get it right!) were really good, and she enjoyed the rest of her breakfast too.

All in all, I would recommend it!

FIG Restaurant

Went to Fig for the DineLA set menu was impressed and stuffed after a delightful dinner with 4 other lovely USC Marshall la-days...

They had a great offering that we attempted to sample, but somehow we we still drawn to a few of the options...  Being the only vegetarian in the group, I can go a little more indepth into those dishes, but don't worry their were some carnivores with me!

For appetizers, I had the Roasted Tomato soup with was rich and flavorful without being tangy at all.  Three of my dining friends had the Chicken Liver Pate which they all remarked was unbelievably tasty and served in these really cute mason jars... The last diner had the Quinoa Salad with squash and almonds. (I tasted this, but she had already devoured the squash!)... She said that was the best part, but the salad had a lot of flavors and was grainy, but in a good way.

For our main courses (which were huge! and right now, i'm writing this review while eating my leftovers), I had the Spinach Risotto which was rich and accented with peas, crimini mushrooms, and other baby vegetables. I would order it again!  A few of the ladies had the Meatloaf and each tore through their meal because of its wonderful taste.  The last diner had the squid which was a unique combination of black rice, squid, and proscuitto...

I don't even want to talk about the dessert, because I indulged! Most of us tried to palate cleanse through the sorbet which was fresh and uber fruity (the pear and raspberry were my favorite!) and one got the chocolate pot which was SOOO rich and really, really, really good.

The dineLA made the price a little more reasonable, but the size of the entrees and flavor justified the dollars spent for sure.

Overall the atmosphere was comfortable without being squishy, and chic without being pretentious -- little things like the mason jars, the individual, crusty breadloafs in a brown paper bag, and  how your receipt came on a slice of wood, were all super cool touches.

I would go back!

i probably should have written a review of this place ages ago... cause i think i've been here a million times.  It has so much more going for it than Noahs (which I do enjoy every once in awhile).  This place, though has character and coffee!  I'm relatively addicted to getting an everything bagel with egg and cheese... it seems fresh (but, yes, its cooked in a microwave, and its probably american cheese).  But the bagels are toasted and tasty and the sandwich isnt greasy -- its good.  They have vanilla coffee and regular, and the service is quick and super friendly.   Every once in awhile, I'll get here later in the day, but I'll still end up with breakfast.  Though the menu and the pastries look good too!

(oh yeah, i've sat here and used the wi-fi too... its free!)

I was sent to Imprint Revolution because I had such a small order to create.  Everyone that I spoke with was super helpful throughout the process. I had VERY little decided when I made the initial phone call so it was great to work with someone to pick the font, t-shirt and design.  They said it would take a week to make, but it was faster than they predicted--awesome! The only downfall was that the women's shirts fit small, but that wasn't Imprint Revolutions problem -- it was American Apparel.

World On Wheels

Seriously, you were expecting a roller skating rink in 2009 at the corner of San Vicente and Venice to be anything other than trashy? That is totally the draw of this place.

I haven't been roller skating since middle school in the midwest and this place was almost exactly like what I remember a rink being -- I think the people that work there probably started about that many years ago.

They totally are sassy... When we arrived (decked out in our disco attire), I asked if the skates run big, and the guy behind the counter just handed me a pair and said, "wear these"... a little taken aback, I shrunk away and put them on... ok, so they fit, but it wasn't really the customer experience that I've come to treasure from some other places in LA... there was also a sweaty sock left in the skate too, but thats part of the charm!

At the beginning of the session (1030pm) you were able to ease into things, but as things progresses (1130ish) it got CRAZY... the music was pumping, the skate dancers were out, and i was WAY outskated and needed to take a break.

You could watch people with undeniable skillz and even more sass. There was a dude that even turned to me as I was working on a "trick" (uh, like an out-in, not-hard, forward-skate motion) and say, "C'mon its not that hard"... well, buddy, i appreciate your truthiness, but it was for me!

But it was totally worth it, there were people with tricked out skates, ice skater like routines, and general awesome-ness (and a lot of animal prints and spandex).

I would totally come back.

I was here last time that I came up to mammoth and had an awesome breakfast... the past weekend, I was up in Mammoth again and asked a local where to have the best breakfast.  She said "good life" and I thought it sounded tasty without realizing it was familiar... When i walked into the cute place complete with awesome murals, I realized that she was TOTALLY right!  The Nancy's Omelet is awesome and the hash browns are the perfect level of crispy... my friends had pancakes which were amazing, the breakfast burrito which was HUGE and another egg dish that was tasty.

Christopher's review below is much more involved than I will be, but its also very spot-on.  Taste is a lovely place with great food, kind staff, and a delightful environment.

My family ended up at Taste after the Rockette's around christmas kinda randomly and were very pleasantly surprised... my nephew (age 2) had to join us and the staff and owners went ABOVE AND BEYOND to try to keep him calm and enjoying a place that he really shouldn't have been.

We had a delightful bottle of wine (uh, 2) and a variety of the entrees.

I had the veggie chausson (french for FLAKY and AMAZING) and it literally melted in my mouth.  My one sister had the the scallops which were buttery and lovely... my other sister had the chicken spring rolls which were fresh and tasty.  My dad (who hates veggies) had the sirloin steak which he enjoyed and he even at the Jerusalem artichokes and really enjoyed them! Finally, my mother regarded the rack of lamb as succulent.

I would have loved to try the desserts, but I was too stuffed!

My fam left and I had a drink at the bar and they took great care of me!

Next time, I'd love to have a normal sans-nephew meal so I could enjoy the place again!

Pizza is a misnomer.... it should be called Loft BEER... this place is kinda ridiculous because its SO Cheap to have a beer here. They always seem to have a deal on something (Bud Light or Miller or whatever). Every time I come back to Ohio I end up at the loft in one of the wooden booths drinking a LOT of beer here, and I almost never can even get to the credit card minimum!  Great place to just relax and have a drink.

I really should have reviewed this YEARS ago, since i think that my dad has dragged me to Mike's for many, many sundays after church.  But then, yelp didn't exist years ago, so I had to wait till I was back to mikes a few weeks ago...

It is one of the quintessential greasy spoons... complete with skillet breakfasts and witty menu descriptions.  They have 85 ways to fry an egg and most of them include fat. Its got delicious potatoes and great coffee. The decorations are humorous and its NE Ohio flair is unforgettable.

I love going back to breakfast at Mikes...

randomly ended up here after a little yelp-reading action... it was exactly the locals-like place that i expected.  big beers, big burgers, and big, uh... fun?  Anyway, I saw Elvis here and that just added to my enjoyment of the place!  The servings were huge and the veggie burger and fries was really good. (I had avocado, etc. on it and more!) There was a lot of action going on for a thursday night and it had a great vibe. I definitely recommend it.
