You take a seat in a cramped, damp, dark theatre that has been desperately needing serious renovations. The show flies by in a whirl of flashing lights, splattered paint, thrown food, beaten drums and completely silent and dead pan men...thrillingly followed by a downpour of toilet paper. It is then that you realize that you have spent $75 to watch what seems like fun...but you had no part in it. You'll have what I refer to as "show-hangover"...the aftermath of spending a lot of money and getting about $10 worth of entertainment (and that's a stretch).
It is a gimmicky tourist trap, surpassed by better and more entertaining shows like Fuerza Bruta and the (now closed) De La Guarda.
Don't waste your time, money or a subway ride to see this show. Do a little research and you'll easily find better ways to be entertained in far less of an annoying way.

Rock Of Ages

...well...it's for all you people out there in Yelp land. Go see Rock of Ages. It is the stupidest, most ridiculous, unbelievably good time you will have at a Broadway show. I've seen it four times (as of this posting); once off-Broadway and three times at the Brooks Atkinson. From the third row in center orchestra to the last row rear mezzanine, there isn't a bad place to sit and see this show.
The story is complete and utter camp (done well...unlike the atrociously underdeveloped and poorly written Glee on TV) and has you laughing from the pre-curtain speech to the final bow. The music rocks the theatre. The cast is amazing and has only gotten better after the past year of running the show.
Go see the show...then go back and bring more friends. It is entertainment at its best...OH...and you can drink all through the show. If you sit on an isle (or pretty near it) you can get waitress service even during the show. That's amazing.

Upon entry (and being told to take hats off) you proceed to WALK up to the 5th floor and to a semi-chaotic coat check. Inside the unpleasantly dark and loud bar/carnival forces its way into your brain with the fury of a screaming four year old.
The waitresses are over their job, the carnies are...well...carnies and the place just oozes sleaze.
Hot dogs, pretzels and corn dogs range anywhere from $5 to $8...I didn't stay long enough to find out what cost what.
Expensive, loud and completely obnoxious, you surely could find worse things to do in the city...I've yet to find out what that could be...
In looking for a place to get my haircut in downtown, I happened to walk by here on the way to go to lunch at Cucina 24. Little did I know that this place has been in business for about 15 years now!
Brett cut my hair and I will forever be a patron. Great technique, service and conversation. This place rocks and is not as expensive or "unapproachable" as other hair salons in the downtown area.

Outdoor seating in the River Arts District...only other places to eat as of now are 12 Bones and Clingman Ave. Cafe. This place adds a nice sandwich, burger, wrap, salad option...and everything that I've tried is great.
The Med platter, Burger and (if they have it on special) the Hot Roast Beef Wrap.

The burgers are fine...tasty but slightly overcooked. The sauce on the burger is good...but doesn't really make it exceptional. The shakes are small and at $5.50 I would expect them to be freakin' amazing. They are just "ok". The fries were good...again...not anything really to shake a stick at. So for a double burger, fries and a shake the total (before tip and tax) is about $16.
Meh.

Sadly Cafe on the Square couldn't keep up with the food at Bistro 1896 when it came to service and taste. But luckily for us Posana came to take its place.
The service is friendly, the lounge area EXACTLY what the Pack Square area needed and the menu not overly ambitious. They have the artwork (at the time of this writing) of Jonas Gerard on the walls inside and it fits perfectly with the style of the interior. Check him out at http://www.jonasgerard...
Go here before Green Sage.
Lynn Boggess' art is absolutely fantastic and is some of the best work that they have featured. I also enjoy Larry Gray's work of vast landscapes of mountains and clouds.
Check it out when in town.

Rankin Vault Cocktail Lounge

The service is good, the specialty cocktails simple but tasty and it is a truly unique and comfortable atmosphere. It is worth the short walk off the beaten path (Walnut Street) to get to this great place.
The Cucumber Martini is swell.

The room itself is nothing to write home about. I think that there was bamboo and paper on the walls. I honestly can't recall anything exceptional.
The service is slow (the appetizer came out approximately 45 seconds before the entree) and inattentive. Getting the water glass refilled took far to much effort on my part.
The food was passable for Vietnamese. It was "cheap" for Union Square but wasn't really worth it. I had the Chicken sautéed with veggies in a brown sauce with rice noodles. Meh...there wasn't much flavor. The veggies were undercooked and the chicken might as well have been tofu for its complete lack of flavor.
If you have to go somewhere, I guess you could go here...but if you are planning ahead, don't waste your time.
