When I entered, I was greeted with a "No California Rolls or Spicy Tuna Rolls" sign.  That was fine, I get tired of those anyway.  Then the waitress asked me a very important question: would I like to sit at the sushi bar or at a table?  The bar is chef's choice and he could have served me whatever he wanted.  Hmmm..I'll try the table, where I can order off of a menu.  I tried some Skip Jack, which was delicious.  As good as it was, I probably wouldn't eat it again because my research yielded that Skip Jack is high in mercury.  The cut eel was awesome, as it should be.  The ambiance was good, I didn't feel like I was in a 3-story Sunset strip mall.  I'll be back.

Good luck finding this place--it's hidden behind the Container Store.  My dad used to go to Old Towne Pub back when it was called the Loch Ness Monster.  Now I go there sometimes when I'm in Pasadena.  Watch for the bartender that tries to rip people off.  Also, try not to get jumped by the biker gangs that hang out here.  The outside is relaxed enough but the music scene inside is painful.  Never pay the cover.

I took a Charles Bukowski bus tour and he apparently went to King Eddy, which happens to be the last bar on the old skid row.

King Eddy always treats me like a king.  He serves me incredibly cheap booze (cash only so bring your wallet), cheap food (you can eat a 3 course meal for $5), and entertains me by heckling the other customers (after hearing "NO WAY, JOSE!!!" a guy who was about to enter quickly ran away).  By King Eddy, I mean the bartender there whose name I'm never sober enough to remember.  He's old, he has no charm, he has no class, but he has sass.

I've never received such enthusiastic service, especially on a day as busy as Valentine's.  The flowers were expertly picked out and beautifully arranged--impressive since I ordered them over the phone.  They were very well received and lasted quite a while.

I dig this place.  The avocado smoothie is delicious.  Go into the grocery section and check out the birds nest drink and the grass jelly drink.  The dehydrated anchovies are to die for.  The Nasi Goreng brings me back to Bali.  I bought some candle nuts here.  Anybody know what to do with them?

Check out the bar next door.  It's called Boardwalk and they have karaoke.  Check out The Vegan Joint across the street.  I've had positive experiences with their food and service.

If I could knock it down to 4 1/2 stars I would because of the credit card minimum.

Ben is the man.  If you're in or around South Pasadena and looking for not just an inexpensive barbershop haircut but also some personality then go to Ben's.

I like this barbershop.  Real people, realistic barbershop prices, and really good looking haircuts.

I LOVE this place.  Tons of choices, great quality Japanese food, quick lunches, close to my casa.  If you're making sushi tonight this should be your first stop.

IF YOU (OR ONE OF YOUR EATING MATES) ARE A VEGETARIAN OR VEGAN THEN I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT YOU DO NOT GO TO GUS'S BBQ.

I went to Gus's tonight with one Gus's semi-regular,  my vegan girlfriend, and two friends from out of town.  From previous experience, I know that Gus's carnivorous menu and staff are vegan-unfriendly so she picked up food for herself from Patakan (which I highly recommend), about a 2 min walk up Fair Oaks.  The waiter didn't complain when she proceeded to discretely eat it along with the glass of wine that she had ordered from Gus's while we ordered.

It wasn't until we had received drinks that we had ordered and were about to order food that the waiter loudly and rudely barked at my girlfriend, telling her that she could not eat outside food inside the restaurant.  This was unacceptable.  I put down the drink that I was about to sip and sent my semi-regular friend to the front to reason with the manager.  I had ordered the drink under false pretenses.  The manager (I don't know her name but she was described to me as a strawberry blonde female) could not be reasoned with so we brought our service to a finer South  Pasadena establishment.  I never touched my drink.

My parents and their friends are semi-regulars and regulars here and they won't be bringing me back here anytime soon.  I miss the old Gus's.

I like this place; tried it for the first time today.  They have a nice, covered outdoor area.  Try the chicken philly cheese sandwich.
