The Blue Plate is one fantastic eatery on the border of the Mission and Bernal Heights. I'm not a restaurant snob, I just like really good food served by really cool people, and the Blue Plate accomplishes both.

The meals are hearty and the sides are plentiful. I'm on a mission to find places who serve all the side meals I love, as this is what determines my main course often. Mac&Cheese, mashed potatoes, brussels sprout, etc.

I'll definitely be back to Blue Plate.

Before we talk about how good the cheese steaks are, and they are very good, this place pins the sports page to its side wall. it's like when you decide to get the skirt steak over a comparable entree, solely based on the side dish.  This is universal and can't be disputed.

Call ahead and order your steak: Especially during lunch hour. You can wait up to 15 minutes for a sandwich cuz there's a ton of traffic, so if you call ahead you'll avoid the waiting time. But if you don't, never fear as the aforementioned walled sports page gives you something to read while waiting.

Taste: If you've had a lot of cheese steaks, and I have, this one just tastes more hearty. I go to Philly for work a ton and get them there all the time, and I'd put this one up against anything  Philly has to offer. Keep in mind I am from Oregon though and not the East Coast.
