I love the food here!!

Like what Hawai'i is synonymous for...there is a lot of mom and pop restaurants with really really good food. This would be one of them.

They have a small parking lot in the back. Probably no more than 12 spots. Street parking is also available.

I am a fan because it's really good food and the service is "family-oriented." The people who come in and order are regulars. The waitresses know them and always talk story.

Anyhow let me get to the food. I love love the shrimp fried balls. It's pretty much shrimp wrapped in a ball of crunchy wonton chips. Dip it with a dash of spicy mustard and shoyu and my taste buds are at peace.  This would be one of my top favorites.

Or my other favorites:

+Salt and pepper porkchops
+Chinese Chicken salad
+Cake Noodle
+Black Mushroom with choy sum

I always order family style so there's variety but the BF said he used to when he was in school order two entrees of food and finish it by himself.

And everytime I come here I always tell myself not to eat so much that I cant even buckle my seat belt when I get in the car BUT that NEVER happens. I always end up eating so much that I feel like my stomach is going to explode. Ahh well I say "Carpe Diem" especially for great Chinese food!

WHOA big plate lunch portions!

Headed over after a day at Ehukai. Walk passed the sliding door and pick a drink or drinks BEFORE standing in line for the cash register to order your food. Wait outside until someone comes yelling out your name for your order.

Must of beat the rush because as soon as we finished ordering a swarm of people rushed into the store. All the tables were full and some had to share with others. I think we were there around 2-3PM. We managed to beat the rush.

Ordered the steak (medium rare of course) with onions and mushrooms. Wowzers! For a little over $13 bucks they give you two pieces of steak rice mac salad and your choice whatever pie. And of course I opted for the chocolate haupia pie. Really good pie!

The boyfriend ordered the loco moco and as was the steak it was pretty big. The bf finished every single piece. Had a taste and I thought it was pretty good too.

Overall good meal after a great and beautiful day at Ehukai. It was the cherry on top. Especially the haupia pie!

CASH ONLY

Mom and pop diner.
Lady waitresses were nice and polite. Always asked us if we needed more water or needed anything.

Had lunch with six other co workers. Ordered their small Oxtail soup for a little over $5 bucks with extra cilantro. Pretty good. Tasty broth. Soft meat that easily comes off the bone. Comes with a scoop of rice. Good portion for little ol' me to finish.

Turn around on food was quick. Myself and another co worker came 30 minutes late and so when we arrived everyone else had their food. We ordered. And got our dishes within the next 10 minutes - enough time for last two people to finish 1/2 of their dishes and not have the rest of the party wait too long for us two to finish our food.

No complaints.

First of all, let me start by saying, I've only tried two items thus far. And both items on one drinking night.

Went here after hitting up Genius bar with a co-worker and tried the butterfish and bbq chicken. I didn't really care for the bbq chicken, but my  taste buds fell in love withe the butterfish. Soft, a bit spicy, and melted in your mouth. I had one bite of the bbq chicken and never came back for more. I was hooked on the fish.

Service was alright. Nothing out of the ordinary. Gave us our water, food, and check without tailing our waitress or flagging her down.

It's open late. Can't really remember how much it was, but I buhhlieve it was about $15+ a plate. Kinda pricey.

I would still go back if I had any late night cravings, especially for the butterfish.

Really wanted to avoid the crowds at Ala Moana mall, especially with the upcoming 4th of July weekend, so I decided to finally check this place out. I always stare at it whenever I go to Phuket Thai or Ward, but never got myself to go until now.

Anyway, I wasn't expecting much and for some odd reason I could not get my brain together to make an outfit. I think the sales rep found my lost face, because she seriously helped me on two cute outfits in a matter of 10 minutes. I'm not swayed easily, but everything she threw my way was "right-on." I was only expecting to buy one thing for First Friday, but she worked her wonders and I bought three tops.

The pricing is pretty expensive compared to the mall, but then again I'm sure you won't find the same top on another girl going out. Welll, the chances are less likely than if I had bought a shirt at the mall, riiight?!

I plan to come back again. Hopefully the same sales rep will be there. She was awesome. Too bad i'm horrible with names.

Ehhh i guess this place is a hit or miss. You either love it or hate it?

Went with a group of six friends. Five of us tried the Okonomiyaki and sadly we all did not like it. Basically a fluffy pancake with your choice of meat, mochi, cheese, shrimp or whatever you want in it. The last friend tried the teppanyaki and he didn't like his steak either. Overcooked. Tasted like chewy rubber. Mind you that this guy loves teppanyaki, steak, and tried a lot of places that serve both or either.

Our cook wasn't very or at all enthusiastic. In fact, I think we tried to talk story and ask him how his night was. Don't worry we weren't obnoxious, loud, or drunk. Just trying to make casual talk.

In an effort to save the meal, we thought we just needed to order sprite to enhance the meal? I don't know how we came with that conclusion, but at least we tried to be optimistic! The waitress came back with tonic water. It was NO way in heck sprite. And when we confronted the waitress about it, nicely by the way, she came back saying that's how it's supposed to taste. Ughh, no lady. I think ALL SIX of us know the difference between watered down sprite and tonic water. We didn't argue and each of us took the hit for the $3.00 sprite!! Regardless of the sprite incident, the service was horrible. The waitress hardly came by to ask us if we're okay. Water was never refilled.  At one point we wanted sirachi sauce to add some spice to the okonomiyaki. After hunting her down, she says they don't carry sirachi. Oh come on?! Fail again. Although they had tabasco sauce and did absolutely nothing to the meal.

So with our quarter eaten pancakes and filled glasses of "sprite", we wanted out. The waitress could not be found AGAIN for another 10 minutes. Finally she comes by, probably thinking, "ohhh it's been a long time since I've been to that table, I guesssss I should go back and check..." and we ask for the bill. Ten minutes later pass and nothing. OH  please, does it take 10 minutes to print out the check? We finally get our check and it takes another 10-15 minutes to get the signature receipt and credit card back. You know how hard it is to get ONE credit card processed?!?!  that's why it took a full 10-15 minutes to get it back.

TO TOP OFF THIS WHOLE DINING EXPERIENCE, IT WAS NOT BUSY!! The six of us sat by our selves in the back. The other grill empty and most of the tables in the front of the restaurant were empty.

Needless to say, we're not coming back. I mean the okonomiyaki was their speciality so we do not dare to try anything else.

THEEE BEST MEAL I EVER HAD ON THE ISLAND.

Dinner reservations at 5:00PM - right when they open. The BF took me here for my birthday last week. I ordered the 5 course sampler meal with the 5 course wine pairing  while he ordered the pork belly and onaga. The BF knew our server so we got an extra meal. hehee.

I'd go in depth about everything but the 600+ reviews says enough.

Short and sweet - great service, SUPERB food, QUICK, and special.

Much mahalos BF for the greatest bday dinner.iluvya.

Tonkatsu Ginza Bairin

OH MAMA!

I have found my new favorite place to have tonkatsu. Stumbled into this place with the BF walking around Waiks with a mild headache from last night's festivities at the Villa.

We ordered the $36 tonkatsu and the special grilled Pork Chops. Each of our meals came with salad, miso soup, and rice. We savored each and every single bite of our food. The tonkatsu literally melts in your mouth. No, seriously! The porkchops were crispy. The miso was cooked to perfection. Not to mention, the miracle hot tea that cured our hang over instantly as we took a sip.

The place really looks and feels like you're dining in Japan. Nice tables and decorations. It probably can fit 30-35 people. The waitress was nice, polite, and ON-it! Water and tea refilled all the time. She constantly asked if we wanted anything or how we're doing.

It was a great dining experience! I haven't been able to stop thinking about that place and it's been one week already. I've told my co-workers and my room mates to check them out as well.

I wanna go back already and eat the entire menu! Including the late night sushi and sashimi. NOM, NOM, NOM.

This meal and experience has gotten me smiling like a little girl going to Disneyland for the first time ever!

Real cheap. Small Diner. Cash.

Received water as soon as we sat down. Not busy. Seems like an after surf session quick fix, seeing the BF mentioned the 3-4 guys that passed us just surfed at Keawalos.

Fifteen minutes later, food was served. A little bowl of mac salad, and pickled cabbage. I had the corn beef has with a side of fried rice and sunny side egg, while the BF had the loco moco.  Nothing to fancy - oyster sauce, green onions, and some luncheon meat. Even though, I really enjoyed the fried rice. The corn beef hash seemed right out of the can.

Anyhow, the whole meal for the both of us were under $15 bucks, including tax and tip.

The place certainly does have an old school feel, especially looking at their back-in-the-past cash register (the ones you would probably see from the black and white movies), and the jukebox playing old school Japanese songs.

We were in and we were out, fast. I would still come back, and try the saimen and the sandwiches!

Review for two lunch outtings with co-workers.

First visit at around lunch time, it was a co-worker and I. Nonetheless, we were nicely greeted by the hostess and walked to our table. We were seated and greeted by our waiter. Took down our drinks. Came back after another couple minutes and we ordered. My co-worker is a regular patron so he suggested I order the drunken noodles since I was not able to eat rice at that time, while he ordered the chicken curry. About 15 minutes later, our dishes were scrumptiously awaiting for one of us to take a bite. Digged in. LOVED both dishes! You could really taste the peanut in the panang curry. The shrimp drunken noodles were delish. At first I was skeptical considering I love to have beef on my noodles, but even at first bite, it was tasty.

One entree portion = good for one person.

Ordered:
Shrimp Drunken Noodles
Panang Chicken Curry

Besides these entrees, I have yet to try. Service was really on it - well considering both visits. Water was always filled. Made sure I knew the difference between sticky rice and regular rice. Tentatively asked how our meal was and if she can get anything else for us.

The place is a fairly sized restaurant, probably can fit about 100 people. Clean. Nicely decorated. Parking was not a hassle - another plus.

Overall, I cannot complain (:
