We went on a lark and had a terrific experience. Food was farm-to-table fantastic. Atmosphere romantic and cozy, especially for a chilly evening. Recommend sole, fried chicken (scrumptious), and dessert. The service was so good that the table near ours (regulars) just wanted whipped cream for dessert and they made them a special plate.

Mizu = peacefulness in a crazy world

Off of a NYC to SFO flight, the Mizu staff was able to squeeze me in for a mani/pedi, which I enjoyed so thoroughly that I made an appointment for a facial (anti-oxidant vitamin c facial).

That facial set the tone for the rest of my trip. It was incredible, gentle, relaxing, and my skin is still glowing.

The Mizu team is attentive, and the facility is beautiful (heated beds!). Importantly, the facility is spotless and pedicures are given outside of the traditional whirlpools that are notorious for bacteria.

I also recommend the lavender crush body polish and massage.

Lastly, you can expect professionalism, personalization, and a lot of care if you're modest or nervous about any of the treatments.

Thank you Mizu!

In a pinch & with just a few hours notice, Rob & team gladly accepted my pug pack (3 pugs) for a stay of 5 days. I cannot tell you how impressed I was to receive a video of my little guys settled in a few hours after leaving and updates over my trip on how they were doing.

One of my three pugs has some serious health issues with allergies. The staff was attentive, cleaning his ears, and wiping down his face daily. He looked better than when I take care of him.

Each of my little guys eats a raw diet, and the Unleashed team went through the trouble of slicing up and defrosting and preparing these special meals without charging me extra for the extra special care.

Dog owners can rest assured that their pups are in the best hands and enjoy their time away from home. It was like a summer camp for four-legged friends. I'm seriously not sure that Aslan, Lucy, and Paisley are happy to be back home.

Oh, and did I mention that they crashed? I wish I could upload photos here of Aslan on his back with all paws in the air, like he'd been running around Greenpoint or working or something:P

Thank you Rob, Bea, and Unleashed staff. You took care of my most special family members, and you did it with the love I would have.

Pugs Hugs!
CB

Honest, instructive, helpful service. Discovered these guys through YELP and swear by them now. Replaced my radiator, thermostat, and oil change for just under $500 and in less than 3 hours. (I own a 13 year-old Corolla).

Five Guys Famous Burgers & Fries

A Virginia import, 5 Guys is a NYC keeper. Who knew such wonderful stuff could come from Virgina? (my hometown!) And, not that I'm biased, but any restaurant that keeps Cherry Coke on the fountain tap is usually "up there" anyway in my book.

Burgers are made to order and hand-packed lightly, so the burger itself is taller, rather than wider. This might sound strange, but it makes the final experience far more delicious, because of the way the meat cooks with this well-practiced shaping technique

Fries are only more delicious with malt vinegar and a 5 Guys rule of service, ensures that you get an extra scoopful of fries inside your greasy paper bag.

If you're dieting, let your friends order the fries and steal a few of the extras, and order the jr. burger (sans bacon!).

I wish there were one of these in every NY neighborhood.

Shake Shack

If you work in Gramercy or close by and are having a "bad work day" take your sorry self over to Shake Shack and wait for an hour and order a caramel shake (or whatever your pleasure) and sit in the sun-filled park, watch the crazies and the dogs alike, and sip your shake until you shiver (welcome the brain freeze you deserve it). Return to work a much happier/heavier you!

Delicious stuff, great vibe, good product, but the burgers are NOT made to order (contrary to popular myth).

Fries are a bit like the ones you had in public school - if Danny would swap em' out to curly fries I'd give a 5-star rating and I'd be about a gazillion pounds.

McGorlick Dog Park is located at the south end of the charming park. Small and large dogs share the space equally and both have abundant room to run and stretch their furry legs.

Every first Saturday of the month, a smushed-face dog meetup for pugs, Boston terriers, French bulldogs, and bulldogs fills the part with sniffles and snorts for about an hour between 10-11am. Most other days you'll find no less than 10 pooches and their owners laughing getting to know one another.

Greenpoint, in general, is charming, but the dog park creates a special community within the community.

$3 for a homemade jelly donut! Yikes and yikes! Especially, because I can't just have one, so $6 later I'm full of pastry and contemplating how long my pocketbook and jeans can withstand my habit.

Another Danny Meyer's expat, pastry chef extraordinnare, Emily Issac, practices farm-to-table baking. All her ingredients are as local as possible and made with a dash of whimsy and a lot of attention to detail (her Oscar-themed cookies were adorable).

Almost everything is a hit, but the cupcakes. Cupcakes are tough to begin with, but lately Issac's cupcakes are too brown (almost burned) and with the exception of the red velvet - the icing is dull and uninspiring.

A cupcake should be addictive - like her donuts!

And, in times of recession, even Park Slopers need a little "relief" - how about a more affordable line of products?

When faced with the choice of spending no less than $200 for a Manhatttan cut or $53 for a Brooklyn cut in an equally adorable salon Le Chandelier is the right choice!

Janelle, my stylist, takes me seriously when I say, "Anything you like, as long as you think it will look great." Each time I visit I leave feeling way happier and more beautiful than when I arrived. If only Tim Gunn would stop by and discover her!

The salon both uses and sells Davines products. No credit cards accepts, so bring along that dusty checkbook or a handful of cash.

Franny's

If you appreciate the wonderful service that characterizes the Danny Meyer's empire, you'll feel a kindred spirit in chef-owner Andrew Feinberg's approach at Franny's. Feinberg was a line-cook at Gramercy Tavern once upon a time.

The food is tremendous, but so is the wait, especially on weekend nights. You'll find yourself hungry and irritable protecting your calves and shins from the strollermaina spillover from Park Slope.

The small plates are best ordered and shared with 4 or more people, so you can taste a ton! As soon as you're seated order the cured meats to whet your palate and sample something cured inside the house, and I recommend the blood orange & onion salad (seasonal).

The space leaves much to be desired, especially because it's quite noisy, but if you can handle saying "what?" about a 100 times to your companions and focus on the delicious meal in front of you, you're in for a tasty treat!
