Very sad to report that this establishment is closed. Kitchen cleared out, tables and chairs gone... just a sign on the door:
Closed
Thank you for your patronage -

If you are turned off by the reviews that point how the slow breakfast service when the line is out the door.... Well... go for dinner!!
Good old fashioned home cooking with made from scratch soups and a macaroni and cheese that is to die for!! Don't pay $11 at Zephyr... come here and enjoy a better bowl of gooey goodness. Could be ordered as an appetizer if you have a party for 4... but the cup of chili is also a great way to start as well.
Yes, the staff is young, but we have always found them chipper, helpful, and always willing to make great suggestions.

Golden China Buffet
Categories: Sushi Bars, Buffets, Chinese
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Denny's ran a buffet? Now you have the answer as this is the rebirth of the "other" Auburn Denny's location as an "American, Italian & Japanese BBQ Delicacies" buffet.
What used to be a breakfast counter is now a friendly sushi chef. What was once the first dining room you saw when walking through the front door is now an oasis of steam tables.... 5 of them in all.
From back to front:
Dessert table - tasteless cakes with good frosting, apple turnovers, and what looked like cannoli, but were so popular we didn't manage to snag any.
We didn't see any Italian, but there were chicken fingers, mashed potato & gravy on the second of 5 buffet tables along with several soup options and 3 metal round steamers. There were shu mai and a lotus leaf packet, but no pot sticker. The wontons stuck to the steamer but the broth was great. The cheese oysters seemed to be popular with many people walking around with long strands of mozzarella hanging from their plates :-)
One entree table featured generous trays of lo mien and several fried chicken and shrimp options including "snow shrimp" (coconut milk / mayo sauce) and general tso.
The next table had beef and broccoli, sesame balls, sauteed green beans and the ever popular steamed crab legs. The staff was very attentive and made sure that a constant flow of crab made it's way to the growing crowd.
Closest to the door is the cold salad and puddling table.... it looked rather mass market (yes, the rest was American Chinese bland, but Cozy Shack pudding to me is REALLY mass market) so we didn't try any this visit.
There were kinks in the service that need to get ironed out... but for $9.95 for crab legs and sesame balls I will be happy to return another day :-)!

DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR PHONE NUMBER!!!
I just got an automated phone call "offering" me the chance to opt in to "special offers" if I call an 888 number.
I never "opted in" for this call... sigh...

Pickup Review: Receptionist couldn't find my glasses until I mentioned the District Manager called me to say they were there.
The technician was fine. The refund was handled with ease. The sunglasses are fine.
The bifocals will do... Yes, they are without line, but the blend between perscriptions is horrid... and I can't read fine print with the new bifocal perscription either.
Given the drive through exam I am not suprised, and I have no confidence that it would get better with a second pass through the car wash approach.
I appreciate that their customer service reads these reviews and that the management cares. I hope that they become more upfront and see their customers as patients not just $$$.
If the reviews trend upward I will consider them again. -

1st Attempt at Pickup:
I was in the area (and in the 7 to 10 day window) so I stopped by to see if my glasses were done at about 2 PM on a sunny 1st of July.
No glasses... "we'll give you a courtesy call when they come in."
When I got home there was a message from the District Manager of ABC&E. She was very apologetic and is giving me a generous discount on my purchase. Oh... and my glasses are ready for pick up.
Time stamp of the message... 11:35 AM
Sigh... will be trying again today (calender day 10). -

Don't expect to be told the true price from the receptionist. Having read the reviews, and played the technician game at many other places around the country, I thought I would be one step ahead and ask the receptionist what the 'extras' cost.
We don't have a price list that you can review before ordering. You have to have a technician walk you through the process.
How much for progressive bifocals? The ones with no lines?
$80
OK... not bad... I'll take an appointment and give this a try.
The exam was VERY fast... I didn't even realize that the doctor didn't set up both eyes with the new prescription and ask me to read something.
I had already picked out a frame from the cheapest rack... but it was a half frame. That would be $210 extra for no line bifocals.
What about the $80 charge?
Oh no... the cheapest would be $99 for 1 pair of lines bifocals and 1 pair without bifocals.
Sigh...
I over heard a mother and son get a 15 minute pitch on the anti scratch coating. They said no 11 times while I was trying to find a pair of full frames that wasn't soooooo thick. And after they walked out I got to learn about the child support payment problems 2 of the 3 technicians were having.... I had to rip another star in half and use them as ear plugs to keep going.
How much to make the second pair full sunglasses....
wait for it...
"I'd have to ring it up in the computer and then tell you"
nope... $329 was my final limit.
7 to 10 days from now I may update this review with the outcome of the pick up visit.... or I may leave it be a mystery... if there is a way to get through the exam and selection process honestly I sure couldn't figure it out!

This drive through is just our of reach for me so I have to take my seat belt off to reach the keys.
The turn around the building is VERY sharp and comes out less than 5 feet from the Kent Kangley entrance... very bad design!
I packed up the puppies and decided to hit the road to beat the afternoon heat and this was a great drive through option!
I foolishly skipped on the cheap iced latte thinking that I would share the wealth with one of the small drive through stands down the road... only to find out they had closed due to the heat... but I digress...
The burger comes with a choice of 2 kinds of fries, potato salad or cottage cheese! What better creamy way to beat the heat than iced cold cottage cheese!!
The burger broke down like this:
Bun - Franz commercial toasted on a grill
Meat - Thin large patty well cooked but not much char
Veggies - cold iceburg, tomato, onion, dill pickle slices AND sweet pickle relish.
Cheese - Lots of tangy cheddar.
cost - $8.75 - well worth it!

How many places can you order a BJ online for $10 at 10:30 PM? BJ Burger that is :-)!
The car side service ends at 9 PM, but the helpful takeout staff did a great job of packaging everything by my special requests (entered online). Since this is a 30 min drive from home I asked for the burger and dressings to be segregated and it worked out great!
Hubby had the sourdough cheddar bacon cheese burger. The patty is VERY large, tasty with good char. The bread is better than Jack in the Box, but the same sourdough toast problem... juicy burger + soft bread = race to the sog!
Wedge salad came with a nice blue cheese dressing, lots of back crumbles, diced tomato chunks, red onion slivers and blue cheese crumbles.
The meatloaf dinner is HUGE... easily 3 meals worth of meat slices and mounding mashed potato goodness.
Can't wait to try them in person text time!
If you have never been, this location is next to strip mall heaven so if you want to stop by and see how the dooughnuts are made you won't be lacking for heartier fare.
