Cambodian Noodles House

Just drove by today and realized a new Cambodian Noodle restaurant just opened. I was on the way for Vietnamese pho but switched it up instead.
I must say, this place is really nice. From the decor to the great customer service.
I got the number 9, which is the Phnom Penh noodles. Pretty good but The soup needs adjusting. Good amount of noodles. Needs more meat to balance the meat/noodles ratio.
Iced coffee is just right. Strong and bold.
I'm reviewing this as I'm eating so it's a little short, I'll update a little more later.

Basically, I'm glad there's a new Cambodian joint in Oakland. Definitely a support of good food, so I'll be back. Also there's a cutie that works here, real nice and helpful. I can see this place do good, it just needs a little time.

Saigon Seafood Harbor Restaurant

2 1/2 stars? Seriously folks? Are you SERIOUS-LY?

i gave it 4 stars but im bumping it up to 5, just because.

i think folks in the bay area are spoiled. we should be extra grateful for a restaurant like this. it feels like a little piece of hong kong in our own backyard.

i came for dim sum with a couple of heads. there were a few groups ahead of us but we passed them right up with a smaller party.

east bay saigon seafood harbor is my kind of place. it stands out compared to the other dim sum restaurants ive been to. they have their own duck/ poultry/ meat section and the seafood tanks nicely displayed. and you gotta love the chinese ladies with their pushcarts blurting out dim sum dishes.

the food was delicious. fresh and tasty, tasty and fresh. we only had the dim sum and it was very fulfilling. i cant wait for the next visit. definitely coming for dinner and trying out the seafoods and such. the price is a little more than your average chinese joint. but it doesnt matter to me, great food doesnt have a price tag in my book.

couldnt complain about the service at all. they were really busy but attentive and helpful. ive notice alot of people ordering the huge claypot with noodles in it. not sure what its called but it looks like a popular dish.

Basically, the only downfall would be the size of the venue. it could be a little bigger but overall it was a great experience. also, parking gets pretty packed.

The Best Dim Sum & Pastry

i take back all the good stuff i said about this place.

"THE WORST DIM SUM & PASTRY"

dont bother coming here if you're ever in oakland. just keep driving.

usually, i dont mind bad service or rude people when im about to eat because thats when im in a good mood. but these last few visits were over the top.

one thing i cant stand is chinese folks jumping in front of me and ordering first. i think its a chinese thing, because i dont see anyone else ever doing it. and the cashier ladies just ignore you like you were never in front of the line.

the food isnt even that great. actually, its not even good. just your ordinary greasy chinese food cooked with no love.

Basically, F*&% this place! F&*$ everyone here. Wheres the Health Department at? This place is disgusting inside and out.

I agree 100% with the Title of the joint. They are (THE BEST) in my book. From the Dim Sum Items to the Pastries.

I usually get a little bit of everything everytime I visit the spot. You name it, they got it.
They have chicken feet, chow fun, chow mein, fried rice, porridge, pork buns, curry, ha gows, shrimp dumplings, tripes, and many many more. They also have every chinese pastries you can think of. Im not sure of the names of some of them but the cocktail pastry buns with the coconut inside, the bun with the hot dog/ egg, and the baked bun with mung bean inside. Everything is HIT STATUS here.
They have The Best EGG CUSTARDS in the Bay! (Much.... Much...Flakier than any other)

Cant go wrong here, ONLY RIGHT.

Basically, its a one stop shop for all your chinese goodies. Parkings a bitch, so just make up your own.

Trung Nam Bun Bo Hue

my first visit here at Trung Nam was very pleasant. i enjoyed it very much.

I wasnt a fan of bun bo hue to begin with and i wasnt even hungry. so i already had doubts about the place.
but as the saying goes, dont judge a book by its cover. not saying the cover was ugly. this place was beautiful by far. the ambiance and decor was outstanding.

from the first bite of the noodles and soup, my whole perspective changed. the bun bo hue became best friends with my tastebuds and are now keeping in touch. looking forward to future visits already.  i might be one of the biggest fans of bun bo hue now.

the service was great. friendly and very attentive, in a good way of course.

welcome to oakland, Trung Nam Bun Bo Hue and enjoy your stay.

Basically, come one, come all. you wont regret it. I went from an anti-bun-bo-hue dude to the number one fan.

they might as well post up a sign in front that reads. "We dont serve your kind"

my entourage of 5 and i were basically the only ones in the restaurant on a saturday brunch.

so it took the waitress about 30 minutes just to give us menus, than another 30 minutes to place the order, than an hour to get our food, than another 30 minutes to get the bill, than another 30 minutes for her to collect the bill. no exaggerating. we asked for assistance a couple handful of times but was rudely ignored. and for what reason? no one knows.

might be the worst service ive ever had. she didnt even want to collect the tab.

Basically, we were Unwanted here and step into the wrong restaurant.
First and Last visit.

oh and the wontons/ dumplings were pretty good. but the service out weighed it all.

ONE STAR.

La Torta Loca No 1

Too much SAND and not enough WICH.
Too much TOR and not enough TA.
Too much BREAD and not enough MEAT.

For the damage of $6.50 per Torta,
A.) Id expect it to be at least one of the best in town.
B.) Or at least come with fries
C.) Or at least come with a drink.
but nope, i got
D.) NONE OF THE ABOVE

Almost every Taco Truck in Oakland has tortas for around $4.00 and they taste decent. For 6.50, i expected better.
Yes, the size of the torta is huge but the bread and meat ratio doesnt balance out at all. its a 5 for the bread and 1 for the meat which is a No-Can-Do in my book.
I really wanted to like this place but thats the way the cookie crumbles.

Basically,
The only thing loco about La Torta Loca is the "Dude". The dude and his unexplained 50 war weapons showcased in the front display.

Wing Town!
Welcome to Oakland and enjoy your stay. I hope we become great friends because you'll definitely be seeing a lot of me.

Great place to eat. i was impressed. Very clean, Real Legit and De-licious!
My definition of the word Legit is being real professional about everything.  Not cutting corners, from hiring and training great employees to the ambiance and organizing of the joint. Nice touch with the IKEA pieces.

I know for a fact, this joint is going to get packed when word spreads. ESPECIALLY on the 1st of every month. Make a note of that.

My entourage and I ordered the 50 piece meal, which came out real cheap compared to that ridiculous place called wingstop aka WEAKSTOP.
Yes, you heard it right. I Hate wingstop. I Hate it with a passion. i cant stand dried burnt shrunken disgusting wings from wingstop. F*&# you wingstop and your 14 minute wait for wings!

Alright, enough with that. I apologize, I had to let it be known.

So back to Wing Town, A great place to check out.
The wait wasnt bad at all. The meal comes with 3 lrg sides and a 32oz drink. we doubled up on the fries, one potato salad, and for the beverage, we chose coke cola.
We tried the Signature flavor "OOH WEE", which was mighty tasty. it was like bbq sauce but at the same time, not really. I definitely recommend it. the Lemon Pepper was great, real strong bold taste. it has a nice punch from the lemon juice. And we also tasted the Honey BBQ. not much of a fan of this flavor in general but it tasted good here.

So Basically, dont get it twisted, this isnt the nasty stuff from pizza hut called wing street or that nasty disgusting wingstop.
Wing Town is Great. The size of the wings are big, plump, and juicy. its half the price of wingstop(Weakstop) and its located on High St, which can be easily exited off of the 580 or 880 freeway. Parking is plentiful. Just watch out for a few crackheads here and there.

I do love the taste of a good burger. Mm-mm-mm.
You know what they call a Quarter Pounder with cheese in France?
A Royale with cheese.
A Royale with cheese! You know why they call it that?
You guessed it, Because of the metric system.

Alright, enough with that.
On with True Burger, one of the better burger joints in Oakland. I love the toasted egg buns and how they bake it daily. A burger is a burger overall but when you bake your own bread, it stands out in my book. Comforting food made fresh to order, real tasty and well made.
The menu is simple and easy. you got your burgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, fries, salads, and drinks.

Location and venue is outstanding. you can either enjoy your food in the restaurant or take a stroll through Lake Merritt to enjoy your food and views of downtown Oakland.

I ordered the Cheesy True Burger and Chili Cheese Fries. Basically, a cheese burger and animal fries. All were very delicious and fresh. The price is not bad at all, you get what you pay for which is quality simple food thats tasty. couldn't complain with the service at all, welcoming smiles all around.

Basically, you can call me a fan of True Burger. if they had tee shirts, caps, or even a head band. id wear it proudly, just like your local mailman with their uniforms. Im sure glad True Burger is apart of Oakland, CA.

Nick's Crispy Tacos

Nicks Crispy Tacos just might be my favorite spot for the famous crispy fish taco. I came here with a few buddies on a Tuesday and it wasnt anything close to what i expected. the line was out the door and the place was jam packed. this place was crackin'..

Nicks is basically a small portion of the venue in the corner. it shares the same venue with the lounge/ nightclub Rouge. this place was huge but with barely any room to walk.

We ordered a bunch of tacos and nachos. The other tacos were ok but  the most favored is definitely the fish. and these tacos arent your ordinary small tacos. they were some big boys in my opinion. two will do you good, but one is just perfect.

i agree with some of the yelpers with the price but personally, i think its worth it. its pretty damn good.  and luckily we came on a tuesday because it was $2 tacos for all except the fish taco! the fish taco was $4.95 plus .95 cents to make it "Nicks Way"

Basically, Nicks is the place to be at, especially on a Tuesday! Cheers to beer and fish tacos.

Jamaica Place

What a BIG Disappointment. There goes the neighborhood!
Another negative review, i hate to do it but im just keepin' it Real.

Ive had my share of good Caribbean cuisines but this "Jamaica Place" doesn't cut it. If youre a first timer and curious about Jamaican food, I dont recommend it here. hop on the dumbarton towards menlo park to a place called back-a-yard caribbean. well worth your bucks'

Ive had good caribbean ox tail before so I decided to try it here. i ordered the dinner meal and a beef meat pie. it comes with red beans and rice with some greens on the side. all came out to be around 13.99 with no drink.
Dont get me wrong, It was a good amount of food but the taste. That taste was coming from a totally different direction. it was a head on collision with my taste buds and all was totaled with no insurance which led to this bad review.

the oxtail and its sauce tasted like mud. yes, i said it. Mud!
youre asking, how do i know what mud taste like? oh ive tasted mud in my younger years on the playgrounds and such. Im usually not one to describe food like this but im just telling you how i see it.

i took a few bites and couldnt go on. noticed i said, a few bites not just one. the beef meat pie was on the same boat, stale cookie crust with slurry beef that was piping hot inside. i cashed out 13.99 and called it a lost. i didnt even have a drink to wash out the nasty taste from my mouth because it didnt come with the meal!

basically, all im saying is make good quality food and people will come back. i myself, personally will be keeping my distance.
