The atmosphere is cool, lots of clean lines and good art, the bar is a little more divey looking.
I LOVE the Jap-chea and shabu shabu and I always have enough to eat. The beer and Saki list is long and full of Asian and American goodies.
This is a GREAT PLACE FOR A DATE or for a BIG GROUP. If you want to sit and chat over candle light try a window seat in the front room, or hey, there's one at the bar too.
If you need to accommodate a big group, that's cool too, they've got a long row of shabu shabu tables. If you call ahead then you can have your whole group together and the shabu shabu really doesn't come out to be that much when you're sharing.
So a few tips: you can always ask for more sides and the ice cream there is AMAZING, so many exotic flavors and the taste is just to die for.
My only suggestion when you're going to Dokebi is be ready for something different, this is not an average place, it's a nice little mix of what you've had and what you'd like to.

I've only been here for breakfast a few times and I have just two things to say:
The Eggs Benedict would be AMAZING if they weren't served cold half the time and it would be great if you could actually have coffee and your meal at the same time.
I have a real problem when there are two waitresses in such a small restaurant and NO ONE has what they need. I sometimes feel like I'm in a 3rd grade class room when I'm there because you see tons of people raising their hands to get the attention of the two chatty waitresses at the bar. It doesn't matter what it is, a coffee refill, your bill, the meal you ordered that they forgot. It's simply insane.
Wouldn't you think these girls would want to turn their table quickly to get the most money they could out of Saturday or Sunday Brunch?
Maybe I'm just hung over when I go, but that always seems to irritate the shit out of me.
Ok, that was more than two things to say.

eat for like a Buck!
This little American Hofbrau joint on the corner of Taraval and 21st ave is like stepping into another world, one FULL OF MEAT. Roast beef, turkey legs, roast chicken (whole, 1/2, 1/4), ribs, corned beef... I personally love meat, but if you don't I'd suggest going elsewhere.
I recently went in search of soft foods after some oral surgery and was delighted to find yummy REAL mashed taters and gravy as well as a lovely rice pudding dusted (more like coated) with cinnamon.
I must say I was a little intimidated when I walked in the door and was greeted by a large Slavic man behind a massive spread of hot meat. (that kind of sounds like I'm setting the stage for a porn scene)
Luckily the man was extremely nice in a customer service oriented kind of way, he didn't want to be my friend, but he was willing to give me a container of gravy free of charge so my taters didn't get soggy and i got more of both.
The cashier girl was a friendly blur and not too interested in small talk, which was fine by me, as I had a face stuffed w gauze.
I didn't stay to eat cause i live right up the street but the dining area is massive and totally full of people over 50.
The food tasted close to homemade in a salty, not good for you kind of
way, which is OK by me. I'm looking forward to when I can chew so I can taste their meat.
So...until I can chew...3 stars

BUT:
I always have a good time, there's just about any kind of person you'd want to meet, they have a wonderful outside area, porta pottys for those emergency pees & the Burgers do in fact rock your ass off (in a good way).
Non-smokers beware that the smokers come out of the woodwork here and smokers beware that the "non-smokers" will totally bum from you after about an hour of sitting around in your cloud.
those are the breaks, kids.
