Christina (Chrissy?) was our server and was very sweet and knowledgable about the selections, and made some great reccomendations. It seemed as if she knew every other person in the place, and that almost everyone was somewhat of a regular.
I'm really looking forward to coming back here and trying some of their other options!

BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse

If you enjoy going to places where you have to ask for things constantly, you will love BJ's. I only had tea, so I can't speak for the food, but our server was non-existent, and at one point blatantly ignored my co-worker when she asked for ice tea - like, made eye contact and walked away ignored.
I'm only giving this place two stars because it looks like they do have an amazing selection of beer.
But, if you want beer and sports, go to the Mayflower!!

We had reservations at 6:00 so we could have an early dinner before going to Cirque du Soleli. Walked in (we were the first people in) and were seated promptly. The hostess and our server, Dan, were very nice and attentive our entire meal, even after the place filled up.
Let me just say, this restaurant is a vegan's haven. I was so psyched that were so many vegan choices! I started with the parsnip soup, and the fiancee started with scallops. My parsnip soup was so flavorful, so creamy, I felt like pulling a Fabio in the "I can't believe it's not butter" commercials and joyfully yelling, "I can't believe this is vegan!" The fiancee really enjoyed his scallops, and both were served in a visually pleasant way.
Entrees: I had the Saha vegan red curry, and he had the duck. My curry had so many different flavors and textures that it would have been easy to get overwhelmed, but it worked well. The serving was also pretty massive. The fiancee really enjoyed his duck, and especially like the sweet potato puree that came with it.
Dessert - Wish we would have gone with the warm chocolate cake. We got the Bisbusa with lemon sorbet. It was good, but not great.
Tab was $100 plus tip, which was a little high, I suppose. We each had one glass of wine and one cup of coffee, plus our food.
I would definitely come here again...I'm really excited to try more of the vegan dishes!!
While my soon to be sister in law has flawless taste and spares no expense, she really outdid herself by hiring The Pantry to cater to gathering.
Among the delights that were offered were fresh made hummus paired with veggies that tasted like they had been harvested by the hand of a divine being, a spring salad with roasted apples, candied walnuts and light vinaigrette dressing that made me want to eat the whole bowl, and wide variety of luscious looking meats and crab dishes (since I'm a veggie, I obviously did not partake, but they still looked darn good).
Desserts, you ask? Ummm....wow. Between one of my other soon-to-be sister in-laws, I think we ate our weight in these fabulous little caramel pecan squares - absolutely delightful.
The Pantry - please come to San Francisco!!!!!

As soon as we walked in, I immediately felt calm yet sexy all at once. Maybe it's the lighting, the feel of the restaurant, but it does something to you. As soon as we sat down in our booth, we were treated like royalty. Everything was ridiculously well executed.
The food was mind blowing, never had (and possibly never will) have better food. I'm not going to bother to even try to describe it. You can't describe it. You just have to try it.
Gary Danko, if I wasn't newly engaged, you would be the love of my life!
Had a reservation for 7, and the place was PACKED. Like, sardines in a can had more room than the patrons waiting at the bar. The bar and restaurant look like an authentic Left Bank restaurant, with the energy to match. We were seated relatively quickly, which, in retrospect, was pretty amazing since it was so crowded.
On to the food: the menu is your typical French bistro fair. There is also a fairly decent wine list, heavy on Rhone Valley wines, to compliment the dishes. Word of caution: There are very few vegetarian options (forget about vegan options) so I had to get a little creative. Ended up having rice pilaf and green beans for main course.)
Anyways, everyone was very impressed with the quality and flavor of their respective dishes. While we all agreed we would come here again, the one thing that was lacking a bit was the service. I completely understand they were busy, and perhaps our server has just started working at the restaurant. BUT, we all couldn't help but notice that other servers were always in eye view, and the nearby tables always had the water refreshed. Our server seemed to be hiding, so we had to ask numerous times for water, and the like. Again, they were busy, but it was a little frustrating after a while.
Ahhh, Petite Louis.....I'm sure I will visit you again some time when we are back on the East Coast - and hopefully when it is not insanely busy!

The atmosphere is welcoming and social - like you're being welcomed into a close friend's home for evening of fantastic food, wine and ambiance. Our server, Michael, was very attentive without being overly so. But, on to the most important:
We both got the prix fix menu (LOVE that more and more restaurants are doing this now!) I got the pear and pomegranate salad to start - very good but a pretty huge portion for a starter salad. The boyfriend got the oysters, which he said were amazing.
Next course - I got the vegan pumpkin risotto. Umm, WOW. Amazing creamy, and the pumpkin flavor was present, but not overpowering. Again, a huge portion. Boyfriend got the sea bass, and his plate was polished in 10 minutes flat.
Dessert: Banana torte and orange cheesecake. Simply amazing, without being heavy.
Now, we loved everything about this restaurant. The food was fabulous, as well as the ambiance. My only reservation with the establishment was the bathroom. (I'm kind of a stickler about bathrooms. I feel that the cleanliness of a bathroom represents the cleanliness of the establishment as a whole). Bathroom was not the cleanest, and it was a one bathroom for the entire restaurant kind-of-deal.
Other than that, I'm looking forward to going back soon for another great meal!!!

Margaritas - very good. The flavor is well-balanced, and they are not overloaded with sweet and sour mixture. A good solid "B+" for the margaritas.
Food - eh. I've had better. also, what Mexican restaurant in MARIN doesn't have black beans?? Goodness knows no one in this county voluntarily eats re fried beans. But I digress. The food is pretty standard, cookie-cutter Mexican. Not bad, not fabulous. The atmosphere of the restaurant is good, though.
final verdict: I don't think I would actively seek out to eat here again. If friends wanted to go, I wouldn't object. But there are other Mexican places I would much rather go to.
Really. what more could you want from your local Mexican restaurant? The food is fresh, well-porportioned, and simply jumping with flavor. Not the flavor of salt, but the flavor of the actual food (especially the veggies.) The Black Gold salsa is so good, my boyfriend and I literally fight each other for the container at home.
I'll admit, I like Marinitas (new mexican rest. right down the street from TJ's). The margaritas they serve are great. The food is good too, but it's a "posh" Mexican restaurant. For simple, flavorful and authentic Mexican food, go to Taco Janes!!
PS - the owner, Mateo, and one of the servers, Paulina, are incredibly nice.

The servers are always great, food is consistent, and it's a much more laid back welcoming atmosphere compared to Marin Brewing Co. I love that you can see a family at one table, "mature adults" at the next table and college students mingling throughout - all in perfect harmony. So, go have a great glass of pilsner, some yummie veggie egg rolls and a veggie burger - its awesome!
