Tasty pizza, friendly locals, HOT bartender. Woo woo Jessica!

Fun place to have a drink and some food on a cold night. If I lived in Strongsville, I'd be a regular.

Surati Farsan Mart

Surati Farsan is a complete gem. We call it our "Indian snack food" place, even though they offer full meals. It is 100% vegetarian, but they have so many hearty dishes it's hard to complain about the lack of meat.

The menu can be a little intimidating, but there are always staff members and other patrons on hand to direct you. My husband and I pick up take-out from here at least once every couple weeks, and we seem to repeat the following items:

-Cheese dosa (like an Indian quesadilla...so good.)
-Chole samosa: spicy hearty chickpeas with two deep fried triangle pockets (samosas)
-Petish (little fried balls stuffed with cilantro. These are amazing.)
-Curry of the day. (It's always good, just trust me and order it.)

Additionally, there are many sweets to choose from and you purchase them by the pound. Forgive me that I don't know the names of any of them, but I always pick a few to bring home and despite sometimes just blindly pointing and choosing, I've never had one I didn't like. There is one that has a milk base with pistachios that has a unique and delicious flavor, and another that is coiled like a snake and the color of honey...similar to a Persian dessert called "zoolbia", it is syrupy and crunchy and amazing.

Surati is great, I love love this place.

I shop here because it's close to my house. The pharmacy is pretty inefficient, they keep you waiting for entirely too long when there is no line. The bathrooms smell worse than truck-stop bathrooms, do not use unless absolutely necessary.

I hate that there are only self-checkouts now and they completely eliminated cashiers. Even when my shopping list is 100% kiddie approved, alcohol-less, etc, somehow I always set off the "age restricted item" alert and then I have to sit there waiting for a manager to approve it.

Update - 1/24/2012 1 Check-in Here
Since the owner took the time to respond back about the price I had mentioned, I would like to update my review so I can maintain accuracy.

I had said my burger was $6.50, but the owner pointed out burgers start at $2.95. So, let's say it was $2.95, and we added avocado (and cheese) for $1 each. With CA sales tax, that brings the total to $5.35.

He also mentioned that the DOUBLE-charburger has "over 1/3 pound of fresh beef." Well, we ordered the single burger, so I guess no wonder I was still hungry after splitting one? If I do wind up at the Habit again, I will be sure to order my own.

The Habit burger was pretty small compared to other restaurants that offer burgers in the same price range. My husband and I split one, thinking it would be a lot of food, but after we ate I seriously considered stopping by Fuddruckers for another burger because I was still hungry.

In my opinion, the burger itself tasted like a Carl's Jr. Famous Star with cheese, but was $6.50 vs .99 cents. We added avocado to it, and the avocado didn't appear to by ripe or add much taste to the burger. The onion rings were fine, nothing to complain about but also not very memorable.

The restaurant was clean, and had a nice patio area. The staff were very nice, and made a few suggestions since it was our first time.

With so many options for burgers in San Diego, I probably won't be back.    Show owner comment »

We wound up at Fig Tree Cafe on MLK Day, after trying to go to Snooze and realizing the line was 1 hour 30 minutes! No thank you. Good thing Fig Tree was right around the corner.

Super cute interior, dark wood tables and very cozy atmosphere. We were immediatrely greeted by our server, and handed menus that had a plethora of options. I wound up ordering a southwestern scramble, AND I got their Butter-Pecan coffeecake to share with my 2 friends. Holy cow. Everything was delicious and the portions were generous. Our server was friendly and attentive, but didn't hover.
Price-wise Fig Tree is pretty comparable to any breakfast/brunch place in Hillcrest, between $6-14 per plate depending on what you are ordering.

We really liked it, and will definitely be back soon.

XDI Ultrasound

My husband and I were dying to find out the gender of our baby, and I mentioned that to a girlfriend of mine who referred me to XDI 4-D Ultrasound. I looked at their website and noticed they have a $99 dollar "Sneak Peek" package. At 14 weeks, they can tell you the gender of your baby, which is about 6 weeks earlier than my normal ultrasound technician could commit to. In fact, we had our XDI Ultrasound exactly one day after our normal one, and when I begged our technician "Please please can you tell us what we are having?" she said "no it's too early" but in my mind I thought "Hmm, well we'll see about that" because my XDI Ultrasound appointment was the next day.

Fast forward a whole 24 hours later...we arrived at XDI Ultrasound, which is the cutest little business located on Adams Ave near Park in a building that looks like a little house. We were greeted and told Sergio would be right with us.

Since we opted for the $99 Sneak Peek package, we got about a 15 minute appointment, where we got to see both 2-D and 4-D ultrasounds of our little one. Sergio is AWESOME and talked us through everything, from measuring the neck and weight to pointing out the little teeny tiny limbs. Sure enough, about halfway through the appointment, he was able to point out that we are having a BOY. He records the whole appointment on a dvd that you get to keep, including the audio recording of hearing the announcement of your baby's gender. To replay it and hear the joy in our voices has been amazing, and I am so glad we did this.

The 4-D part is more useful to parents who are near their due date, since babies don't really look like babies at 14-weeks. They look more like raptors, or aliens or balls of mush. Still, I am happy to have photos of the early stages of our little alien. :) We decided we are definitely going back between 35-38 weeks so we can get some really good pictures after he has gotten chubby and looks like a real person, but for now we are absolutely thrilled with our visit and would recommend it to all expectant couples.

Orchids Nails & Spa

Went here somewhat skeptically with a friend from work...I am so picky when it comes to nail salons that I hate venturing outside my comfort zone because very rarely am I happy with the services received. I am SO happy to say that Orhid Nails & Spa went above and beyond my expectations.

When I entered, I was shown a menu with straight forward pricing and services offered. My friend and I each decided to go with a Spa Deluxe Pedicure, which included a peppermint foot/leg mask and a scrub along with the normal soak and pamper in the chair with the back massagers. It was listed at $30, which is a pretty good deal....I normally pay $28 just for the pedicure part.

Perhaps it was because we were the only ones in the salon, or maybe this is just your average visit which is what I hope, but we were given amazing treatment and the massage portion of our pedicure seemed to go on and on and on. The peppermint mask on your feet and legs was absolutely heavenly, and the scrub made my skin feel like a baby's butt. Normally there is a short massage with lotion, but on this visit there was a massage at every turn. Anyone who can get my tired feet to relax gets my undying love and devotion, and these women know their stuff.

The salon itself is small, but very clean. It's located in the off Mira Mesa and Scranton Parkway, in the McDonalds and Qualcomm foodcourt shopping center. The ladies said the best time to come without an appointment is after 4 pm, but we went at lunch and it was very quiet.

Loved the pampering, loved the paint and flower on my toesies, will definitely be back soon.

Jc's Flowers & Mini Mart

Fun little store to get leis that won't cost you an arm and a leg. We needed specially made leis with mailei leaves for a Celebration of Life ceremony, and although the staff of JC's weren't expecting any to arrive in time, they acommodated us and put in a rush order. We also had purple orchid and tuberose leis made for the participants of the ceremony. The leis were beautiful, smelled like heaven, and the employees were pretty helpful. Do make sure to pre-order 5-7 days ahead if you need something special, or even just to make sure they have the flowers you need in stock.

The also sell typical mini-mart items, liquor, dry good food items, candy, etc...Family-owned and operated in Kapaa.

Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa

I love this place! Location-wise, it absolutely cannot be beat--you are smack dab in the middle of all the action in Waikiki. Nearby are lots of great restaurants, (some pricy and some reasonable) surfboard, kayak, and outrigger rentals right on the beach in front of the hotel, and beautiful views.

I also have to say I was VERY impressed with the staff here. They were courteous, found answers for all my questions quickly, followed up with us to see if we needed more towels since we'd accidentally left the "Privacy" hanger on the door all day on one occasion, and treated us with kindness the whole time. We even got an (unsolicited) upgrade because we were on our "pre-wedding honeymoon"--they sent a bottle of champagne to our room and gave us an ocean-deluxe room instead of the standard one we'd paid for. Very sweet, and since we won't have time for an actual honeymoon for over a year, this was a much-appreciated gesture!

Only drawback is that the pool was under construction while we were there, but they had arranged for guests to use the Marriott pool 3 blocks away. We had the ocean across the street, and didn't mind about the pool at all.

If you do stay here, make sure to book a room that includes the breakfast buffet. It was great, and it's served on an outdoor patio overlooking the beach across the street. Having this included with our room ended up saving us money on food, we were so full all day from the omelettes, waffles, etc that we had at breakfast that we didn't eat lunch once the whole trip! Took the money we saved and went parasailing instead. :)

Would definitely stay here again, we had a great experience. Show owner comment »

I have only eaten here once, and it was "ok." I came at lunchtime, but apparently happy hour is the time to come because rolls are on super special (half off, or so....)

I ordered a sashimi plate and a cup of miso soup....the soup was good, although nothing out of the ordinary. The sashimi plate was large for the price $12.95, and it LOOKED great, but while eating it a couple of pieces of fish did not taste fresh. The tuna smelled a little suspect, so I left it on the plate. I did like the little scoops of different kinds of salad. Nice touch. The seaweed salad was especially crunchy and I really liked the vinegary sweetness. Yum.

No alcohol on the premises. Boo. I like Japanese beer when I eat sushi.

All in all, not great, not terrible...if I am in the area during happy hour, I would probably give it another try.
