I'm not really sure how anything here is priced at  'really affordable'. When a succulent plant that costs $2-4 they're selling for $10, or a piece of driftwood costs $30....
I don't call that reasonably priced. I call that being ripped off, when I know that I could buy it at a nursery, walmart, target, online, or from a local plant sale much, MUCH cheaper. Not to mention simply walking on the beach to find wood.
What I presume to be the owners look like they're wearing costumes. If they actually are, then that's a bit weird, but okay. If they're not, then that's even stranger.

Neat little shop to look at, but as of now I won't be spending my money here because its simply not worth it. I can support local small business AND still get a good deal, just not here.

Came here on a Saturday at 5PM. The place was just opening and was pretty much empty. The ambiance is a little odd, but I say that as a good thing. It's unique and the music was a nice techno/jazz mix that I think was pretty relaxing.

Our waiter was SUPER nice and friendly and sat us down near a window so we could watch the rain. I think the menu layout could be switched around a bit (as others here have mentioned) but if you have any questions they're more than happy to answer them for you. And if they don't know, they're willing to go find out.

We ended up ordering:
shishito pepper tempura w/miso dipping sauce
kuributa pork belly skewer (sort of)
tonkatsu ramen
miso soup
the pacific rim roll and
the samurai roll.

To drink we both had the lotus drop.

I thought the pepper tempura was delicious. The peppers are sweet, and only slightly spicy. The miso dipping sauce was delicious (and I would love a little side salad with some of that on it) and was a great compliment to the dish. The pork belly skewer ended up actually being the short rib stew due to a mistake the waiter made, but I didn't really care. He offered to replace it, but I declined. The short rib stew was so tender and juicy and DELICIOUS!
The tonkatsu ramen wasn't what I was expecting. I was expecting a ramen bowl, complete with tonkatsu (deep fried pork), egg, greens, etc...all on a bowl of ramen. It was more soup-ish and less ramen-ish, but still had good flavor. The miso soup was very flavorful and good.
The sushi, I thought, was the best. The pacific rim roll, firstly, was beautiful. Fresh spring greens over an inside-out roll. The lemon gave it a refreshing flavor while the wasabi oil gave your mouth a quick kick. You could taste all the ingredients, without any particular one being overwhelming. The samurai roll was mine, and I asked to substitute the crab with spicy tuna, as my boyfriend is allergic to shellfish. They had no problem with this, and for that I am SO thankful. It was DE-LICIOUS! I think this is one of my favorite sushi rolls, EVER. It was crunchy, flavorful, and the tuna wasn't overcooked (as so many tempura rolls often get). The jalapeno was just enough to be spicy but enough to burn.

And the drink was down right tasty. It was tart, refreshing, and satisfying. Everything I could ever want from a cocktail.

Overall, neat ambiance, good food, good service, and close to my work. I will definitely be back. Probably Tuesday, when they're open for lunch. :D YUM!!

My sister took me here for my birthday after seeing 'Totem'. It was a nice place, very soothing and relaxing.
We ordered crispy pig ears and their mushroom cigars. Both were absolutely delicious, and I could have simply eaten those as my meal. We followed it by the grilled cheese and soup, which was SOOO tasty. (Don't bother getting the bacon on it, because it'll be mushy and won't add much flavor to the sandwich.) The soup was a improved spaghetti-o sauce and was perfect for dipping the grilled cheese in. The side salad was over-dressed and was completely unnecessary.
Drinks were good, and the server was nice. It was a little hard to get her attention at times, but overall it was good service.
My only complaint is/was dessert. I ordered the lemon cheesecake. It came and was...disappointing to say the least. It was lumpy and flavorless. The crust was over-seasoned, the fruit was bland. I've made better cheesecakes. I've bought better frozen cheesecakes from Costco. I ate a couple of bites, and then once we got the waitresses attention and asked for the check, I let her know what was wrong with it.
She offered another dessert, but I declined.
Overall, it was a bit pricey to really go on a regular basis and I wouldn't order dessert again. It's a nice 'special occasion' place to go and eat at. I'm glad I got the experience, and can I now say that I've eaten pigs' ears and I found something with mushrooms in it that I enjoy. :)

I've avoided working out for a very long time. I'm simply not motivated to continue going because it's boring and doesn't hold my attention.
However, Zumba is incredibly exciting and constantly switches things up. It's super fun! The moves are constantly different, the music is upbeat and exciting, and whenever you start to feel too tired you just have to look around and see all the people having fun!

I'm a bigger girl too, so that was also another issue with going to the gym, but there are girls of ALL shapes and sizes that go to Zumba, so it feels completely judgment-free.

I love it! And can't wait to go again tonight!!

Side note: Parking is very scarce, but there's a Safeway JUST down the street. Just make sure you park in a lighted area to be safe, and lock all of your stuff in your trunk. Don't be too worried about it, just be cautious about it. :)

This place is fabulous! If you plan on going during dinner or lunch, either call ahead of time or prepare to wait for a little while.
The waitstaff is incredibly friendly, the atmosphere is nice and comfortable (not too fancy), and the food is delicious!
I had the Manly burger, which was SUPER tasty. I also tried my sister's Hatch Burger...which will definitely be my choice next time. The cheesy tots with Jalapeno Ranch were pretty good, and the onion rings were just okay for me. But the burger was BEYOND delicious.
I did not try dessert (I was just too full!) but I've heard its absolutely delicious and I NEED to go back and taste them.

I would definitely go again, and recommend it to anyone who needs their burger fix!!

Blick Art Materials

Let me firstly say that this is an ART store, not a CRAFT store. If you're looking for more 'crafty' type items, they may or may not have it. However, if you need painting, ceramics, drawing, metal or portfolio supplies, you're in the right spot. If you're not sure, call ahead of time and ask.

I came here for ceramic supplies and was pleasantly surprised. They don't offer a lot of clay, but they have sculpting tools and under-glazes/glazes. Walking around, I was simply amazed at how much stuff they have. As an artist, just BEING in this store makes me giddy.

Prices can vary. Sometimes you'll find an awesome deal, sometimes it'll be a little expensive. It really depends on what you're looking for, and the brand.

The people are nice, and I was asked several times if I needed any help. The security guard is extra friendly and always handles my backpack for checking in.

I ride the BART here from Hayward, and get off at the Powell station. I only have to walk about a block to get there. So convenient!!

OVERALL: I love this store. Prices can get a little crazy, and sometimes they run out. However, it's in San Francisco, the art student capital of the US. Call ahead of time to make sure they have what you want so you don't waste time.

Jim's Hair Salon

This place is AWESOME! I called and made a same day appointment because I didn't want to have to wait. And boy, I did NOT have to wait at all. He was cutting my boyfriend's hair, and took only 10 minutes. The last place we went took over 1/2 hour (and this is just for a trim, not styling).

And my boyfriend's hair looks amazing. It's a great, professional hair cut that's perfectly done. He was super nice and friendly, and didn't feel the need to force the conversation. And he only charged $10 (don't forget to tip, because they deserve it!). When we were leaving, I asked him if he did girl's hair. His answer? Even better at it!

Overall: I would call ahead, just so you don't have to wait, but the place offers magazines and has a very comfortable atmosphere. I can't wait to go back and get my hair cut. I'm so glad I finally found a place to go that I can trust!!  YAY!

Let's start by saying that I love Japanese food. LOVE.
So, I suppose when I went there I expected good food and good service. Well, they missed on both accounts. The service was poor, and the food was second rate at best. Low on flavor, small on portion sizes, and expensive for said portion sizes. My Firecracker roll was anything but spicy, the rice tasted like VINEGAR, and the miso soup was made using a sweet miso paste. Not exactly what I want for dinner.
On top of that, the owner was extremely rude. When I asked if the Chirashi (mixed fish over rice) had any seafood or shellfish, she replied 'no'. I said, 'Are you sure?' To which she confirmed and listed 6 different types of fish that were on the dish. Perfect! (Or so I thought.) 20 minutes later, we receive that dish with shrimp on top. This wouldn't be such an issue if my boyfriend wasn't deathly allergic to shellfish. I tell her what happened, and ask her to remake it. 2 minutes later she comes out of the kitchen and says 'I'm just going to put some salmon there, okay?"
NO! It's not okay! I've already explained the shellfish allergy and the death that follows. It needs to be remade! 10 minutes later she comes back, and gives me a LECTURE, saying that I needed to be more clear on what I was asking and specifically ask for no shrimp. I responded that since she told me there wasn't any shellfish on it, that I shouldn't have had to specify, because there shouldn't have been any to begin with! She continued to tell me that it was my fault and what I should say next time I order so that I don't confuse them.
There will not be a next time.

Overall, the poor service and the poor food quality have scarred me. I will not return, and I will inform everyone I know to stay clear. What's horrible, is that I know they also own Gonsea in Eureka (a Chinese restaurant), which makes better sushi than this place.
What a horrible letdown for this little town. Don't even bother.

This restaurant just opened in place of a closed Denny's in my hometown, and boy am I glad it's there! There's not a lot of places to go in Fortuna, but this is definitely a great dinner spot. The prices are reasonable for a steakhouse, and their service is great. The waitress we had was incredibly attentive, and the food was delicious.
My only issue is that they're only open 4-10pm. What if I want lunch?!

I should have known. I simply should have known. 4th of July and 1.5 hours until fireworks. We figured it should be fine. Staff was busseling around and it was a full house but not overly crowded. We even overheard the staff saying that fireworks were see-able from the patio where we were sitting.
Firstly, it took forever for the waiter to take our order. I understood that it was a holiday, so I didn't let it get me riled up. An hour from when we ordered, we get our food....and one wrong dish. We decide not to send it back because we don't want to wait. The food was okay. Mashed potatoes were bland, asparagus was undercooked, but the flat iron steak was very good. The glaze was delicious.
We foolishly ordered dessert. 20 minutes later it arrives. A piece of flavorless chocolate "fondant" (AKA: Cheesecake) and sticky toffee pudding (which is really cake and I had no idea). The caramel ice cream was lightly flavored but completely ruined by the giant piece of mint placed underneath.
Fireworks started before we even got our dessert. And the waiter lied in saying that fireworks were visible. It even took about 10 minutes for the waiter to even run my card.

Overall, the food was bland and sub-par. Prices are astronomical compared to what the quality of food is. Service is S-L-O-W.
I would never recommend this place to anyone. How they stay in business with so many other restaurants nearby astounds me.

UPDATE: I was contacted by the manager today through Yelp, and was sorely disappointed. He apologized, only to then lather his message with excuses as to why they were slow and that I misunderstood what was said about the fireworks.
To me, this further lowered my opinion of this establishment. It was uncouth, and was generally insulting. When I hear a waiter say "Yes, the fireworks are visible from here.", there is no way to misunderstand that statement. On top of that, blaming the slow service (and wrong dish) on the holiday and on staff is a poor excuse, especially for someone claiming to be the manager.

Because of this interaction, I have re-rated from a 2 star to a 1 star rating.
