I walked in after 1 on a Thursday afternoon so there was no line, just two people eating in the cafe and yet it took a while for someone to take my order.

I ordered the Reuben panini.  It was the very first item on the panini menu board.  The description on the menu board said corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, 1,000 island dressing on rye.

I got my sandwich and walked back to my office, opened it up to find corned beef on white with lettuce drowning in 1,000 island dressing.

No rye bread.
No Swiss cheese.
No sauerkraut.
Lettuce? Really?

Now I could be more forgiving if it was noon and it was busy but I WAS THE ONLY ONE THERE - no pressure at all in getting it right.  Shouldn't have been mixed up with any OTHER orders.

You guys suck and I am not walking all the way back to get it fixed.

Coquette Cafe

Let me start by stating that I walked to the restaurant from work with one of our IT directors.  Since the ambiance is upscale, old-world French (love the cafe curtains), warm and cozy, it was wasted on us.  Too bad for me, I would love to come back with my husband!  The service was wonderful, the server was very attentive on this busy Friday.

I ordered a lemonade (work lunch, boo-hoo, can't have wine) and the Grilled Chicken Breast Sandwich which was served with cole slaw.  I hate hate hate mustard so I am limited when the menu uses the word 'dijon' like a teenager uses the work 'like'.  The sandwich was served on toasted, buttered bread with thin slices of chicken breast, provincial pesto, provolone cheese, and arugula.  It was fantastic.  As chicken breast sandwiches go, this one stands alone against all others. It was that good.  The cole slaw was made with a nice light dressing that was very tasty.  It definitely held up to the cabbage without being overpowering.

My co-worker ordered the daily lunch special with soup and a salad (I can't remember exactly what it was called but the portion size of the soup was large enough for a man's appetite and the salad had cranberries, walnuts and goat cheese sprinkled throughout. It looked fantastic. He comes here often because he likes it so much.

I look forward to coming back in the evening for a romantic dinner.

Transfer Pizzeria Café

We went to Transfer late last night, which was a Saturday night.  It was still really busy (standing room only) but we were greeted by a friendly host who stated that it would be an hour for a table but the counter clears quickly so we would be able to wait there as soon as a spot opened up.  In less than 10 minutes the counter section cleared as tables were available and we pulled up to a stool.  We decided that we would just eat there instead of waiting for a table.

I ordered a Corona and my  husband ordered a Chimay.  After a look at the menu and reading the chef's bio, we were not going to order the usual pizza.  We picked out the Garlic Special, which was a crust with garlic cream sauce, cheese, sausage and mushrooms.  We ordered a small that turned out to be larger than a dinner plate.  We also started with the bruschetta.

The bruschetta was delivered with the most amazing bread.  It was rubbed with garlic and toasted to perfection.  The tomatoes in the bruschetta were large chunks with nice pieces of basil throughout.  Simple ingredients make the best dishes.  The pizza came and the smell was fantastic.  After one bite of this incredible pizza, we were both thrilled with taking the chance on something different.  Ordering a pizza will never be the same again. It was that good.  The crust was perfect, and the sausage was delicious.

The amazing part of this dinner was the price. The food is reasonably priced considering they are a member of Braise, USA I thought it would be more expensive...which would not have mattered because it is worth it.  We are still talking about how good that pizza was.

A few years back I went into this store and asked the print service staff to make me a high-quality copy of my advanced degree to hang on my wall at work (I just wanted to keep the original in a much safer place, my home office).  The copy was made on heavy-duty stock paper in a few minutes and I was on my way.

I went back a month ago to have the same thing done for my husband's bachelor degree.  The clerk told me that she had to refuse to make me a copy because it was illegal to copy a degree.  I asked to see a copy of the law.  She fumbled through some store manual to no avail.  So I finally asked for some card stock so I could use the in-store copy machine and make my own copy.  The same clerk said she would show me how to make the copy on the card stock then never came back to help.  Another customer who uses the service regularly finally helped me make the copy.

What a bunch of crap...I cannot make a copy of a document that we already own, even after I had it done there once before? Especially just to hang on the wall.  I still can't get anyone from that store to show me anything in writing.

I walked up to the window and instantly ordered the burger with the Merkt's cheese spread that I had heard about from others.  Apparently it has a name, it's the Seagull.  So, like I said, I ordered the Seagull, medium-rare which comes with sauteed onions and the cheese spread.  I also ordered the onion rings and a vanilla malt.  My husband ordered the Old School which is a burger with ketchup, mustard, pickles, onions and the optional American cheese.

As we waited for our number to be called we enjoyed the lake view on this sunny summer Sunday, thinking about how soon we will be into fall weather since it's already September.  There was almost an urgency in coming here to get the full experience during the summer months.  It's a gorgeous location.

We got our food and sat at the nearest picnic table.  The first bite of my burger made all that gooey cheese spread just ooze out, it was fantastic.  And it was cooked exactly the way I ordered in, pink in the center but stlll warm.  I love the size of the burgers here, they are on the smaller side.  That means I have enough room to enjoy the onion rings and malt that I split with my husband with a lot less guilt.

It's a perfect summer experience.

Everything is great about Salon Today. The owners, Khanh and Thoi are wonderful people and Mark, the stylist who works for them is very friendly and helpful as well.  I have acrylic nails and the fee for having them done and the upkeep is so very reasonably priced.  The shop is neat and clean and located in a nice area next to a southside neighborhood.  There is plenty of parking and scheduling is easy.  I highly recommend this hard working team of professionals.

Our group ordered a few burgers which were overcooked, a bbq chicken pizza which smelled like ... rotten shoes and bad milk.  Everything was terrible except the servers were pretty nice.

Brocach Irish Pub

Three stars, four stars, it's a tough choice since nobody ever says they go to Ireland for the food (maybe Italy or France but not Ireland!).  With that said, Brocach has really good food, for Irish food.  I had to try the Shepard's Pie and it was great.  It was in a flavorful dark gravy and loaded with meat and vegetables.  It was served nice and hot and is so good on a chilly day.  My daughter had the vegetarian version and it looked almost like the original.  It was loaded with mushrooms, peas and barley in a rich, dark gravy and was just as good as the meat variety.

Beer, it's all about the beer!  This traditional bar had the partitions that are found in the bars in Ireland. It had that authentic feel and the servers and staff were friendly and efficient.  I look forward to heading back to try the reuben.

Stopped by for lunch with a large group (9 of us) and it was great that the staff could easily handle our order and deliver efficiently and correctly.

The chips and salsa that were delivered to the table upon arrival was very good.  The chips were fresh and crisp and the salsas were delicious.  I had the Sopa de Limon which is a cup of tortilla soup nicely loaded with chicken, tortilla strips and vegetables. It was flavored with a little lime which enhances all those wonderful Mexican spices in the broth.   I also had the Tacos al Gusto and chose tinga (spicy chicken and pork) for the meat.  They were served the way all great tacos are served, with onions and cilantro.  The flavor was fantastic.  The smoky chipotle taste was just perfect.

The restaurant is bright and cheerful, loaded with some of the cheezy decorations I normally see in a variety of Mexican venues.  It has a cute, upbeat feel that is very welcoming.  I look forward to going back again.

Triskele's

The food is so good.  My husband had the all you can eat mussels and re-ordered three times! The mussels came in a light cream sauce or a garlic butter sauce and he had both.  He loved them.  I had the beer, sausage and potato soup.  The broth was thin and light and it was so flavorful.  It was delicious.  I also had a side order of the macaroni cheese with gorgonzola and goat cheese.  It was also fantastic.  The sangria was really good as well.

The restaurant is small and quaint and I love watching the cook fill the orders right behind the bar.  The servers are friendly and the prices are reasonable.  The menu is limited but that's ok, quality is always better than quantity.
