Silver Pond

My preferred place for authentic HK food. Living in NJ, sometimes it's pain to go to Chinatown. This place is closer and the food is better. Dim sum is made to order, and during the week they offer dinner specials. The dinner menu reminds me of home a lot, and the quality is very close to what I used to have in HK, if not better.

If you live in NJ or in UES/UWS, I really don't see a reason for you to trek all the way down to Chinatown when you can have better food and probably better traffic going to Silver Pond.

For the first timers, they have a parking lot behind the building, and if that's full, meter across the street is pretty darn cheap. They only accept Amex, so bring cash if you don't have one.

Growing up, I hang out with people with wealthy background, so dressing up during the day for a lunch in a fancy restaurant was nothing new to me. But over the years, I'd forgotten how fancy this type of restaurants can be. I definitely felt underdress with my button up shirt and jeans.

The restaurant is very proper (quick note: people who lead you to your table walks extremely slow, so don't run over them :P), but I didn't feel the place snobbish at all. Hostess was extremely nice and helpful and the waiters were great too.

Food wise, I was more impressed with what is in the dish than the taste of the dish. The food is very interesting, especially with the combination of the ingredients and it was a tasty meal, but I guess I was expecting a little more from a high-end restaurant. I would love to go back and prove myself wrong though.

The whole experience was great, I had a great time with my friend and the food came in a good pace - they didn't keep us waiting for the next course or made us rush through our meals.

Oh, don't forget to have some of their marshmallow, it's awesomely awesome!!

Only gotten the take out so far, so I'm not going to review the ambience and concentrate on the food itself.

This is definitely the best KFC I've eaten so far, even better than Bon Chon when it was at 32nd and 5th. The skin is crispy and not too sticky like most of the fried chicken I've had, while the meat itself is very tender.

The bulgogi sliders are a must have! I think I can take down at least two orders (3 for each other) with a medium size chicken myself!!

Will update this review once I taste more of their menu and visit the restaurant.

Food was ok, I would definitely prefer richer taste in the taco. I'll definitely come back again to try the rest of the menu.

Now onto the good stuff:
1. Fast response on twitter, I asked them when they'll be in my hood and they response almost right away and next thing you know, I got a message from them saying they're around. I haven't seen any food trunk that communicates this well.
2. Even though the food is ok, I did enjoy them. I want to try all of the taco in their menu before giving them a fair grade.

Not sure if it was something wrong with their ventilation that day, but the place was smokey! I had to throw my whole outfit into the wash cause I smelled like burger from head to toe.

Everything was good aside from their burgers (you have to try their parmesan cheese!). I'd even say everything on the burger was good except the meat. I asked for medium rare and I got medium, the meat was too lean for my taste, with not much juice coming out from it.

If you go, go before 12 or after 2, unless you want to wait for a while.

Meh.

Not saying the burger sucks, it's ok, nothing to rave about. Staff is efficient and friendly, I had a decent time eating there. But for a place that has been raved about on their burgers, I really don't find it THAT good. And for the price I paid + the availability of food trunks in the neighbourhood, definitely not the best option out there (but still beats all the tourist places).

Using Kogi as a standard, I do set the bar pretty high for all Korean taco trunks. That's said, I think in general their concept just doesn't work. One thing I like food trunks in general is you don't have to stand there and think what you need to put into your food. The menu tells you what they have, not steps for you to create your food. A food trunk supposed to sell something fast, and I don't want to wait for 15 minutes because some guy in front of me can't decide which kind of kimchi he wants.

The food was very blend, and their special sauce tasted like a very heavily mayo-ed sauce. However, I did go on their opening day, so I'd give them the benefit of the doubt that they still have some kinks to work out and try it again when they're in my neighbourhood.

I never knew falafel sandwich can be this light and fresh! Whenever I think of falafel, I think of semi heavy, richly sauced food stands, but this one took me by surprise. The falafel and veggie mixed in the sandwich so well you can taste all of them at the same time and they blend well with each other.

Can't wait for the trunk to stop by my neighbourhood again!

If you're used to karaoke in HK during the 90s, this is the place to be, it's simple, service is efficient, and they got an awesome touchscreen system for choosing songs!

This is definitely not the most fancy place you'd go - it's in an old building which was used to be a daycare centre, and it's couple blocks next to the Manhattan, which for some people they may not feel comfortable walking around in that area late at night (I know some of my friends call that area ghetto, which makes me laugh)

What's good:
1. service - you press the button and they come right away, and they kept my room available for more than half an hour even though we were so late from our reserved time
2. cool touchscreen to choose songs from (and a bad point cause you have to sit at one spot to do it)
3. price - 40/hr + discount

What needs to be improved:
1. food - unless you're drunk or really hungry, you may want to skip the food there
2. the touchscreen system also controls everything you need to sing, like tv volumn, mic volumn, analog/digital, so it gets a little pain in the butt to go over there and change things during the song, especially if your friend is already using it

Everyone in my office who's been there has been a fan of it. This is my first time there and I'm very impressed with the kati roll. I ordered the kati roll special, which comes with 2 kati rolls, either lamb or chicken. I ordered both. At first I thought the rolls maybe too small for my appetite, especially I didn't have breakfast today, but I'm surprised that I actually feel full, although my mouth says it wants more.

The roll itself is a little sweet and tasted like coconut. The coconut taste is very subtle, like how coconut rice tastes like. The chicken was a little spicier than the lamb, but both taste great.

I will definitely go back and try the rest of the menu, my coworker had the biryani chicken with rice and he said that was good.
