well the new owners are keeping things in tip top shape! i find myself here every other week and i'm still loving jd's as it's my all time favorite place for breakfast and i pray it continues to stay that way. i find it so amazing how they have been able to cook so much great food for so long with such a small space. i'm actually really glad they have never tried to expand or relocate because they know what they are doing and they do it right.
since jd's first opened in 1973 i have been a regular but for the first couple of years i would just be eating my baby food and cheerios while my parents indulged in diner greatness. well after i was able to enjoy solid foods i was all about jd's and been a fan since then. ice cream is a good and safe food for small children so i sucked up those awesome milkshakes regularly.
i have to say an old favorite i started getting once again are the pecan waffles- 4 miniature waffles, topped with a generous amount of chopped pecans and delicately dusted with powdered sugar. and don't forget the maple syrup! and as always the best thing you MUST take home with you are jd's famous pecan pies. well let it be known, they are THE BEST i have ever tasted. they have a light, flaky crust and the filling is not overly sweet (like some pecan pies that iv'e had in the past), but just right. and the crunchy pecans on top are a perfect finish....... To die for!
since the 70's this has been a family favorite for a really good breakfast experience. as a child i never thought much about the food and atmosphere but with age i look at this place and kinda laugh. the omelette's are great and portions are large but the atmosphere really gets me. now i look at it and it make you feel as if your dining in the 70's. makes me wonder why they have never done much to change the appearance with time. it's something you just have to see for yourself and you'll be thankful it still has the old school look to it. it's almost like i'm eating breakfast at a diner in the popeye movie. lol
there is always a good crowd and weekends be prepared for a bit of a wait. the last time i ate there we sat on the patio and it was full and raining off and on even. that's how popular jd's is.
i haven't been since ownership change recently took place but i pray that things don't change at all.
UPDATE- new owner but still the great food and great service! take my advice and try the corned beef and hash. it's made fresh daily and it's the BEST i have ever had. the corned beef and hash omelette is a great dish and very different and well worth try, I LOVE IT. the country potatoes will also give any others a BIG run for the money. WOW! and if you ever decide to get a shake you had better share it with someone because it's so darn BIG and the best shake i have ever had!

this is a really bad chili's location! not that you can really find a great one anywhere these days. the food is still pretty good but with so many better options these days for a better menu i suggest you look elsewhere. last time i ate at this pleasanton location i server seemed to have just left the restaurant after he took our order. i know how things work in restaurants with shift changes and what not but this guy just disappeared and we couldn't get anyone to help us. at the end of the meal i even had to go to the host stand to ask if someone could get our bill for us. this was by far a very bad experience but i have had many like this at chili's.
this is a good spot for breakfast!
this is a fantastic place for lunch!
sideboard is as good as it gets when it comes to a nice lunch spot in danville. the menu is so very danville but with some really great items you just won't get at other places.
for starters make sure you get your self the fresh corn pudding and the fried brussel sprouts with lemon aioli. as for the sandwiches they have some great selections that come on acme breads with house made potato chips. the seared ahi with pickled ginger and wasabi aioli is so fresh and my favorite. the chicken salad is a good choice with apples, toasted walnuts, currants, scallions on a walnut bread. they have a pretty good burger as well but thats if you want to try a burger at almost $11.
if you want to go the pasta route they have a great truffle mac and cheese at $10 and a great spagatini at $13. this one has spicy italian sausage, goat cheese, asparagus, heirloom tomato, garlic in an olive oil pesto. every time i come in i hope they have the soft shell crab sandwich on the menu because IS GOOD!
you can come in for breakfast and you might come back but stop in for lunch and you will make it a priority to come back again and again.
