Seriously I understand the sushi craving but is it really worth going cheap and hating it afterwards??? Sushi from Trader Joes is better!
If you want some good sushi go to Tsukiji on Redondo Bch & Western...

Captain Kidd's Family Restaurant
Category: American (Traditional)
This past Friday my wife and I were interested in saving some money, versus spending $9 on a mediocre burger served up by Mickey. So we left the park and headed east across Harbor Blvd, with our original destination set for McDonalds (not our favorite but considering most places around the park are overpriced). The intersection light to get across the street brought us right in front of Captain Kids and the sign of a relatively cheap advertisment for a buffet.
Figuring we could eat a decent amount of food for maybe about the same price as Mickey D's we opted for Cpt. Kids, and much to our regret.
I can only imagine the food that was available on Devil's Island, when it was a French Prison, being considered the finest gourmet food compared to Cpt. Kids. Maybe it was the grease soaked corn dog I ate or the pizza-like substance that was bad, yet I made three trips to the bar. Three trips in vain to search for something edible. The mac n cheese is best used as an industrial grade filler of sorts, or the mashed potatoes perhaps best used as animal feed for pig slop.
I seriously cannot express enough disgust and disdain for this wretched establishment. Sure Mickey spent millions to pay off the local city council to make the neighborhood look pretty, but apparently nothing was done to improve the quality.
I'm reminded about a saying with a pig and lipstick.....

2 - Best damn gyro I have ever had, it was perfectly seasoned lamb and not overpowering. The tatziki was amazing along with the other fresh ingredients, especially the pita!
3 - Not so much a fan of the rose water, found it a bit too "rosey".
4 - Jealous still...

Pepitas Mexican Restaurant & Cantina

2 - Camarones a la Diablo (or whatever they are on the menu) - Best ones I've had, however not as hot n spicy as I was led to believe. the shrimp are larger than what I'm used to and perfectly cooked. The mushrooms were a delightful surprise.
3 - Menudo is pretty good as well, better than most places, but not as good as El Tepeyac in E. L.A.
4 - Blended margarita was perfect, not overpowering and not lacking in the tequila.
5 - Helps to have someone with you who is a regular and speaks spanish, did not have the other issues of waiting and bad service.
6 - On the fence about prices, while I agree on some level I was enjoying my food way too much to care.
- Cheap prices and very filling.
It's a teriyaki bowl place what else do you need to know? The place is always clean, the service is always prompt, and never had a issue from the past number of years eating here.
I'm partial to the beef bowl with a side of kimchi. Occassionaly I'll get the chicken salad, which I enjoy a lot.

I usually don't shop anywhere else for groceries. Why should I, when i can spend $3.99 a pound for fillet mignon. They have some of the best prices on meat and produce you will find anywhere! Better than most of these so called farmers markets that rip you off nowadays!
1 - If you go on a weekend, go early, they get very busy and parking is near impossible to find when they are.
2 - If you go when they are busy understand that your "personal space bubble" may be violated. It gets very crowded and if you don't do well with crowds then go later at night.
3 - Check out the flyer online each week, they always have amazing deals on produce. 49 cents a pound for peaches and other items.
4 - They do no carry pork products, I'm guessing it may have to do with the mostly middle eastern clientel they have.
5 - The meat is amazing! High quality, always fresh and the staff are nice!!
6 - Why throw your money away at Ralphs or Stater Bros or Albertsons or Vons. SuperKing has them all beat!!! Show owner comment »
It's still a good "taco stand", but there really are much better ones around if you don't mind driving. I love this little place in Costa Mesa on 19th and ?? (it's near the bluffs past Placentia. There food ROCKS!! El Granajal?)
Though I have to say there are better places for "street" tacos and fish tacos.
For street tacos go to the Taqueria on Springdale and Westminster in Westminster, next to the Subway and Starbucks. At 85 cents a taco you have your choice of meats and sauces, you can't go wrong, these little tacos are addictive!
For fish tacos go to Baja Fish Tacos in "South Coast Metro" aka Santa Ana, these ones are 10 times better!! They cook them up fresh (at least the last time I went - which honestly was a number of years ago) vs reheating them on the grill. They are on Bristol & MacArthur near the Vons (or is it a Ralphs?). These tacos pescado taste like the street vendors tacos from Ensenada, waaaay before it became the tourista barrio it is now.

Seeing as I live around the corner from this place and have been going here since 98 I might as well write a review.
This is your average taqueria, but the food is usually above average, so far the only issues I have have had here have been the enchiladas and the occassional messed up to go order (I ordered the carne asada plate not the carnitas plate), which I find out about when I get home. For the enchiladas it's usually the sauce that throws them off more than anything.
The usual favorites for me are as follows, in no particular order:
- Carne Asada Burrito
- Camarones a la Diablo Burrito
- Fish Tacos
- Carne Asada Sopes
I've had most of the other things on the menu, nachos, quesadillas, tortas, etc. The chicken items are so so, but then again I'm not a fan of chicken with Mexican food unless it's El Pollo Norteno. It's either meat(res), seafood or just queso for me.
The food is good I've never had any illnesses or thought otherwise about the place, but then I've eaten from the roadside taquerias in Ensenada also.
Personally I think this place is better than the Los Sanchez off of GG Blvd or Los Altos up the street off of Katella.
Date

Honestly, you panty waist people who make comments about "shady part of town" or what not, just stay in your shell... leave the food adventuring to the real foodies..

I first went here back in '97 when I worked with a girl who's uncle runs/ran the place and have been a fan ever since.
They have the usual comida mexicanos, so you can't really go wrong with what you get. BTW, the pozole and menudo are awesome! Too many times have I had a bowl of either from some other place and not been able to eat it.
I am sad that they no longer have the mixta ceviche tostada, those were the best!
So if you've been drinking, and are making it a early night you need to stop by this place!!! It so beats Alejandro's down the street.. unless your craving the greasy rolled tacos of course!
Parking can be a bit of a hassle, the lot is small and then you have what's available on the street. Prices are good and so are the fresh jugos they have, love me the horchata!
Try the machaca!!
