We had a positive house-buying experience with Scott.  We especially appreciated his thorough semi-inspection of the houses we saw with him.  Scott gave us solid advice on how to close the deal quickly when we found a house we liked.  We were happy to have his help and would recommend Scott to others looking for a realtor.

Smooth & Sassy is a newly opened waxing boutique.  I recently went for my first visit and had a great experience.

It might be a little disconcerting to arrive at the address and find a Beauty Supply store, but no worries, you'll pass through the store and into a clean and tastefully decorated room.

My experiences getting a Brazilian from Kimberly was completely positive.  Maybe it's the natural rapport and easy conversation, maybe it's the type of wax she uses or maybe it's her technique.  Whatever it is, she makes the experience seem almost easy.  Plus, the wax was more affordable than at my previous wax place!

I wish Kimberly continued success in her new waxing business and I look forward to going back.

This motel is basic, but provided exactly what we needed during our stay in Ely.  Rooms are clean and come with a microwave & refrigerator (at least ours did.)  The prices are very affordable and they also allow pets (with a deposit.)  We were pleased with our one-night stay at the Main Motel.

SR24 - CLOSED

My first experience at SR24 wasn't great, but tonight's dinner (my second visit) was surprisingly good.

My husband and I ordered dandelion greens salad (with pomegranate, blue cheese and lamb bacon), black kale, macaroni & cheese and pork belly with beans and ancho chilis.  We were happy with all of the food (including the complementary bread with chive butter.)  Part of my enthusiasm might have been that they salted some of the dishes with huge glorious flakes of salt that I thought were delightful.  I also particularly liked the pork belly dish (a unique mixture of salty, sweet and spicy.)  We thoroughly enjoyed the french toast bread pudding we ordered for dessert as well.

I'm somewhat conflicted on SR24.  Normally I root for underdogs and a fancy restaurant in a tiny strip mall in Temescal seems like the definition of an underdog.  But their prices are a bit steep which makes it harder for me to sympathize with them.  Overall I wish them well and would patronize SR24 again.

Hula's

Advertising really does work!

We decided to stop at Hula's after we saw their signboard for the "best burgers & shakes" on our way back from Mono Lake.  Always on the lookout for obscure burger shacks that serve peanut butter milkshakes (my particular addiction), we pulled in to check it out.  Not much ambiance, but they had a shady outside eating area, complete with a fountain (and the road noise of Hwy 120).

After ordering at the window, we settled down to pass the time.  I was surprised soon after when the order taker brought us our shakes.  Table service at a burger joint?  The shakes were delightful, both my peanut butter and his butterscotch (though we do wish they offered a small milkshake in addition to their medium (16 oz. I think) and large (?? oz.).)

Later, the order taker brought us out our burgers.  I had chosen the Cowboy (BBQ sauce, bacon & onion ring on top) with a side salad and my husband got the French burger (blue cheese & BBQ sauce) with fries.  I enjoyed my hamburger greatly (only complaint might be that the pickle slices seemed a little intense) and my husband liked his as well.  I'm assuming his fries were good since he ate them all.

However, what most impressed me and inspired me to write this review was my green side salad.  It was beautiful and I regret not taking a picture of it.  It looked genuinely handmade, like someone had torn a bunch of green leaf lettuce, chopped a fresh tomato and grated a real carrot.  It was accompanied by a little container of blue cheese salad dressing (not corn syrup-y chain blue cheese either).  I was shocked by the quality of this salad and though I was already struggling to finish burger & shake, I set them aside to prioritize those leafy greens.

I don't know who is making the decisions to serve genuine food over there at Hula's, but whomever they are, I applaud them.  Thank you.

The Wedding Party was a complete joy to work with.

Jennifer and Clara were patient and understanding with my indecisiveness.  They understood when I chose to go with another designer for my wedding dress.

I did end up working with them to get Siri dresses for my bridesmaids.  The dresses were just what I was hoping for, they turned out fabulously.  Everything seems to go smoothly with Clara & Jennifer.  I highly recommend the Wedding Party for people shopping for wedding gowns or bridesmaid dresses.

Chrissy was fantastic to work with.  From the moment I saw her dresses online I knew I wanted to wear one of her gowns for my wedding.  I was overjoyed to find out that she was located in Seattle and that I could visit the studio while I was up visiting my folks for the holidays.

I appreciated her flexibility; she came in near Christmas because it was convenient for me.  She didn't mind that I brought assorted parents in to see me try things on and was always super friendly.  My dad and stepmom ended up talking Seattle cycling with her-- I loved how down to earth she is.  She also didn't mind when I had a last minute freak out and came back in on my way to the airport to double check I was making the right decision.

We worked together to create a gown made out of different parts of different designs.  When the tail of the dress wasn't the color I anticipated it would be, she was happy to change it just like I wanted.  It turned out super beautifully and my guests raved about how unique the gown was and how gorgeous it was.  I loved how it looked and my groom did too.

I highly recommend Wai Ching for your formalwear needs.  I can't believe how well my dress turned out and that I got a one-of-a-kind dress that didn't cost more (and in many cases less) than the run-of-the-mill off-the-rack wedding gowns.  (Pinch me!)

Svenja did all the personal flowers for our wedding and they came out just right.  We wanted them to be unique and represent us.  Svenja spent much time helping me figure out what would work best and was happy to be accommodating to a family member's need for organic flowers only.  The flowers were ready on time.  I would highly recommend Svenja.

A Grand Affair

A Grand Affair was a pleasure to work with!  I am so happy they provided rentals for our wedding.  They were friendly, responsive, flexible and reasonably priced.  They didn't mind that I asked lots of questions and changed our rentals the week before the wedding.  Kimo & his assistant were also conscientious about setup of the tables and eager to do whatever we wanted.

They did arrive 15 minutes late, because their truck axle broke en route, but they immediately called to let me know.

I originally chose to rent from All Star Rents in Davis, because their prices for the rentals were slightly lower.  However, their pricing for set-up & take-down of the rentals was four times the cost of A Grand Affair's pricing.  Plus every interaction I had with A Grand Affair was pleasant, whereas every interaction I had with All Star Rents was neutral or negative.

I highly recommend A Grand Affair for your party rental needs in Davis!
