On Monday January 31st, 2011, I purchased a Ekornes Stressless sofa, chair, and recliner at The Sofa Company in Redondo Beach.
I visited the store a day earlier and requested a verbal quote and copies of the pricing so that I could compare the prices with those I found on the internet, which I received. After checking online, I returned to the store the following day and asked the salesperson directly, "Are you sure these prices are right? I'm surprised that they are cheaper than what I could find online," to which she responded yes, the prices were correct. I decided to make a purchase and made a 50% down payment to place the order. I received a purchase agreement and receipt confirming the order.
That evening I received a voice message stating that a mistake was made by a Sofa Company employee and that I would need to pay considerably more for the furniture. I felt that I had been a victim of selling practices that were deceptive or otherwise improper. The Sofa Company refused to sell me the furniture at a price that was agreed to both orally and in writing.
When I tried to resolve the situation with the store manager, Sana, she could have cared less. In fact, her customer service skills were so poor that she practically yelled and accused me of trying to take advantage of the situation.
Three weeks later, I have not been refunded the 50% deposit.
