Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!

This was my mission last week after reading such great reviews. While they were out of the Black & Tan, I did partake of Marilyn Monroe, French Toast, James Brown and the Red Velvet...all ridiculously good.

For those that say the cupcakes are too small, I say...a cupcake that doesn't fit in your mouth (or a champagne glass) is a waste of a cupcake. I did notice, though, that Marilyn seemed a little bigger than the rest. Nice.

This is the kind of place you stop in to pick up some new hiking shoes and, two hours later, you're still thinking "what else can I buy?". From outdoor gear, to clothes and shoes, to kitschy gifts under $10, you'll have a great time at this place. Can't wait to go back ... Just wish they had one in Round Rock.

Cold beer, good food, very comfortable feel and a great looking waitstaff (never hurts). The day I was there they had a country rock guitarist and one of the waitresses sat in for a song and rocked the house. Cool.

Fresh ingredients, clean, good service, good prices and selection...just what I look for in Chinese lunch place.

I had a chicken in black bean sauce dish that was very good and thee egg roll was hot, fresh and tasty. Even the Egg drop soup was perfect .... Great consistency, flavor and served hot.

Loved it -- we brought a large group and we're immediately seated in a large room in the back. The service staff was very friendly and attentive. Great dialogue with the kids.

Now...the food...

Holy mother-of-soul-food...it was outstanding. I had the chicken and waffles, fried okra, red beans and rice and banana pudding. That was Sunday...this is Tuesday...I'm just NOW getting hungry.

Tasted a little bit of everything from everyone else (catfish, mac-n-cheese, etc.)...all good.

I can't wait to go back.

Outstanding. Incredible. Tasty. I met a friend there for lunch and it was just what I was looking for. No frills. No fuss. Just the best Asian food I've had in a long, long time.

I had chicken in black bean sauce and my friend had the chicken with mangos. Mine had full, fresh asparagus and cloves of garlic. His had real mangos et al. It was so good, there was no sharing and no leftovers.

I'll be back...soon.

I have to say, "Wow!", for responsiveness. The owner, Brendan, hit me back with a list of the drink specials right after I posted my review.

Says two things:

- Third Base / Brendan has an attention to detail / customer service that bodes well for my/our next visit, and

- Yelp is a great tool for patrons and businesses alike. Nice.

My friends and I go up here all the time and love it. Service is usually pretty good and the design of the place lends itself to feeling like you have a lot of room to stretch out. You can't beat being able to see just about any game, any-time, any-where.

I haven't figured out their drink specials but definitely try their Chili .. outstanding!

Gettysburg National Military Park

Incredible, incredible, incredible. The new Visitor's Center and Museum (it's free) were informative, moving, and elegantly done.

The Soldiers National Cemetery on a day of sunshine and blue skies was enlightening. You can only imagine what those poor souls had to go through. The Park Rangers stories and demeanor made the place come alive. Who knew Richard Nixon's great-great-grandfather was there.

The big surprise? Gettysburg, the town itself. Nice little shops, pubs and even a cigar bar (with the cutest little pug named "Spanky"). It was a wonderful and meaningful trip for our family and will never be forgotten.
