Great Clips For Hair

Category: Barbers

5 star rating

The employees are friendly, professional and always give a great haircut. I got exactly what I wanted: a bang trim, and a few inches off my split ends. I was told I had "healthy hair", which might have been an attempt at a bigger tip, but it was appreciated nonetheless. :) Excellent work, and super reasonably priced.

Really, really disappointing. I had been here a few times last year, and I had thought the food was decent. Perhaps it was due to the beers my friend and I were sipping. Consuming this food sober is not advised. I took advantage of the $9.99 lunch buffet. The restaurant was nearly empty, despite it being close to noon. The naan was not horrible, despite being a bit burnt on one side. The curries were mostly sauce with very little chicken or lamb thrown in. And most of the dishes just looked totally unappetizing. I stuck to the vegetarian options, since the meat looked really questionable. My dining companion did confirm that it didn't taste much better than it looked. Had the service been remotely hospitable, I might be a bit kinder. Sorry, Naan 'n' Curry. I will not be returning.

Daphne's Greek Cafe

I'll admit, this is a guilty pleasure of mine. I love the fact that you can get hummus and pita bread for oh-so-cheap. Although I am sad that my favorite servers no longer work here (the tiny, super friendly girls that worked at the front), I am still a fan of the lunch and dinner specials. Where else could you get an appetizer, an entree and dessert for a mere $7? The portions fill you up, the vegetarian plate includes spanakopita AND falafel. While it is definitely NOT authentic Greek cuisine, it's tasty, and a great bang for your buck.

Exceptional. Clean restaurant, fast and friendly service, excellent dishes. We tried the Mongolian Beef, Kung Pao Tofu and Vegetable Delight. Each lunch special was only $6 a pop, and was served with rice, soup, a spring roll, and hot tea. A shining star in cheap, but tasty, Chinese cuisine.

I met up with some friends here on a Tuesday night. My first time at an underground bar. All in all, I had a blast. $5 whiskey cokes, $2 PBRs. I'll definitely be going back.

Bottom of the Hill

One of the best venues I have been to in my time living here. I have been here twice: the Strike Anywhere show last month, The Lawrence Arms show this month. Bottom of the Hill is constantly booking amazing performers, I am so impressed. Intimate enough to make you feel like you can reach out and touch the band (theoretically, you could, but let's not get carried away), but not so small that you feel claustrophobic. Also, beers are fairly reasonable in price.

Definitely check the schedule and see which acts are visiting.

Definitely make a reservation if you want to go here. It will be worth it. The drink menu is almost overwhelming, but beautiful. You feast your eyes on page upon page of tantalizing creations, and are served a complimentary shot. Ours contained champagne, and it was a very refreshing beginning to our evening.

Our drinks were served to us by a beautiful, friendly young woman. I tried the Pomegranate Ginger (a bit too sweet), the Whiskey Apple Cider (cinnamon-y and an absolute delight), and the Devil's Advocate (tart, but tasty). Although expensive, everything was absolutely incredible, and I will visit again.

Pros: complimentary water served throughout the night, amazing drinks, friendly service.

Cons: booths are small, service is a bit slow, and bartenders "shhhh"ing people every few minutes.

Everything I've tried on the menu thus far has been delicious. The fish tacos are surprisingly tasty. There's a decent salsa bar;  I love that there are extra slices of lime available.

The employees have always been exceptionally friendly, and the place is spotless inside. Their beachy decor inside is charming, as well.

Pasta Pomodoro

I had been here once before, but wasn't really impressed. I stopped by recently, hoping this time it would be better.

The food wasn't anything special, you could make the same pasta at home for much cheaper. Our server was not friendly at all. She seemed really unenthusiastic, not happy to be there. We asked for more bread, and the waitress said she would bring it as soon as more was ready. We finished our whole meal, and she brought us the check. When we asked what happened to the bread, she just mumbled something about not knowing what happened and left the table. No apology or anything.

If you want bland, overpriced Italian food, then go for it. Sadly, I don't think I'll be back.

Korean BBQ Plus!

Being hapa, I definitely need to have access to an authetntic Korean restaurant near where I live. This place is right around the corner, although it's not the best corner. Concord doesn't quite have the suburban charm that Pleasant Hill does, let's just leave it at that. Still, it's nowhere near as sketchy as some parts of Oakland. As for the food.... excellent. The little plates of appetizers are so delicious, and plentiful. I love variety, and this place definitely provides you with a nice little set up of tiny dishes to satisfy your taste buds. I always stick with the dol sot bi bim bap (a hot stoneware bowl full of rice, mixed veggies, and beef). It comes to your table, still sizzling. So amazing. I've been there several times, and the waitstaff is always so pleasant and accomodating. Definitely suggest trying this place out if you're in the East Bay.
