TWO words: prune hamantaschen. They're probably not too rare to find over here, but back home there's nowhere to get them and I just gotta hope hope that once a year dear mum bakes some. So they're still not as good as mom makes but beggars can't be choosers, you know!

We were wandering around one morning looking for breakfast and we happened to wander into this place. I got a seriously good ham and egg and mozzerella cheese sandwich melt-y thing on a squishy bun. Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure it was the best breakfast I had while in NYC. It beat the ham egg bagel at Euro Pan for sure! The selection of other stuff looked nice too and I seem to remember they had some Japanese candy (always nice to see!). If I had the chance I'd definitely come back for breakfast again!

(oh yeah, and there's a super cool view from the upstairs dining area windows!)

Delicious egg tarts! We had just got into Chinatown and I could not resist getting one--- and for only 70 cents! The crust was soo flaky too. Dessert before lunch is always nice! Plus, it's made out of eggs so it's good for you, right?

A wonderful little high-fashion one-size-fits-all type store with Hong Kong clothing. Everything was sooo cute and everybody was very helpful. It was just like if yesstyle .com was a shop you could walk into and try things on! Absolutely the most shopping fun I've had or will have this New York trip!! When I left with my new mock two piece dress and checker lace top/minidress, the girl at the counter said to come back soon. I smiled and turned my head and walked out the door wishing in my heart that I could come back someday. I'll miss you, BFNY!!!

This is my neighborhood comic book shop and my favorite store in downtown Ashland. More Fun has a great selection of manga and even though I'm so picky I can always find something new to buy. And even when I'm on a mission to find something specific, they'll order it 'specially for me if they don't have it in stock! You know I'll always come back!!

Check this out: A huge plate of spaghetti and marinara and garlic toast for... get this--- $5.00. What a deal!! I know I'm not a big eater, but I ate half of it and was stuffed. Then there was my dad who totally cleaned his plate and ate some of my bread too, but that's besides the point.

The point is, this place isn't just a good deal, everything I've tried tastes good too. What's even better is that everything's homemade. Don't just drive by on your way to and from wherever you're going and wonder "what's up with that place", turn around and get some dinner! It's fun to try new restaurants, won't you try too?

Ashland Hills Shell

This gas station advertises 50-or-so different flavors of real soda pop in real glass bottles. I went in there thinking, "There's no way they're gonna have any ramune..." And the other person I was with went in there thinking, "There's no way they're gonna have Dr. Brown's soda."

But guess what! They had both! Dr. Brown's black cherry soda (sadly no Cel-Ray), and FOUR flavors of ramune! Orange, original, strawberry, and melon (my favorite!).

I'm always on the search for any cool Japanese stuff and it was a great find yesterday. The Asia Grocery Market in Medford sells ramune also, but I've never seen orange or melon there. Cool! So come grab a taste of Japan at your local Shell station! ... Still, this place is lacking in the "they don't have any Calpico" department, so that's why they only get three stars.

Across a whole ocean from home is this place that reminds me so much of home! It may be a tiny shop, but it has plenty of health food to last a vacation in Honolulu. And they also had those little cartons of Horizon chocolate milk. One day I needed a choco milk and it really cheered me up. So nice!

There we were, walking through the Chinatown market---- and I wasn't hungry at all. Go figure. Thankfully I had just enough room to have a bubble drink and a couple custard tarts. SO yummy!!! The custard tarts were the best!! A couple girls sitting across from us were proof of the deliciousness 'cause they had just bought a whole box full of them.

When I come back to Honolulu someday I'm going to spend a lot more time in Chinatown and come back to this place for sure!

Anytime I travel I always want to go to the San Francisco airport. Even if it's only because I want to eat dim sum first thing in the morning! I know it's not as good as running into Chinatown for a snack, but who has time for that when you're traveling?

Yeah! Dim sum in an airport food court! What could be better?
(umm.. well. perhaps a mochi stand..... or fresh dorayaki? boba drinks would be nice, too.)
