Plaza Liquors & Fine Wines

Bob Stout knows his beer. There is an incredibly crazy ratio of vast knowledge about wine, beer and spirits per square foot in this place.
Plaza is more than good beer (and other stuff alcholish), it's good people. really good people who really like to be helpful and take huge amounts of pride in their work.
It's not just that they know their stuff, it's that they are so invested in sharing what they know.
Highly recommend Plaza.

Santa Theresa Tile Works

Santa Theresa is a one-of-a-kind Tucson icon. Their tiles are beautiful, unique, and affordable. And even better -- they offer classes and workshops that allow you to create your own mosaic designs while benefiting from the expertise of their in-house clay tile artisans. Stop by their show room to check out their offerings, but if you have the opportunity - definitely take a class or workshop. They are so worth it.

Bluepoint started out pretty good. When they first opened, they had everything going for them: beautiful interior, killer views of the city, a decent wine and beer list, very good food, and a hospitable staff. But, things appear to be slipping. Last visit, two weeks ago -- something strange was going on with the menu and the food just wasn't as good. We'll go again and give them another try, but I hope they can get back to the level they were at before. I miss the perfect burgers and the wonderful apps.

Spiral Salon

I've been going to John Alexander for a long, long time. He's been in a few locations, including his own, JAG salon. What can i say - John Alexander rocks. Here's the thing, he looks out for your hair. He is very good at considering what you want your hair to look like and what the least damaging way to get that look is. He's a genius with color and cut, and he's delightful to hang out with for the 3 hours that he spends on your highlights. Go, John! Spiral in general is a great place where all the stylists and staff seem happy. Go, see for yourself.

Cafe Poca Cosa

Sigh - I love love love this place - Suzanna Davila is not only a great chef, she's really sweet and always comes out to check on how your meal is. That's pretty cool. Okay, I DO miss the old location, but the acoustics are better in the new digs. The salsa is so good you will be tempted to eat too many chips, and since you'll want to eat all of your plato you have to be careful...basically prepare to leave poca cosa with a very full belly.
if there are any negatives at all, i would say that sometimes some of the servers can be a little pretentious, but hey - maybe that's just me.

Though it runs a close race with Poca Cosa, Kingfisher is my favorite "nice" restaurant in Tucson. It's consistently fabulous. The oysters/seafood are the best you'll find in Tucson, and they have lovely service in the bar. Great late night dining as well. Just a classy, classy place with a low-key atmosphere and consistently great food.

Pancho's & Beer

Formerly part of the Taco Bron local chain, Pancho's & Beer is now owned & managed by one of the former Taco Bron employees. I love this place. We've been going there for 4 years now, and the food is always good, the service friendly, and the prices reasonable. Sundays they have specials and a jumping castle for the kids - and for the grown ups they have really big margaritas and micheladas. Nice outdoor seating too. There is always a game on the outdoor TV's, so sports fans will be happy.

I love this place. It is so great to go here after work or on a weekend and just sit on the patio and watch the sunset. The beer is pretty darned good. My husband digs the porter and i recommend the copperhead pale ale. Food is great (fish tacos, burgers, and pretzel sponges rock). Nice casual atmosphere with a fun mix of people (business professionals from UA and downtown area, artists and others from the local neighborhoods, and blue collar workers from the surrounding warehouse district businesses). It's a good thing. oh, and they are wheelchair accessible. YEY!

If you're looking for a real estate agent who really knows Tucson and actually cares about helping her clients make the best choices in buying and selling - you need to talk to Nicole Brule-Fisher of Realty Executives. Nicole specializes in green realty, but she is also great for first-time and out of state home buyers. She helped us find a house in one weekend when we relocated her from Berkeley - she asked the right questions to help narrow down the field, and showed us just four houses from which we found the perfect home for us.  We wouldn't ever work with anyone else. Highly recommended!

Henderson Handyman Services

Shawn Henderson is an incredible handyman/contractor. He can do almost anything, is totally reliable, reasonably priced, creative, and also a very nice person to have around your house. Highly recommended - he has done all kinds of projects for us over the last year and a half. Everything from remodeling our master bath, building closets, putting in saltillo floors, lighting, etc. etc. We have had some not so great experiences with other contractors, so finding Shawn has been a blessing. If you need a licensed contractor, call Shawn - you'll be very lucky to get him.
