Jones Center For Families

Categories: Amusement Parks, Amateur Sports Teams

4.0 star rating

My family and I have gone to Springdale, AR several times for the sole purpose of going to the Jones Center. We have attended birthday parties, a health fair expo, and of course swimming and ice skating.

The lap pool is wonderful and the other play pool has a great slide for big kids (and adults) and a splash area for the little ones. The ice skating rink is large with plenty of seating and even bleachers for matches.
My kids think it's great to be able to do those 2 seasonal activities indoors all year round!!

Although they recently had to raise their fees, the low price is still a bargain and the best value for families in all of NWArk.
Plus general admission to the building is free, so parents or grandparents can watch their children without any added expense of entry fees.

They also have a gym with workout rooms, weights, basketball courts, and classrooms to rent for public use, community education, and a food court.

Yelp

As a new business owner and Chiropractor (read: under-funded start up in the competitive field of independent healthcare), I thought it would make sense to be both creative and frugal in advertising.
So I've been building a local and web presence using my Wordpress based web site, Blogspot blogs, Google places, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, and Youtube.

But I have also hoped to find something else that would help the average person who is looking for chiropractic services be able to read an unbiased review and decide to give us a try, even without any prior contact with me, my website, Fb fan page, etc.

Enter Yelp!
On the surface it is a very cool idea - real people, real reviews -  and on the surface it seems like a pretty simple strategy for a business owner to be creative and have clients help spread the good word. http://www.yelp.com/bi...

This does NOT appear to be working. So far I've seen all the reviews of my business page "filtered" and promptly removed. This makes no sense, except possibly the odd rule about filtering reviewers who aren't using Yelp regularly, which somehow invalidates their opinion (this is a Bogus reason to filter, BTW, because plenty of people blab about stuff all the time and their volumes of nonsense don't justify them as more worthy to be posted than a New or occasional yelper).
In my case, the blocked comments are from people who wanted to share their testimonial and help others find out what we are providing and how it helped them.

I've spent some time on Yelp personally reviewing several local businesses, and I like the opportunity to share my opinions and help others.

"Yelp" and "Help" rhyme for a reason right?

Or not, unless I am the one helping Yelp with added revenue. Hopefully this is not true...
I certainly would like to think this whole Yelp thing is NOT just another money-making scam posing as an authentic addition into the Social Media world.

If so, I guess the "sheeple" comment earlier was right on and I've been duped!!
Maybe we'll stick to Facebook and Google.

Flying Fish

My wife and I ate at the Flying Fish in Bentonville (1st time) yesterday.

It was Friday night and the place was jam-packed with the line all the way through the store out the door on the sidewalk to the street! Even w/ the crowd the wait wasn't too bad. Lots of fried food on the menu (and the hush puppies were great), but there are some healthier choices for the more discerning taste.

We shared a plate of grilled salmon, grilled veggies with rice and beans, plus 2 sides and some great fresh lemonade. It was all fresh and ready quickly.

The only complaint was the fish was slightly charred for my wife's taste (it wasn't burnt or over-cooked, just had almost black grilled markings on one side).

We spent $20 total and enjoyed the food.
We'll go back sometime with the kids, I'm sure!

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art

I've been to this museum 3 times so far. Our family attended on the very busy official Grand Opening - Veteran's Day 2011 and twice since then.

It is a stunning & memorable place to visit with your family & friends or even alone...it is very relaxing, compelling, thought-provoking, inspiring, and a little weird too!!

The Ozark region of #NWArk area is better known for local arts & crafts, rather than fine art, but this is certainly changing and expanding. FREE access to a truly world class museum in our backyard should help broaden the cultural experience for Arkansas and neighboring states!

I love the sweeping beams and curves of the unique architecture. The gorgeous natural setting near Crystal Springs is a bonus for nature lovers. This massive facility is nestled into the limestone walls of a secluded wooded ravine. It is a delightful place to explore the surrounding walking trails, streams, trees, wildlife, and even enjoy a bicycling adventure.
My children were impressed too, and not just the interactive hands-on education room (which is great!), but they truly enjoyed the incredible collection of American art.

Check out my blog post about our 1st visit: http://genesis-chiropr...

I will go back soon.

Allen's Discount Foods

Allen's Foods is a very friendly place to shop with an excellent selection (especially for a smaller grocery store). It is a nice change from "you know who" - corporate America - and the prices at Allen's are usually quite competitive.

They offer quality meats. Their staff is great because they will listen to you and go above and beyond expectations to help their customers!!

We love their new emphasis on organic & natural products.

Make the little trip up to Bella Vista. You will not be disappointed.
And make sure to say "hi" to Max for me!

Redband Coffee Company

Bill and Angela both reviewed Redband coffee and I agree whole-heartedly with them. Coffee has never been better!

As I type this, I'm enjoying an Ethiopian Harrar, just a basic drip (but done like nowhere else). It has a full-bodied but smooth feel, a complex blend of flavor & aroma with a hint of sweetness that includes a berry taste followed by a hint of cocoa.

For the uninitiated that description probably sounds like nonsense, and to be frank, I'm slightly amused at the conversion I've made...from being a non-coffee drinker just a few years ago to a self-proclaimed connoisseur / border-line coffee snob now.

I got hooked on good coffee in Guatemala several years ago, and once my "smuggled stash" of beans from Antigua were gone, I was extremely disappointed by Folgers, Maxwell House, Dunkin' Donuts, and the omnipresent Starbucks. (I seriously don't know how people do that stuff!?!)

Anyway, Redband Rules and I regret living 2 states away!

Dr. Marvin Shipman (Naturopath) and his wife are absolutely wonderful people, very helpful and knowledgeable. They have a very holistic and integrated view of how the body works and what it takes to help move people in the right direction.
BTW, the Yelp map has their store marked in the wrong place. Ozark Herb & Spice is actually across the street from the Krispy Kreme store in Bentonville.
