As for creative ceviche, it really doesn't get any better than this quaint bar seating only restaurant in the East Village. Went last night with two other friends.
We dined on the tea smoked oysters, coconut rice, sweet potatoes, hamachi and the ceviche mixto (tuna and salmon with coconut, pineapple and some delicious peppers to had heat) and the special of octopus. All the dishes were delicious with the hamachi being the favorite. Each dish was flavor and had depth. There wasn't anyone who left hungry or disappointed at all.
Looking forward to many more returns to this quaint little spot.

The dining room had a very comfy feel and was not overly crowded. We all enjoyed our meals. Apparently almost everyone got the tuna tar tare for an appetizer, I got the duck confit, which seem to win over the crowd as an awesome dish. The main courses were decent as well. I had the pork chop, there was sea bass, steak, bouillabaisse and a few others on the table. The Parmesan potato gnocci with lamb ragu was a special that evening and was delicious. I sopped up all the lamb ragu with the yummy bread when my buddy was done with the dish.
There were cocktails on the menu, but most of the table got blood orange margaritas. We also had a few bottles of the Irony Pinot Noir.
I got myself a slice of cheesecake for dessert, which was just plain or vanilla, but pretty standard.
The drama with the check and splitting it with 8 people was redonk, but eventually got worked out. The waiter eventually couldn't stop apologizing, which made it kinda awkward, especially since he couldn't do simple math of subtracting the cash from the total.

The other items ordered were the oysters with a dill pickle mignonette which was awesome. The bone marrow and onion soup, caesar salad and Skate and potato terrine with aioli were all tasty dishes and would get 'em again. Especially enjoyed the caesar salad with the anchovy croutons. The hit was the lamb burger with the thrice cooked chips. It actually was better than the first time I had it.
The bonus, April Bloomfield was in the kitchen the entire time we had a direct view into the bustling kitchen from our table.
Will continue to go back and enjoy the food and try additional items from the menu.

Grabbed lunch here today. The place is on an unassuming block in Korea town area. If you want hip, this is pretty much it in the hood when you walk through the door. It is located in the ACE hotel. Hats off to the team from Spotted Pig for another winner.
Split the mixed grill and the Lamb Burger. Both were good. The lamb burger was the clear favorite for my friend and I. Perfectly cooked and topped with a delicious feta, there was nothing dry about it. The thrice cooked fries were pretty friggin awesome too. We were a bit intimidated by the amount on the plate of the mixed grill. This would be great as an appetizer for people who only eat meat and you brought four of your closest carnivore friends, dogs, bears or even lions.
Look forward to dining here again. Love the cool decor as well. The service was definitely friendly and attentive.
The food started off pretty amazing. The sea urchin toast was a delicious starter. Then follow that with the slow poached egg, bacon and shitakes, we were both in heaven. Then came the 35 minute wait for our entrees. This is where the both of us were underwhelmed. The monk fish and the duck "fried rice" were just not the best. The monk fish was over salted by a ton, but I think my fiance really liked it. The duck dish, lacked the main ingredient duck confit and had some nasty fruity pudding/paste to go with the dish. It really put a downer on the whole meal with two under performing entrees from such a great start.
After that long wait for the entrees, the adventure for dessert was waived off. They did bring petit fours with a candle which was a nice touch. The service, not our waitress, was friendly and helpful and somewhat attentive. Our waitress, although nice never really did much, except apologize for the kitchen delays which are obviously not her fault. They did comp the wine since they took so long with the main courses. So they aren't totally incompetent, but just not the worlds best experience. Sorry Aldea, you charged out of the gate with a furry, but fell flat on your face half way through the meal.

There was some mix up or something with our order so the kitchen was cool enough and sent out housemade waffle chips, butter-braised onion dip. This was like my favorite thing growing up at parties...who doesn't love onion dip, especially with fresh cut waffle chips. That tied me and my buddy over from our 1st few rounds of drinks.
Then our first courses came out. The one eyed Caesar and the Buffalo Sweetbreads. The Caesar was amazing, with it's one eyed Susan "crouton" of a brioche with a sunnyside up egg in the center. The sweet breads were pretty good, but anything in Buffalo sauce is pretty good. Even non-glandular officianatos would take a liking to this dish. Our mains consisted of Fried Chicken and the Beef Cheeks. The beef cheeks as expected were so amazingly succulent and fork tender. Okay...the Chicken stands alone as one of the most LEGIT fried chicken dinners. For a boneless breast to be so tender and delicious, I was blown away. The buttermilk dip, bath or jacuzzi for the chicken truly makes all the difference.
Then the intriguing dessert of hot chocolate car bomb just couldn't be left only on the menu. We ordered up a couple of those and savored every bite of the Bailey flavored Marshmallows.
It may not be long until a return trip is in order.

The only reason there is more than one star was for the chicken Parmesan sandwich. We got a fresh batch out of the kitchen and the fresh mozz used is also a bonus.
Sorry, not impressed. Will continue my search for a good sandwich spot in the city. That can do both hot and cold subs. (Yeah, I am from philly, we call 'em subs...gotta problem wit dat?)

The wait on a Sat. night seemed to go much more quickly than the 1.5 hour when we checked in around 7:20. Lucky for US! There were others waiting much longer. Best bet go as a party of 2. Resos are only taken for larger parties, I think.
We got the appetizer special called the presse. This was a delicious concoction terrine type of thing with mitake mushrooms, pork knuckle, foie gras and lentils. Also, we tried the grilled octopus and this was also amazing. Then for the mains we did the skillet chicken and the wattle chop. Okay, I now understand all the raving lunatics that want to come to this place. The sauce on the chicken was so amazing, making it one of my favorite chicken dishes ever ordered in a restaurant. Both dishes were so awesome, it really does make you want to slap your momma! Then everything finished off with the guiness chocolate cake. The moist dense cake was topped with this amazing cream cheese icing that just had this amazing addictive quality.
Looking forward to another return for Brunch and may find a reason to stay out there just to come back for dinner...
Dark and yet some how still inviting this West Village spot surprised me with a few good items. The cocktail list was a winner. Tons of crafted libations to make you want more. I had the namesake Daddy O which knocked me on my arse after the 2nd one. My friends all opted for beers while we caught up on old times. The food was pretty good as well. Usual bar food, but the burger was pretty good. Cooked to the perfect medium rare, I actually enjoyed the burger more than expected. I did have only cheese, meat and bun to see how it went for my first time. The others had chicken fingers which looked really good.
Our server was super friendly and on top of everything. Our plates were cleared and waters were filled regularly. Daddy-O, see you again soon...

But I took the fiance here last night after some treacherous (okay, forgive the drama) bridal event at Macy's. On a whim, we both opted for Korean food due to the proximity to Herald Square.
So, we got seated right away at a table for two. Shortly there after, our Hite beers arrived with the typical array of traditional kimchee. These were all pretty delicious. The spicy ones were not so spicy you couldn't eat them and the mild ones were just as yummy. We opted for some bibimbap, a seafood soup and the Galbi (Short Ribs, sliced thin and grilled). Everything was eaten, well at least to the capacity of our waist lines not exploding.
Service was friendly and always available.
Will definitely return for a good Korean meal without a BBQ at the table.

I was also able to try a bite of my fiance's chocolate cupcake with peanut butter icing. This was amazing as well.
2 for $6 is an okay price, but hey, it's not often these days that I get to indulge in a cupcake so I would pay a lot more for these.
