LAVO Italian Restaurant & Nightclub

This is a review for the restaurant.

Even before I start writing, I'm seriously craving their spaghetti and kobe-beef meatballs and garlic bread.

I realize spaghetti and meatballs are kind of a hard dish to screw up (unless you're Denny's), but it is my go-to Italian dish, seeing as I'm lactose intolerant, and dislike vegetables with a passion.

I had an excellent experience dining by myself, drinking my glass of cabernet, making eye contact with the hot guy across the restaurant, and enjoying every bite of my food. What's more, I had ridiculous amount of left over food, which I was able to eat as a midnight snack/breakfast thanks to the handy plastic utensils my waitress got for me.

I'll definitely go back.

Went to the restaurant and the club...I'll start with the restaurant. (BTW, the restaurant gets 4 stars...the club gets 0)

The decor inside was gorgeous, it felt very intimate with low lighting, and tables set waaaay too close together. But trust me, three glasses of wine later, you won't even notice that you can hear every word out of your neighbor's mouth, and presumably they can hear yours.

The food was delicious! I had the spaghetti and kobe meat balls (spaghetti and meatballs, my favorite!) well, the portion was HUGE, and I guess it better be, considering the $34 it costs. Even being the noodle whore that I am, i couldn't even finish half of it. I did manage to eat about two of the giant meatballs though, and they were good.

My friend had the veal parmigiano, and it too was good. Covered in good melted cheese, and spicy marinara.

We also had the fried calamari as appetizer, and it was delicious. Fried just right, with good spicy marinara. They also served us garlic bread, which was to die for, except some bites were overpowered with too much butter (what, such a thing?) and cheese. Otherwise good. I would go back just for the bread (because I'm a bread whore too, remember?)

ON to the club then. So because we ate at the restaurant, they wave the cover, and let you by pass the line. We went back to our rooms for a bit, and went back to the club at around 1. Ha, line pass? No need, there was no line! Anyway, we went in right away, through this maze of a path, and ended up god knows where, and it was just horrific. It was so small and crowded! Also, I was about a foot shorter than everyone there, and I felt like a child (I'm 5'5", btw, I should not be feeling like a child anywhere!)

The music was rap (probably my least favorite), the dance floor was so small and crowded, and I felt like I was suffocating! I think at one point the dj threw money into the crowd- let me specify, he threw DOLLAR bills into the crowd. No way in hell I'm bending over to pick up a freakin DOLLAR in such a crowded dance floor in a dress!

Wicked Spoon Buffet

I really wanted to like Wicked Spoon- the decor is amazing, the food presentation is spectacular, and the hotel it self is absolutely stunning.

But the food...the food is just like any other Las Vegas buffet, except slightly worse? I was shocked myself, I had read such wonderful reviews, and I really looked forward to adding a new buffet to my Vegas must's. Everything was just okay- nothing stood out, and nothing made me go back for seconds. The smoked salmon had a lovely smoked flavor, and the mac and cheese was creamy without being greasy. Even the desert bar let me down- sure the chocolate covered strawberries were great, and the gelato (almond joy) was lovely, but everything else was not worth a second bite!

The free champagne was great, and service seemed good, but I probably would not go back.

Crepes the size of my head filled with nutella and topped with a giant dollop of cream? Yes please!

The only downside is I tried to eat this by myself, and failed. Definitely for two...or three.

A bit on the pricey side, but definitely better than the thing they called crepe at Mon Ami Gabi.

I enjoyed myself so much at this restaurant, I went there for 3 meals (2 dinners and 1 lunch) during my 4 day-3 night stay. The bartenders, waiters, waitresses, and the random workers filling my water glass and bringing my bread were lovely people! The hostess not so much.

The food was kind of hit or miss- I loved the steak and frites (au poivres and bordelaise), the salmon (I'm not a fish fan, but it came on a lovely bed of mashed potatoes, pearl onions, and roasted garlic), champagne, and belvedere martini (alcohol is food, sure).

I was not so fond of- banana fosters crepe (the crepe was a little rubbery, bananas were raw, and it was all covered in melted brown sugar, altogether it could have been much, much better), fish and frites (the pan fried fish lacked seasoning, and it had a weird texture), creme brulee (it had too much burnt taste).

The reason why I give it four stars, is because when you're sitting on the patio sipping champagne, watching the ridiculous tourists do their ridiculous tourists things, with the Bellagio fountain dancing serenely to Con Te Partiro across the street, you can't help but love your life. Well, my life. I had a lovely experience, and oftentimes in Vegas, that is what you pay for- the experience.

I had the lamb burger, it was very juicy! But I didn't think it was anything spectacular. I sat at the bar (side bar: when I walked up to the hostess and said it was for one, she asked if I wanted to sit at the bar instead. At the time I did want to sit at the bar, so I take no offense, but solo diners want to sit at tables too!), and the bartender/waitress wasn't the friendliest person ever, but I survived. I'd probably much rather go to BLT at Mirage, or In-N-Out instead.

Also, there was an older (40-50 ish) woman there, who clearly must have kids, because she apologized after every curse word she loudly yelled at the football game on the giant screen.

The sink was full to the brim with dishes, so my roomie and I decided on take-out. After much searching we found Chen's Chinese- which delivers. We ordered the dinner combo with hot and sour soup and sweet and sour pork. And a side of lo-mein.

They said it would take about forty-five minutes to deliver, and the delivery guy came at exactly forty-five minutes. It was amazing. When we saw the portions, we were flabbergasted- there was so much food! And all for about $17!

The sweet and sour pork was not that great, and neither was the fried rice, but the lo-mein and soup was so good! And there is so much left over, we have enough for two more meals, probably.

I'm sure I should be giving them less stars, because it wasn't the best food ever, but I'm such a noodle whore, and the lo-mein totally hit my noodle crazing spot. I would go back fo sho.

Had their burgers for second time tonight. It was good!

The first time I went with my roommate, we both got combo #1- BIG MISTAKE, only because it's way too much food. Is there such thing as too much fries and too much hamburger? Yes, apparently so. And I'm not some teeny stick of a girl who eats like a bird. I mean, I practically inhale french fries.

The second time, we decided to share combo #1- perfect. Well, we still had left over fries, and I was absolutely full from the half cheeseburger.

Onto the food now- it is delicious! A nice thick meaty patty with a good layer of melted cheese. YUM! Get the seasoned fries, the regular fries are a little boring.

It's in walking distance from my apt, so I pretend all those calories have been worked off.

I was this close to a moving, growling, feathery baby t-rex. Yes, feathery. They have this dinosaur encounter thing, and it was a big puppet roving around and looking at us like we were lunch. And yes, I was definitely entertained for the whole five minute show.

Anyway, I've been to the science center so many times, but never thought to come here! Well, so I went, and then came back. It wasn't nearly as interesting as the science museum.

BUT, it was a good way to kill two hours or so. Looking at all those skeletons of animals, some that still exist, and some that don't anymore, and looking at stuffed animals, of some that still exist, and some that don't exist, is fun, but only for so long. Plus you have to walk the whole time. AND it was really cold in some of the rooms (and now, I knew this, so I took a sweater, but my fingers were still cold)

I don't foresee myself going back for another year or five, but I think it is definitely worth a visit.

I feel like I've rambled enough now.

I think I want to live here...correction- I KNOW I want to live here.

Registering, even on a Monday afternoon was CROWDED! And it was slow. The woman behind the desk took my cell phone number, and said hopefully they can get us a room in an hour. FORTY minutes later, I got a call saying the room was ready...on the 33rd floor. This is why you should be nice to everyone.

anyway, we were on the 33rd floor, facing the strip. It was a gorgeous view. And at night, it was even better! I was very entertained by the motorized drapes, perfect for lazy like me.

the room and hall colors, like everyone else commented, is this weird burnt orange sort of color. I'll get over it though, because everything else was just that gorgeous. I absolutely loved the bathroom, which was HUGE. see, I don't really care about the actual room being that big, because honestly, how much time do you spend in your room in Vegas? but having a big bathroom just makes everything better! :D

The pool was beautiful. The adults only area was especially nice, when there were noisy splashing children in the other pool. Of course the topless pool is not complete without the horny boys (who probably just turned 21), nervously sitting on the edge of the pool, looking at my direction every minute or so to see if I would take my top off. (I was about the only person there...so...yeah...not being conceited here, just the truth)

I just absolutely loved everything- the decor at the casino level, the row of shops I can't afford to shop at, the pretentious people walking about with their noses in the air. I loved it all.
