Ahhh I hate giving low ratings on any establishment but I didn't like the food here at all =/.  I'm too spoiled by SWSH and California Shabu Shabu in Socal from the quality of the meats to the dipping sauces.  I didn't like the peanut sauce here at all.  And I wasn't too crazy about any of the meats.  The only thing that I really liked here was the all you can drink sake.  Sorry Shabu House.  =/

I LOVE SWSH!  I wasn't a fan of Shabu Shabu until now.  People are constantly comparing SWSH to California Shabu Shabu and they should rightfully so.  I like both but there's something about SWSH that draws me to them more and the thing is... I live 2 min away from California Shabu Shabu.  I'm not sure if it's because I think the meat tastes better or I just really love their peanut sauce but I'm so satisfied after dining there.  Anyways.. I'm just going to echo most of the reviews here.  It's legit.  Def love this place!

This place is a new discovery for me!  I knew I was in the right place when everyone looked at me like WTF are you doing here?  I ordered the lomo sandwich and my goodness... the best 5 bucks I've spent!  Shredded pork marinated in chorizo sauce (I think) with slices of onion, avocado, tomato and mayo.  YUMS!  I must try the fresas con crema next!  I'm a total fan!

I am one of those people that just go with what's safe with my hair.  Not until a year ago did I start to change things up for new refreshing looks.

Just this evening I came into Christophe with only wanting to take an inch off then add a few layers for some more body and style.  I showed stylist Lindsey Wang that I wanted Kim Kardashian's hairstyle.  During my consultation Lindsey suggested to take off 4-5 inches to achieve the Kim Kardashian look and it will give my hair more bounce, volume, and body.  I was very hesitant but the owner vouched for her that it would look good.  So I just gave in and let her do what she thought was best.

The result: LOVE IT!  Not only did she gave me Kim Kardashian haircut that I wanted but this is the very first time I absolutely loved how it was styled after the cut.  I'm so use to being disappointed only to go home and restyle it the way I really like it.  Not this time.  I looked in the mirror and thought that I looked pretty damn good!  Lol.

THANK YOU Lindsey!  You are the only one that managed to change my old ways and I'm loving it!

OC Poultry & Rotisserie Market

Categories: Sandwiches, Grocery, Vietnamese

Update - 2/16/2012
Ok after getting over the whole yummy shock factor when I was in ambrosia bliss I know exactly why this place makes seriously delicious Vietnamese sandwiches.

The bread: It doesn't tear up the inside of your mouth like most banh mis.  It's toasted just enough to have a crisp to it.

From order #1 - The rotisserie chicken: They specialize in rotisserie chicken there so the chicken is really soft and juicy with a lot of flavor.

The veggies: It's evenly dispersed and not thrown in there with haste.

Sauces: Ok here's the part where I took notice.  They don't over slather their sandwiches with mayo or pate bc they don't need to!  My other favorite banh mi place is Banh Mi Cali and they put a lot of mayo in there.  I like it fatty like that but it was quite impressive that OC Poultry & Rotisserie Market put in only what was needed.  I honestly barely detected any actually which makes this sandwich not dependent on the mayo.  Bravo!

It's 9 inches long.  The bread that is!!  So it's a good amount of yumminess.

I love this place so much I had to break it down like that bc it's so good!  I will keep coming back and eventually try all of their sandwiches.

Holy moly!  Talk about a total hidden gem!  I would not have found this place if I didn't have to deliver a book to one of my customers.  When I came with the only intention of dropping off the book, I noticed that it was a Vietnamese deli/shop.  I didn't have anything to eat yet so why not get a sandwich to go for breakfast/lunch.

After I handed the book over to what seems to be the owner, he suggested that I order the #1 Vietnamese sandwich with ga roti (otisserie chicken) with a fried egg.  MY.  LORD.  It was SO good.  This is my new favorite banh mi shop.  I'm seriously not exaggerating.  I didn't even had to ask for extra pate to kick up the yum factor.  The best way I can describe the sandwich was that it was made with love because it had full body flavor that hit all of the tastebuds in my mouth.

I am for sure coming back for more and spreading the word on this hidden gem.  I swear.. things happen for a reason.  I'm a great believer in that.  The stars aligned for me to sell that book, forget to package it along with the other books purchased, had to personally deliver the it, and stumble upon what is now my favorite Vietnamese sandwich shop.  It was meant to be.

Gatten Sushi

I'm a bit obsessed with Gatten Sushi right now bc it's cheap and I can order many orders of uni and fatty tuna without it being ridic expensive!

This ain't Ohshima but considering the price point it's pretty damn good.  I like this place much more than the one in Rowland Heights bc the nigori is warm which is soooooo important in sushi besides the (obvious) quality in fish.

I don't really pick up dishes from the conveyor belt.  I always order:

Uni
Otoro salmon
Seared salmon
Very fatty tuna
Sweet shrimp
Baked scallops roll

I seriously can eat these over and over and OVER.  For $2 per plate I am stuffed around the 10th dish or so.  That comes out to be less than $30 with tax and tip.  That's a pretty damn good deal.  I'm a fan!

Pho Red Chopsticks

I strayed and cheated on you, Pho Olivia.  Pho Red Chopsticks is newer, younger, and I can't lie... yummier.  I'm sorry.

Situated right across from Chomps, it can be easily missed.  I arrived during the lunch hour and the restaurant was empty.  I look over at Chomps and it was a full house.  I hope this place doesn't suck.

Atmosphere:
The walls are red as well as their chopsticks.  It has a very young vibe that's perfect for the Cal State Fullerton-ers to come for some pho.

Food:
They serve Korean food with the bulgolgi and pancake, Vietnamese food with the pho and vermicelli, and Chinese food with the pot stickers.  There's some fusion going on too with the vermicelli and bulgolgi.  I just had 2 items there:

Pot stickers: These were great.  Very garlicky and it had a soy sauce/green onion sauce to dip it in.  I also dip it in sriracha for a spicy kick.

Pho dac biet: The way I determine if the pho is good is the broth.  Taste test: it passed!  It was full body in flavor and wasn't too sweet.  Pho Olivia isn't as full body in flavor as this.

I was pretty satisfied with this lunch.  I thought everything tasted very good.  I look over Chomps and thought... you guys have no idea how much better Pho Red Chopsticks is.  Like SO much better.  (I'm not a fan of Chomps whatsoever sorry.)

To Asian patrons: the pho is legit here.

To non-Asian patrons: this is how pho should taste like.

Moodaepo II

Most Korean BBQ's are very similar to me with not much of a difference in deviation so this review will be very environment focused.

A Korean BBQ joint that looks like a nightclub?  Hey... it works.  This place undeniably attracts a plethora of birthday celebrations.  Whether you're waiting for your table or you're already grilling your meats, the what seems to be music spun by a DJ (you can see a DJ booth upstairs) is constantly interrupted by birthday tunes that sounds like an Asian version of an American nursery song that only sings "Happy birthday" over and over again.  The LED televisions display images of the unsuspected birthday people from hidden cameras zooming in on their surprised faces.  At first it's cute, but after 4-5 rounds of it, the Korean accented birthday melody gets pretty annoying.

Expectations:
This place is PACKED like a hot spot in Hollywood.  My large party had reservations and still waited over an hour to be seated.

The food:
All of the food from the meats to the sides were just like any other KBBQ joint.   I do think that Shik Do Rak is better because of some of the sides they give that Moodaepo didn't have.  Shik also has lemon juice to make the dipping sauces to taste so much better and Moodaepo didn't have it.

I actually liked the intestines the most out of all the proteins.  It was so soft after it was grilled.

Service:
The waiters change the grill a lot.  For a really packed house the service was swift.

This place is unique for KBBQ where it's young and fresh with the upbeat top 40's and house/trance music.  A good place to have a birthday dinner but be fair warned that you can wait a long while before being seated even with reservations.

Ohshima Japanese Cuisine

Update - 1/14/2012
This place deserves another 5 star review from me bc it's never a bad dining experience!  Of course, you would HAVE TO sit at the bar for the omakase.  Sitting at the table and at the bar is such a huge difference.  The nigori cools down by the time it gets to your table!  Avoid that.

The omakase is so good here that I want to dine here every week.  Ok.. I mean every other day?  Man I LOVE this place so much!  When I tell the sushi chef I want the maximal 12 rolls I also request albacore, uni, and cod.

Uni is one of my most favorite things to eat ... ever.... but Ohshima has accomplished to get me to love COD more.  Omfg the cod.  I literally close my eyes and just savor every bit of it.  It's fucken delicious.

I usually always order animo aka monk liver fish aka foie gras of the sea.  Other sushi that were standouts were the cherry salmon and sea bream.  You know what though?  Every effin sushi here is delicious.  The omakase is definitely filled with exotic fish.  Sigh love it!  Too much..

Ok it's been a week.  I'm craving it again!  This place is my weakness.

I was never a diehard fan of sushi till now.  Good lord this place is good.  I'vde been ordering the wrong stuff and eating sushi incorrectly this whole time!  I use to order the most unsavory sashimi dipping it in wasabi soy sauce while avoiding sushi because I thought the rice would hinder the taste of the raw fish.  Uh WRONG!

I sat at the bar for the omakase experience.  The chef was so kind to cut each piece of sushi in half for easier bites.  We had sushi that was giant clam to yellowfin tuna to toro to black cod to uni.  I think he purposely ordered them a certain way because it got better and better.

My favorites were the toro, black cod and of course... the uni.  My god the uni was ridic.  So creamy and melted im my mouth.  On the side I ordered the monk liver fish.  The BEST ever.  It was so silky.  A must order when you dine here.

Thank you bf for taking me here!  I LOVE sushi now!  You may take me to Urasawa now since I can appreciate sushi lol.

Gatten Sushi

This place is the quick fix for your sushi craving minus the pricey tab.

$2-$3 a plate for sushi no matter what it is will have me coming back for more bc I have crazy sushi cravings all the time and this does the trick to curbing it.  I would say the following sushi items that I have tried thus far were good:

Scallops roll: This was my absolute favorite bc they torch the sushi role so the nigori is warmed up and it's nice and flavory.

Seared salmon: I'm not a huge salmon fan... cooked and the sushi itself unless it's cherry salmon, fatty salmon, etc.  So with that said I usually avoid salmon sushi since I like more of the exotic fishes but the seared salmon was not too bad.  I liked it.  Again, the top part of the salmon is torched and warms it up a little.

Fatty tuna: Yeah they have it here for $2 one piece.

Uni: Unniiii.. can it ever be bad?

If only the nigori was warm.  That would take this place from yeah it's not too bad to pretty good!  Even though I gave this place a 3 I would still come back over and over again only because it's so inexpensive and it has some of the items that I crave.  Warm up your nigori for the sushi, Gatten!
