Burlap was my first Brian Malarkey experience, and I must say I'm looking forward to trying more at Gingham and Searsucker!

We decided to do a whole bunch of small plates instead of ordering apps and entrees. In no particular order...

Smoke & Mirrors: a fruity fun fire-lit good time! Delicious cocktail - serves 2-3. It's worth a try if you have some fun friends with you. http://www.yelp.com/bi...

Carb-free Crab Cake: Get this. Get this now. Cylindrical carb-free crab deliciousness. What's better than a crab cake that's ALLLLLLL crab? The tobasco caviar was also a nice touch. http://www.yelp.com/bi...

Hamachi + Jalapeno: So simple and SO delicious. Must have for any crudo fan! The onion ponzu sauce sets it off.

Spicy Tuna + Crispy Rice: Also get this now. Love the crunchy sticky texture of the rice. I thought the spicy mayo sauce on top was a bit much, but great and worth a try nonetheless.http://www.yelp.com/bi...

Shrimp + Grits: If you've ever read any of my Yelp reviews, you know how I feel about a perfectly poached egg... and what's on top of this? A perfectly poached runny egg. The shrimp were delicious... and although the grits were a bit cold once I got to them, they were still great. http://www.yelp.com/bi...

Short Ribs: GET THIS NOW. Just... go. get it. http://www.yelp.com/bi...

Pork Belly Sandwiches: If you've ever had pork belly in a steamed bun, this is it. Nothing super special, but good flavors. http://www.yelp.com/bi...

Foie Gras + Blackberry Marmalade: We all loved the foie, but the weird little crispy but not crispy steamed bun it was on top off almost ruined the entire dish. And such a pretty dish it is! Probably the best plated of the night. We told our waiter that they need to get rid of the weird crispy steamed bun thing. I hope they listen. It just doesn't have a place in this dish. http://www.yelp.com/bi...

Overall - it's a great looking place. Very crowded on a Wednesday night, too - make a reservation. Would I come back? Yes! I still need to try the entrees.

It's been quite a while since a new restaurant moved me enough to even make the effort to write a Yelp review... but Bahn Thai did it!

I'm now obsessed. It's only a matter of time before they recognize my number on the caller ID and start my order before I place it.

I had the drunken noodles (delectable!) and a taste of my friend's panang with chicken. Holy Panang!!!!! I was honestly upset that I didn't order the panang curry, it was so delicious!

SO SO SO happy to have this addition to the hood, within walking distance nonetheless!  Can't wait to try everything else.

I came here in search of chicken wings that could compare to those at Tina's on 54th (don't you judge me!). Unfortunately, my wing basket came overcooked, bordering on burnt. My fries were unseasoned, even though they gave me the option of seasoned or unseasoned and i said "seasoned, please."

But, the fish is good. I agree with jeff l., seems like this place seems hit or miss. A lady came in while I was waiting for my order to return her undercooked chicken. Seems they can't find a happy medium between overcooked and undercooked.

3 stars because, if my chicken wasn't bordering on burnt and my fries were actually seasoned., I'm sure my meal would have been delicious. I'm willing to give them another try.

I love this place. The Lamb Doner (or, as my girl Bri calls it, the "elegant burrito") is fantastically fantastic. Spicy with Fries is the way to go.

Also delicious - the cucumber and dill salad. It's a nice, cool refreshing bite while eating a spicy hot doner.

I haven't tried anything else on the menu yet, but anything with that lamb is delicious!

Holy mother son of a ... !!!! These cupcakes!!!11!!

I happened to stop by the Miho Gastrotruck today and saw the cutest little containers of cupcakes in the window. I said to myself..."That. I want that. I want two of that because I know I'm going to want to share this, but even moreso, I know that I'm gonna want one all to myself." So one I gave away, and one I saved for later.

And sure enough... it was a super delicious cupcake. I got the Meyer Lemon Curd Cupcake: vanilla cake, meyer lemon curd, vanilla cream cheese frosting. And all organic, local and sustainable! How nice is that?

I'm not sure where else they sell these little baby cakes of awesomeness, but I hope to find them in more places soon.  Not that I mind going to Miho to get them.

My Yelpy Friends, please ignore these little bogus 1 star reviews for wobbly tables and plastic forks n' shit. Just... stop the madness and eat the food.

Sophie alone is enough to give this place 4 stars. She's kind of amazing. Warm, inviting, like going to grandmas to get some awesome lamb.

Can we PLEASE talk about the lamb? First of all, it tastes like it was marinated in love and then she put her foot in it. Amazeballs. Seasoned well, tender morsels of lamby love.

The tzatziki is, by far, the best tzatziki I've ever had ever in the history of all things ever. It's amazing. I buy it a big ol' container of it and get down with some toasted pita bread.

I wish I could dip my life in her tzatziki.

That's all you need (and the lamb).

The baklava is also great. Honestly though, I can't get anything here but the lamb plate or the lamb sandwich. I'm HOOKED.

Also, she makes an excellent greek salad! I've never actually been a fan of greek salad until I had Sophie's dressing. I wish they carried it as costco so I could buy a vat of it and pour it on everything, it's so good!

Warning - the lamb runs out rather quickly. So if you want it on a Friday or Saturday and you can't get there early, I highly recommend you call ahead and have her set some aside. She's awesome like that.

Thank you, Yelp, for once again letting me know that working in the Miramar/Mira Mesa area doesn't always mean Mexican, Thai, Chick Fil A or Filipino food for lunch.

This place is a little hard to find, there's hardly any signage around to let you know where it's at, but FIND IT.

Here's what I love:

Tri-Tip Sandwich - Lawd, this thing is tasty. The tri-tip is incredibly moist and flavorful. I'm not quite sure if it's smoked or lightly smoked or just chucked in the oven for a few days... and frankly I don't care, just KEEP MAKING IT.

Mac & Cheese - Unbelievably creamy. I purposefully won't eat my entire side of mac and cheeese, just so I can take it home and eat it later. Also, the sandwich is so big that I can't finish all the sides I order anyway. And (!!!!) the sides are only $1!

Ranch Beans & BBQ Beans - Ranch beans = more savory, BBQ beans = sweeter baked type bean. Both equally delicious.

Chili - OMG, the chili. Amazeballs. The last time I was there, Mikee ordered a side of chili and a side of mac and cheese, to which the owner (i think) responded: "Would you like the chili ON TOP of the mac & cheese? That's how we like it." To which we responded: SHIT YES.

Even though they're only open from 11-2, it's worth planning your day around getting in there. Fortunately for me, it's about a 4 minute drive from my office.

I feel so full of win right now.

Words cannot describe the joy I feel when I enter this shop. Pure joy and bliss, really.

If you've ever driven up to LA to get Portos (what... am I the only person that drives from San Diego to LA to get pastries?), Azucar is the next best thing to driving 2 hours for a ham croquette.

Let's start with the food - all of the sandwiches are legit and delicious. My personal favorite is the Havana - turkey, cream cheese, guava marmalade. I was so hooked the first time I had this sandwich that I immediately went to the grocery store and tried to buy all the ingredients to replicate it. Unfortunately, there's something in that guava marmalade (crack, i suspect) that made my at-home version not as awesome, so just go get it there.

Honorable sandwich mentions for the Berto (serrano ham, manchego cheese, arugula) and the more traditional Cuban. Both very delicious.

Now, the desserts. This is my go-to place for "let me bring someone something delicious when I go to their house without paying Extraordinary Dessert prices". I've recently become addicted to coconut, and the Artemisa (rum cake, coconut custard, pineapple) is not to be missed. Also on the list of super awesome things to get at Azucar is the Pretzel Perfecto. If Take 5 is your favorite candy bar (as it should be) then the Pretzel Perfecto is right up your alley.

I love this place. Viva Azucar!

THIS: GET THE WHOOPIE PIE.

I don't know how long they've had them available or how long they're going to have them available, sweet lawd they are delciousness. Pick 'em up right @ the counter when you place your order.

PS: A frozen whoopie pie is a beautiful thing.
