Bombay Wraps

Just had the Chicken Reshmi and Chicken Tikka wraps for lunch.  The Tikka (spicy) is good, but not that spicy.  The Reshmi is kinda blah.  I really want to like them.  They do have potential to get repeat business from me.  But what killed them is their value.  Let me explain.  These wraps are tiny!  They're like the size of a Taco Bell soft taco, except these wraps cost $4 each!  This is great if you're a lady watching her figure.  But if you're a moderately hungry guy, you'll need like 3 or 4 of these plus a drink to fill you up.  They need to either lower their prices or increase the size of the wraps to make me a repeat customer.

For my wedding, I went to Formally Modern Tuxdeo for my tuxedo needs.  The place is spacious and nice.  Alex was great with the tux selection and fitting for my entire groom's party and my little 7 year old son.  Picking up and returning the tuxedo's went off without a hitch.  Their tuxedo's looked great and fit great, IMO.  I liked them so much that I'm going back there to get another tux for an upcoming Black Tie event!

A few months ago, I booked (with Clare) 2 stretch limos for my wedding.  She was very pleasant and responsive to work with.  Within minutes, confirmations were delivered to my email.  Change in plans from my side were met with professional response and prompt changes to my reservations.

On the day of the wedding, both limos showed up at separate locations promptly on time.  The drivers were clean looking, professional, and very nice.  Their limos were clean, well detailed, and comfortable for my party as well as my bride's wedding party.

After the ceremony, one limo drove our parents back to their hotels and the wedding party around Chicago to our photo locations.  The driver knew exactly where to go and how to get there quickly.

My wife and I are very very pleased with the service and quality from Metro Limo on our very special day!!!  Thank you Metropolitan Limousines!!!

Update - 11/21/2011
2 weeks ago, I had my wedding rehearsal dinner in one of Gibson's private dining rooms.  We had about 16 people including 3 little kids.

I must say that working with Lynette to plan for the dinner was great!  She was responsive and accommodating.  On the evening of the event, Gibson's private dining staff was top-notch.  They were attentive and very very pleasant to work with.

The food was excellent.  From the kids' slider burgers and chicken fingers, to the crab and giant prawn cocktail appetizers, to the steaks, sides and massive deserts, everything was perfectly cooked and prepared to our liking.

I have nothing but high praise for Gibson's class act in the regular restaurant and now for their private dining experience as well.  Kudos Gibson's!  You are the best Steak House in Chicago!!!

High end steakhouses are usually not my style, but when my fiance offered to take me to Gibson's, I'm not going to turn that down.  We had reservations for 7pm on a Tue nite.  Got there at 7 and the place was packed!  It took them 20 minutes before we could sit down.  The manager stopped by with a plate of giant shrimp cocktail and avocado crab meat appetizer to apologize for the long wait.  WOW!  Now that is classy!

I ordered the WR Chicago Cut medium-rare and requested extra salt/seasoning on it.  My fiance had the 14oz filet mignon medium-rare.  I was bummed to find out the double baked potato had cream and cheese in it (I'm lactose intolerant).  So we got the Sauteed Spinach and Mushrooms side.  The steaks came out pretty fast.  Both were perfectly done to medium-rare.  Mine was perfectly seasoned as I requested.  My fiance's was covered in cracked peppercorn and was cooked exactly the way she liked it.  We were not disappointed with the quality of our steaks.  They were delicious!  The side was good too although I did not have much of that bc I was busy devouring my savory steak.  Nom Nom!

For desert, we got a peach pie ala mode.  Delicious and big enough to share between 2 or 3 people.  The table next to us (7 big burly business men) ordered the cake.  OMG!  That thing is ridiculously HUGE!!  It could easily be shared between 8 people.

Waiter was great!  Pleasant, attentive, funny but not intrusive.  Great service all around!  We love the service and food so much that we're going to book our wedding rehearsal dinner there.

Tip: Guys, definitely wear nice slacks/pants and a sport jacket at a minimum.  Tie not needed.  Jeans, polo shirt, business casual seems too casual at this restaurant.

Golden Steer Steakhouse

My fiance and I met a friend who suggested trying Golden Steer out.  It was a Saturday nite and we had reservations...

Even then, we waited about 30 minutes after check-in for a table.  The place is like grandma's basement.   It's small.   It's dark.  And it's noisy.  But damn grandma, you serve up some good prime rib!!!  Their waitresses are no-nonsense.  I appreciate that.  I'm not there to make friends or chit-chat, I'm there to be a carnivore, to devour some meat!

I ordered their Prime Rib.  Perfectly done to a medium-rare with a salty savory seasoning on the outer layer.  That's a good prime rib!  You go grandma!  Do I dare say that's the best prime rib I've ever had? and I've had several cow's worth of prime ribs over the years.  But wait, there's more!  The meal came with their famous French Onion soup.  I'm lactose intolerant so did not have the cheese, but it smelled really good in my fiance's soup.  Even without the cheese, the soup was still freakin' tasty!  But wait, there's more!  The meal also came with a salad, but before you go ordering it, let's think about this for a second...  are you  there to eat a salad or are you there to get some giant chunk of meat?  Exactly, skip the salad.  Save room for the meaty goodness that's about to come out from the kitchen.

So yeah, grandma's basement.  Loud.  Dark.  Small.  Old 70's decor.  Damn fine piece of prime rib anywhere!  Looking forward to visiting gramp's basement again soon!

I came here yesterday for dinner with my fiance.  She had been here before with friends and liked it.  The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated.  The waiter was very pleasant, spoke good English, and very polite.

We ordered the beef noodle soup, steamed soup dumplings, and pan fried bao.  Beef noodle soup was good with a savory, garlicky broth.  Be aware that the noodles are thick and doughy.  The steamed soup dumplings are ok but I wish they were a little bit hotter.  Ours was just luke-warm.

The pan fried bao's didn't come.  When we were almost finished with our food, the waiter stopped by to say that it normally takes 25-30 to make (odd since my fiance said that they came out quickly last time she was there).  So we waited for another 20 minutes, then the waiter came back to say that the cook forgot to make them for us.  We said, fine, just give us the bill.  While we were paying, we saw them serve the fried bao's to another table.  What. The. Heck?

2-stars for the clean restaurant and good beef noodle soup.

Just had their Sultan Sandwich for lunch.  It is MMMmmm  mmmm good!  Ironically enough, this Sultan Sandwich destroys Sultan's Market's chicken shawerma sandwhich.  Here, the chicken, humus, tomato/cuc salad with a spicy dressing are all stuffed into a long pita.  Chicken has a great flavor, the humus was hummussy, and the dressing was zingy!  If I was Charlie Sheen, I'd say "WINNING!!"  But I'm not, so I'll just say, "Yay! I'm a fan."

Go 4 Food should be renamed to Come 4 Yummy Delicious Food.  Came here tonite bc of all the good Yelp reviews and sure enough you guys have not steered me wrong yet.

The place is small and just off the main Chinatown strip.  It is clean and the hostess was super nice.  Service was prompt and never intrusive.  We enjoyed dinner in a modern, albeit fairly plain, restaurant.

My GF and I got fried wontons.  Deep fried = yummy!  Hot and Sour Soup came in a big bowl enough for 4 people.  It is a good blend of zing, sour, and savory flavors.  The Shrimp with Salted Egg Yolk and Salt & Pepper Pork chops were plentiful and also delicious.  I choose the shrimps to have shells and heads instead of peeled.  Beware the squirting headjuice if you break the head off.  Bite the head and it'll gush shrimpy heady goodness.  While not for everyone, the fans of this will appreciate the flavors.  What a great find Yelpers!

I got a pastrami on rye for lunch from here today.  It's a yummy pastrami sandwich.  The pastrami is perfectly seasoned and savory.  However, the sandwich is quite small.  A whole sandwich is kinda like the size of half at other places.  The price is steep at almost $9 which only included 2 sticks of pickles.  If it was cheaper, I would have given this place a 4 or 5 stars.  For another $1.50 (which will make it a $10.50 sandwich, they'll give you more meat.  How much more?  I don't know...)  But for $10.50, I want some chips, a drink, a cookie and maybe a neck-rub to be included.

I got take out from here for lunch.  I was quite surprised at the Mongolian Beef.  It's "different".  It's more like stir-fry beef with veggies and a light sprinkle of crunchy noodles.  The beef is over cooked and chewy.  There's a light watery sauce with it too.   I have never ever seen Mongolian Beef done this way before.  I don't like it.

The chicken Tom Yum soup was really blah without personality right out of the container.  You have to add the red chili lime sauce (included in my order) to the soup to make it more sour and spicy.  With the sauce added, the soup is actually tasty.

Another odd thing.  I had to order rice separately from the entrée.  What's up with that?

I wish I could rate this place more than 2, but "meh.  I've experienced better."
