i went here for a to-go-dinner with my mom last night. overall, we had good, fast mexican food (enchilada plate for me which was great, fajita plate for my mom, which she also liked), but i have just a couple of small gripes.
first, we were served by a surly teenage boy. i don't know if he was working there against his will or anything, but geez! no need for the surly-ness.
and - we happily took our bag of goodness home without checking the contents, only to find that we were denied our guacamole that we ordered for almost $5. very sad. i mean, yes, we took a lot of salsa from the salsa bar, but don't deny us our guac!!

i'm not sure what the fabulous reviews are about... the sandwiches are good here (6.95 for an open faced veggie melt there this week), but this is the . . . slowest . . . lunch . . . place . . . EVER.
i mean, 20 minutes for one hot and one cold sandwich, and the place is almost empty? that's just silly.
next time - i'll be calling my order in.

mmmmm.. i've been coming here since the place opened in may, and am a big fan.
the hubby and i usually get various things off the dinner menu (9.95 = awesome), but this week when we went, we spiced it up with getting food of the specials menu... red sea bass for me (good, but looked nothing like the picture) and some crispy-basil-duck thing for him, which he loved.
good food, good prices. my only complaint - almost five months in and still no beer/wine license?? come on...

i really wanted to like village pizza & grill, as i loved the lunch pizza slices at village bakery. but, it wasn't meant to be...
the food: quite average. my husband and i split a pizza, with two different kinds, and both were just okay. my spinach half with white / garlic sauce was way too garlicky.. the house salad was fine, bread was fine. but, nothing special, and the pizzas were a few dollars more expensive than the gourmet pizza you can get at places like paesanos.
service: very slow, on the inept side.. it took a half hour for my husband to get his first beer, and another 15 minutes after asking for him to get his second... and the bar was out of at least 2 beers that we had asked for.
the plusses: nice atmosphere, and sitting on the porch was nice.
overall though, ehhhh.... it shouldn't take 2 hours for a pizza and beer dinner, even with a large group.

for what i like, celia's is PERFECT. when i lived within walking distance, i came to celia's happy hour all the time - with my husband, with friends, with co-workers. now, we come a little less frequently, but are happy with it everytime.
i think i've eaten in the restaurant once - it is all about the bar area. one of the best happy hours in the area - from 3-6 monday through friday, if you have a drink in front of you, you get a free appetizer plate with quesadilla, nachos, and chimichanguitas. what's not to love?? and, small, but strong margaritas and beer deals as well...
good food off the a ala carte menu as well - i'm especially a big fan of the avocado tostada... the big reason for the 5 star review though = the staff... it's been awhile since i was a regular here, and am still treated like one - visiting reminds me how awesome maria and rodrigo are!!

i went this saturday night and didn't have any of the problems other people mentioned... we showed up early (before 9), and the place was pretty much empty - a great way to start a night with friends.
at $4.50 per round (gin & soda for me, beer for the husband), we could afford several rounds to help make the evening entertaining. and, we had friends meet us, and enjoyed all the games: shuffleboard, pool, and buck hunter. good times =)

mmm.... my mom and i walked into Acaxutla after wandering the mission looking for somewhere interesting to eat. we chose this place as neither of us had ever had Guatemalan food.
AWESOME lunch... i'm a pescatarian, and there were more than enough on the menu that i could eat, although most of the menu wasn't translated into english...
to share, for a little over $30, we had more than enough yummy food - some of the best ceviche tostadas i've ever had, these cool open face Guatemalan enchiladas (made especially vegetarian for us), and the BEST soup ever - Sopa de Camarones, which had fabulous tomato-y broth and lots of shrimp. the cook even took the time to give my mom the recipe =)

mmm.. definitely a good meal, and the cheapest we had on our kauai trip... i had the special (i forget the name, but it had a salmon pattie and their lobster salad), and my husband and the "crimp" (crab and shrimp).
minus one star for the long wait and the smallish portion for the price - no chips or sides included. BUT, again, yummy sandwiches, and we'd definitely go back.

AWESOME shave ice on our hawaii vacation... my husband and i shared the "regular" colada special, which was a yummy blend of ice cream and shave ice.
beyond the yummy goodness though, our visit was HILARIOUS. the staff working at the time was two teenagers, obviously in control of the musical soundtrack... the lyrics to one song we were treated to included treats like "how many b*tches in the club wanna go" and other choice references like chewing on some non-public areas like a "piece of bubblegum." we were cracking up, but i'm guessing that the older people ahead of us weren't... it made the visit memorable!

not only did they fix the glass in 45 minutes, but the technician (whose name i didn't catch, but he wears a bow tie) put my dash back together and made sure everything works - for free! very nice - there are still cracks where the dash was torn, but i can live with that, and won't have to spend extra going to a repair shop. a huge help... very good service, and i highly recommend this tech.
