Maxwell's Bar & Restaurant

Had brunch there, ordered Steak and eggs.
I love this place for being a genuine and iconic bar and eatery in Hoboken. The setting is great, bright on the outer ring by the windows and dark with true vibe of and old bar in the inner section. Nicely lighted, good selection of drinks but the food was much to be desired. The service was prompt and very civil for a bar.The skimpy serving with dried and tough meat, makes me wish Arthur's quality. So I'll come to Maxwell for drinks and concert.

Sometime stopped by this kitschy place for meal on the way home from the Jersey Shore. Not the best BBQ, but not bad either. Like their selection on the salad bar and the humongous strawberry pie they seems to be very proud of. The place is fully decked with piggy stuff, which according to one of the staff, the owner has collected over the 20 years in business.

Had dinner here with a group of people. We had very lively conversation and had a great time. The place is nice, the staff are very friendly and courteous. Service was great, except for the overtly efficient table bus, who wants to take my half full salad plate away.
Jolie's a cute place, nice setting with a large room at the back, decorated nicely with huge paintings. I think the had the music pretty loud that night, and it seems it correlate with the dimming of the light. The dimmer the light the louder the music. At one point we had to scream to hear each other.
The food was OK, I love my Poire Rotie A L' Epoisse salad, (roasted bosc pear with Époisses cheese, topped with baby mesclun truffle essence and toasted almond) The dressing is to die for. My entre, Filet De Bar Grille A La Courge Et Au Mails (grilled wild striped bass over roasted acorn squash and served with sweet corn & shrimp sauce) was under whelming. Worst of all was the Cafe au lait, I swear there were no coffee in there.
I must say, I will give it another try.

Kambi Ramen House

I have returned few times now and found that the thin noodles at this place is better than the thick kinds. I started to like them a lot. I am a fan now. I also like the live Jazz music behind me. Quite a feat to get an acoustic bass, a drum and keyboard in that place, but the results is very intimate.

I was on my way to Setagaya Ramen for lunch, walking on 14st when I saw this Ramen house. The interior was nice, bright and new. The lay out very similar to setagaya but with more space. I learned then that Kambi is a sister restaurant to Minca.
For this first visit I ordered tofu appetizer and basic ramen. The tofu was plentiful with very nice nutty  gingery sauce. The ramen came with superb garlicy sauce and delightful meat, prepared with hand torch in front of mw, what a show. When it comes to noodle it self, this place fell below par . It was thick, white and a bit chewy, it could take another half to a inute in the boiling water. I wonder next time it would be OK to ask to cook it a bit more? It would make a great bowl!

Great Place! Great Vietnamese food prepared with some modern twists, but still very much retaining all of its originality.  A large group of us ordered many many dishes to share, a great idea. They were brought to the table in a coordinated way such we could actually train them and move them around the table to let everyone tasted each. They were all great, and I believed they were all consumed to clean plates.

Lovely place with lovely food. I had a couple of appetizers; slices of hamachi with jalapeno and crispy garlic, popcorn shrimp on a bed of potato and lettuce salad, both were fabulous. The waiter suggested Ichiban beer to go along, it was delicious. But, my main courses of sushi was a disappointing one. I had imagined it would be as fresh and succulent as something I got a t Tomoe in NYC, or as tasty and creatively prepared as in Shiro in Seattle. IT was not even close. The uni was good and fresh but the other, was so so. The rice and sea weed are in the chewy side. It was not that bad. I just had a very high expectation.

The place smells of aromatic burger as we arrived for lunch. So some of us ordered burger with what the menu described as sexy burger. The place offers only bar menu for lunch on Saturday. We did get to sit in the swanky restaurant area. Although the place was empty, it took a while for the wait staff to sit us down, this does not sits well with our unfortunate New York anxiousness.
The food arrived well coordinated, a group of 8 of us get our meals at the same time. Drinks were on the table much earlier. The service was good.  The burger looks good. Each order comes with 3 individual sealed bottles of ketchup, mayo and mustard. Impressive. One bites into the burger and the stringy sexy fries and I know the waiter had the bragging right about their burger. It was great. I must say I will come back some other time when in Seattle.

I go here if I don't see any way I can get in the city and I am really craving for ramen. I like the offering, Is just that the soup is to porky and the pork is too fatty for my taste. I do like the side orders though.

Mostly came over to popover in occasion of mother's day ro some occasion when friends visited. I like the basic popover with strawberry butter. I find the other popover meals are just very heavy. Salad and bloody mary are not bad.

It could have been romantic place, almost. I went there when there during weekdays, when less tourist in the area. The food was good, and tasted better with the nice winter light coming from the big windows on the second floor.
