The place must have been audacious some decades ago, but now it feels and looks tired. The meals were good, but not hitting all the spots.

Despite that they made me stand there and wait to conform a table for one for a while (don't people go to restaurant alone in Madison?), I like this place. A wedge of a building with an entrance on one corner seems to create unique layout with a slightly cramped bar area.
The service was lovely, a tall lovely waitress and a low table is always a good combination for the patrons. ;)
Great food, all nicely prepared. I got the seafood Brocetto, lovely! The butter lettuce salad was almost there, saved by the candied olives. Dessert, a creamy  creamy mush of gellato and expresso and a handful of bomboloni to dipped in was outreagous!!!

I had a high expectation for this place the moment I peek into the dark wooden walled den from the front window. The small entrance, tiled with what looked like custom ceramics, the dark bar, a man in a suit that looked at you funny before offering service. This  place must be good!
Well, the things they put on your table were handsome. The wait was courteous and abundantly cute. But the Caesar salad, in which I measured the quality of an eatery, was bland (other than the healthy size of anchovy lying on top). The signature Steak au Poivre so encrusted in peppery exoskeleton, I could not cut through the meat without straining. Combination of the mushroom sauce and the peppercorn crust was tasty, maybe in smaller amount, but the way it was, I couldn't taste the expensive meat at all.
May be next time...

I was seated in a corner booth facing all together four booths, filled with college students in happy conversations around their tumblers of soda. This was a neat place, a bit dark in a moody kind of way, but nice in the way that you can still see your food an your companions kind of way.
The service was great, a friendly waitress with a flower in her hair, big gleaming eyes and a biggest smile I have ever seen of someone recommending a local beer. She got me Hopalicious and it was delicious. An of course for the burger, I went for their famous The Melting Pot, and it was glorious. The best burger I have ever had. Really.
I just wish that I have known of this place three days earlier. Well, next time in Madison..

I enjoyed this place quite often, from the outside. The display window is always very appetising, reminding me of places I walked pass by in Spain.
I finally found an excuse to dine there in one nice spring evening. It was still light out, and the light inside the dark resto was just perfect. We had nice meal starting with grilled baby calamary and buffalo motz salad. Our entres were the special that night, grilled lamb chop and seafood linguini.

It was ok. The service was good, the sushi was fine. The small place was neat, with the best spot to be the bar. Attentive and atractive staff in traditional garb, hover nicely. There was something lacking though, I am not sure where. I think I have to get back from another dinner for the ala carte items. For now, I have to say the food was not up the par for the price asked. Omen, around the corner for example served great food for its high price.

Impressive setting, spotty service, with some weird mishaps on the ambiance music during dinner.

Food was good, undefinable new American to me. Clearly put together with top notch ingredient. But what's up with the bland hummus spread? The bread it come with was fresh and delicious.

Top notch service, top notch food.
So for incredible dining experience I now have a very dependable spot.
Pretty much made me skip any trip to Basta Pasta.

An alternative to Basta Pasta, Greenwich Grill is another place to satisfy my love for Japanese influenced Italian food (First Floor). Next to try is the lower floor for sushi.

For first visit I suggest the tasting menu or the Chef Seasonal Selection. You'll get a nicely choreographed servings that include pasta, seafood and meat dishes with a coffee and simple dessert to close.
