I've been going to this vet due to its close walking distance from home. Honestly, this place is very very overpriced. In my own personal opinion, I do not think this place provides service that makes up for the inflated prices.
I brought my puppy in when I first got her for a check up. There, Dr. Rattan checked the shot records I brought, 'througly examined' my puppy and said that she needed so and so many shots to complete her basic 5. Each time I went there, I was slapped with a $65 dollar doctors visit. Fine. I understand...it costs more for a vet to take a look at my dog, and because I love my puppy, I am willing to pay this much.
What I disliked was when I brought in the puppy on a weekend for her supposedly last shot as well as rabies shot. Prior to that visit, she had been seen by Dr. Rattan twice, and each time there had been a 'physical examination. Well, on this particular day, a different doctor (he's only here on the weekends) saw my puppy, gave her the two shots...and then later told me (after examining her teeth) that my puppy was too young, and should not have received the rabies shot. I was to go uncharged for the rabies shot, and return later when the time was right to get the shot....I was then given another $65 dollar doctor visit bill as well as the bill for her other non-rabies shot.
What the heck?! How could this not go unnoticed? Why the heck did I pay $65 dollars each time and end up getting an unneccessary rabies shot?! Also, I don't even know if they jotted that part down on the computer, because when I later asked for her shot records, there was no note saying that she had had the rabies shot...isn't this an ethical concern?
Anyways, I decided to stick around and go to this clinic to get my puppy spayed because I figured-hey, they've seen my puppy since i got her, they probably will best handle her and know her. Well, she got spayed...and the front desk man specifically told me that the surgery went well, and they used a liquid glue to suture her tissues together. I looked at my puppy's tummy, and she had liquid glue marks, as well as purple plastic suture like knots sticking out. I asked, 'will I need to bring her back to get the stiches out?" He replied, "no, because it's liquid glue, she will not have to come back." .....so then I asked, "what if she PLAYS with the stiches." He repeated, "It's ok, because she has the liquid glue."....i looked at him doubtfully, but trusted him, and went home...sure enough two days go by, the knotted purple sutures are still there, and now my puppy is picking at it. I was thinking to myself, 'how the heck are these sutures supposed to disolve? Does it just fall out? What?!
In concern, I called right now, and was informed that the front desk man had told me incorrectly and that I had to return to remove the stiches. liquid glue was usually only for males, but my female had the stiches...wth...how could the man that day of surgery not even know that my puppy had gotten spayed vs neutered??!!! isn't it really important to know that? Isn't it really important to give correct post operative instructions? EVEN IN MY PRINTED INVOICE, the intructions said that there were no external sutures so suture removal will not be needed. I guess I should have noticed this by just looking at her stomach, but hey, I'm not a professional in this field, I trusted these people. This makes me SOOO angry. I think the WORLD of my puppy, and this is NOT the reason I paid top dollar at a reputable vet clinic.
Anyways, I expressed my concern about my puppy playing with her suture (it is a big fat knot just sticking out like crazy waiting for it to be chewed), and the man told me that I had to go and purchase a pet cone. Honestly, I read up on the spaying procedure and was fully expecting a pet cone to come with the ridiculously priced surgery....but no, this was a separate item because "most dogs don't play with there sutures" and I had to get one myself.
Sigh...I am just disappointed by the lack of communication this clinic seems to have between their staff...between the staff and pet owners...between the doctors...etc. They seem to care genuinely about their patients, but the lack of organization turns me off somewhat. Hopefully it will be a better experience when I go to take my puppy for her suture removal....
