The Zinfandel Grille - Gold River

The menu is just...ok. Some options are better than others, including the Asian Chicken Salad. The pizza was also ok, the jerk chicken sandwich - the bread seemed fresh, the chicken was well cooked, but something about the dressing was off enough to be unappetizing. All in all, it's just ok.
If you're going to spend the same amount of money, go somewhere better than ok! I'd rather go to Amore next door.

My friend and I both ate less than half our plates and made it clear that we had no interest in the leftovers. We also didn't feel so great the rest of the night.
Also...tacky waitresses. This isn't Hooters. And if you're gonna be tacky, would it kill you to at least be polite?

I've been here twice now and tried....
- Portobello Mushroom with Hummus
- Potato w/Muenster Cheese and Mango Salsa
- Spinach Salad
- Grape Leaves and Yogurt
I was definitely the biggest fan of the salad and the potato, but how can you really go wrong with a deep fried potato ball filled with cheese?
For lunch, you can get a variety of falafels, which are definitely a reason to go back. I really liked my turkish falafel w/ spicy sauce. They have fun juice combinations like lemon-mint and grapefruit anise. Instead of getting a big glass of juice, you can get 3 small glasses and try multiple flavors, which is definitely the way to go.
It's a family run business and one worth supporting!
The older furniture, community table, and even the drink area were all great touches.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff.

We had the chickent tikka masala as well as the mattar paneer, and when they came out, it was the exact same dish, except one had paneer in it, and the other chicken. It was clear that the sauce was premade and then the stuff was just tossed in right before serving. On top of that, both dishes were all gravy and very little chicken or paneer.
In no way should the two be the same!
I was looking for home cooked, non-heavy, non-greasy Indian food. Instead, what we got was stereotypical cream laden food. Maybe the other dishes aren't like this, but from what I could tell by looking around, I'm not so sure.
There were other Indian people in the restaurant, and perhaps we should have tried what they were ordering - the Tandoori Chicken seemed to be quite popular.
To end on a positive note, the naan was pretty excellent - I had the garlic naan and it was thinner and lighter than most naans, and really yummy.

Purely rating the food, it deserves a 3.
While the chips and salsa were yummy, my enchiladas verdes were Lame with a capital L. I've been limited to eating lots of enchiladas lately due to having braces (Yes, I'm an adult) that get tightened every 10 days, and these were by far the most lackluster I've had in a while. I'll give them props for not being drenched in heart-attack inducing volumes of cheese, but damn...can we get a little flavor??
I resent places that feel no need to season chicken and only season pork and beef! Not fair! I will certainly not be ordering those again...We also started with the empanadas which were fine, but again, nothing to write home about...
I'd come back for an appetizer and drinks on the patio, but if you're craving well seasoned, with a little kick, you should go somewhere else!
It was definitely not what I was expecting to find in Fresno. I had the Pollo Latino, which comes with the truffle mac and cheese, and my friend had the Lomo Saltado. Her dish was exactly as the other reviewers mentioned it - a little on the salty side and she was grateful to have steamed rice to offset the salt. I had the Pollo Latino - and was dissapointed. The truffle mac and cheese was REALLY good, but the chicken itself, although moist, just wasn't seasoned very much and had a flavor I didn't love.
This gets bumped up to 4 because
- Excellent Customer Service
- Amazing Bread Pudding! (It's creamy and not crusty like other bread puddings, it tastes kind of like a bread pudding pie)
- Peruvian ice cream - We had the mango and it was delicious! Not overwhelmingly sweet, but really good.
- Fried Chicken Appetizer - Interesting; Lime sauce accompaniment is different and tangy
Try it out...but order with caution. If you're not a chickenetarian like I am, order something else!

Cyclone Anaya's Mexican Kitchen

However, the rest of the meal from there was indistinguishable (in my opinion) from any other mid-range Mexican Restaurant in Houston. I had the enchiladas suizas - always a gamble because the sauce can be creamy but thin and really flavorful, or it can be the way it was that night - Immensely thick and with so much on the plate that it was completely unappetizing. I actually "forgot" my leftovers in a friends car, probably because I knew I wasn't really going to dig into them again.
As far as my tablemates, they also all had a "meh" experience.
The patio is pretty, and the atmosphere is nice for a casual dinner out, however, 3 for 3 so-so responses is hard to come back from.

Cielo Mexican Bistro
Category: Mexican
Neighborhoods: Downtown, Fourth Ward
Lured in by other reviewers posts about cheap appetizers and drink specials, I decided to check out Cielo before heading a few blocks down to the Rockets game. Sure enought, $2, $3, and $5 specials add up and we ended up having a $70 snack!!
However, it was really fun and also quite worthit. Both salsas are different and really good. As my URL indicates, I love sauce...The sauces that came with each appetizer were very flavorful and nicely complimented the flavors. The restaurant was beautiful and even though it was a quiet night, it was a nice atmosphere.
I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town during the week!

The food was sorely disappointing - I think any decent Southern buffet would have had the same (if not better) quality without all of the hype.
- Chicken: undistinguishable from other fried chicken
- Ho Cake: tasted like grease - is this supposed to have flavor?
- Mac N Cheese, Greens, Beans - mediocre, at best
- Peach cobbler - very corn syrupy without a good crust
Save your money, your time, your tummy and your arteries and find the hole-in-the-wall Southern joints!
