Discovered a few months ago on the advice of a friend. Knowing next to nothing about Vietnamese cuisine, let me tell you what I like: pork, glass noodles, bean sprouts, and a fried egg mixed together in a bowl of steamed rice is heaven. Highly recommended. One frustration: They're closed on Wednesdays, which somehow always seems to be the day I want them the most ...

Your basic Chinese buffet, wrapped in a colorful candy shell. During a recent lunch, a former North Korean Army officer who had escaped to become a waiter in Columbus, Ga., yelled at me and my co-workers for taking too long to order. The egg rolls come wrapped in an inpenetratable fried shell that will shatter enamel off your teeth.
When I left Columbus many years ago, the *only* place to buy sushi in town was Shogun Steakhouse, and it wasn't bad. When I returned, the options had spread around, much to my delight. (Be sure to check out Mikata's sushi bar, now the best in town.)
It was my mission to try them all as soon as possible. Osaka scored low on my first visit one evening; a bored and dis-interested wait staff served me warm nigiri, and I thought I was going to be sick.
However, I gave it a couple more tries and now must say: A solid four stars! The selection is good, the service fast, and I *love* the bento box lunch option (chef's choice on nigiri).
It's very affordable, and the staff attitude is much improved over the past year. Please give them a try! (The artful orange slices served with your bill is a nice touch!)

Awesome staff, great Italian, good prices. My mom has some "special needs" right now when it comes to restaurants and large numbers of people; the Porvino's staff was totally cool and helped us out for our entire visit. Loved the Chicken Marsala; can't wait to try the manicotti! Please check 'em out. For those in the know: It's *literally* at the foot of the Auburn-Opelika Airport runway. You can't miss it!
