Efrain's Mexican Restaurant

Uhhhh...yum? Yes! Yum! Ummmm....authentic? Yes! Super authentic. Ummmm....make you smile it's so good? Yes! You couldn't tear the grin off my face when I'm eating there.

I've long told my friends since I moved to Denver, that I would love to find a great, authentic, Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurant in the city. However,  after many failed attempts at this endeavor - so failed in fact, that I couldn't even yelp about them - I reached my final destination. At last! Efrain's - I've been waiting for you...for far too long and here we are. Together at last. Isn't it just great?!!?

I actually dined at Efrain's twice in one week. After my first visit, I left with visions of what I would try next on their menu. I was that person that went around talking to everyone they knew about the restaurant that they tried and raved, raved, raved. Slightly obnoxious, maybe? Passionate? Certainly.

So, the first time I had the chicken supreme. Yum. Not too spicy - even with their infamous salsa verde. And let me tell ya somethin' - it was indeed supreme. Yeah, baby. To be honest, Efrain's had me at hello - or rather at the guacamole. You know, it wasn't anything fancy - but sure tasted great and looked nothing like the kryptonite green fake guac I once (ONCE) endured at Las Delicias. Let me talk about this salsa verde for a moment though...my dining partner loves it so much that during the ol' college days, they would purchase gallons of it and have it shipped to Oregon or travel with it on the plane. I mean, that's some serious dedication, no?

Alright, moving right along. Visit two. Great White Lightning margaritas in a carafe - there were three of us and well worth the spend. The margs there rock - and i consider myself to be a bit of a margarita aficionado. I was feeling pretty crazy that night, so I went all out with the chicken chimichanga. Deep fried goodness. Heck yeah! The "changa" arrived and once again - thrilled. We also ordered a veggie taco - which by the way - are delicious and massive. I mixed my rice in with the beans and I was well on my way to a happy stomach. Oh and the margs - did I mention that they're great? Because they are.

The service there has also been consistent - friendly, accurate and just what you would expect at a place like Efrain's. I can't wait to go back! And you know what? I think I will - tonight! This time I'm going to hit up the original location (they have 3 - Lafayette, Boulder and Longmont) in Lafayette. I hope it's just as good as my other two visits in Boulder-town!! (nervous...)

McGill's

McGill's is a staple type restaurant. They have the classic dishes that will always be a favorite indulgence for someone. My personal favorite is the Pasta Lobster. The sauce is to die for and the lobster is sweet and succulent. When I dined here last I ordered the Sunday special which consisted of a 5 oz. filet and a 5 oz lobster tail. I was hesitant to order this because I feared that my lobster would come out overcooked. My fear unfortunately came true - my lobster was overcooked and dry. Not so good. But the filet was yummy and the asparagus was good too!

Let me rewind for a moment though - I tend to be picky about my caesar salads. And I should have asked about the dressing. Some people like a creamier dressing, but I'm not a fan. The dressing on their caesar is creamy - so if you prefer the contrast - be advised. :)

I wouldn't rave about McGill's to everyone I meet based on this visit, but I have been there before and had the Pasta Lobster which I would rave about. The service is always pleasant and you walk out with a happy belly.

El Guapo's Cantina

Meh. I mean, that's what I thought when I left today. Oh, and I thought about the gagillions of calories I just consumed.

But, I'm totally serious here, it's just so-so. It's hard to pinpoint what the problem is to me here, but I guess I am looking for a little more creativity. Maybe that's asking too much. Okay, just give me a little more quality then. My dining partner order the El Guapo tacos with chicken and they looked so sad when they came out. The plate had nothing exciting about it...no sour cream or crema drizzles. It's as though they were put together on the assembly line. Sad and dreary plate of tacos.

I ordered the two choices lunch portion. I went with smoked chicken enchiladas, cheese and onion enchilada with white queso on top. The plate also came with rice and charro beans. My enchiladas were sad looking too, but I was hungry and ignored the dried queso covering the top. Did my plate sit under a lamp for like 30 minutes???

I will say that the margarita was yummy. I don't like margaritas with sour mix. They make me gag! But, their margs have a limeade base with silver tequila and triple sec. 16 oz...6 bucks. Woohoo to that!

I mean, if it's a late night and you want something that will stick to your ribs, go for it - I just wish they would give their dishes a little more pizazz...presentation is everything!

Update - 3/4/2009
Hmmmm...where oh where do I begin? Another perfect evening at Rioja - even during 5280 Week on a Friday night! Surprise, surprise! Like I mentioned in my first review - Rioja is the perfect sibling and all the other restaurants in Denver are the red-headed step children.

Let me start by piping off all of the wonderful people at Rioja. I've had several interactions with staff - I challenge you to find a better team in the city...or Colorado for that matter - or even the mecca of restaurants in NY, Chicago, LA, New Orleans...

Sarah, Patrick, Tony, Beth, Jenn, Jared, Tanya, Nate. I heart these people...I know, how can you heart people you barely know??? Ummm...just meet them, they rock the de cashbah. Truly, they are what I love most about this wonderful place. While the food is out of this world spectacular, the people that make up Rioja are second to none!

So, yes - Rioja is as good as it gets and they can do no wrong. I'll karate chop you if you try and say something mean about them.

As I mentioned, it was a Friday night during 5280 Week. The restaurant was packed and we arrived a bit early. I checked in with the hostess and we took a seat at the bar. Low and behold, like little angels from heaven above - there they are - Patrick and Tony! Mixin' drinks like crazy, they took a moment to greet us and I introduced them to my posse. They remembered me - they're just so great. Then, Jared came by. He is just the greatest; such a kind heart and crazy good taste in vino to boot! After our chat with Jared we ordered some coin style margaritas from Patrick and Tony (let's just call them angels from here on out). Oh and Tanya came by too! She is forever known as the limo driver (co-owner) also stopped by and asked how everything was - so nice of her to do that! Apparently we were rather parched, because those margaritas went down a bit too quickly, but alas, we ordered another drink and about that time, our table was ready. I want to try sitting at the chef's bar next time - it looks like fun.

They sat us at the same table we sat in the first time we were there - oh, I guess you'd call that the first time I fell in love...with Rioja.

We began to browse the 5280 menu; the full menu is still available during Restaurant Week, but some items have an additional surcharge. I think it was great to have everything available for their guests - good thinking! "What delicious treats would I get this time???" Nate arrived at the table with a smile on his face and lots of fun things to tell us about the menu. He was also perfection...even on a ridiculously busy night. We needed a little bit of time to look over the menu, so Nate politely left us to our menus so we could salivate even more over the choices.  When Nate stopped back by we decided to order the oyster po' boys and hand-made mozzarella. My friend is from New Orleans and has an incredibly selective palate like me (meaning, we appreciate excellent food), so the po' boys were going to be heavily scrutinized.

Everything was going great...and then the po' boys...that's where it got EVEN BETTER!!! (Ha, did I trick you??) No, I'm totally serious, we haven't stopped talking about them - think "BAM!" on steroids! He actually called his friend who lives on the water in Biloxi, MS and said this was the best po' boy he's ever had. And I had to agree. The flavors were well balanced and we wanted a gallon of the hot sauce to go home with us. My mozzarella was soooo pretty and tasty too.

We ordered the warm squash salad and beet salad - they were of course, oh-so-yum. Everytime the beet salad is set before us I think, "Oh my God, this is so gorgeous." Oh, the sauce with the warm squash salad (I can't recall the name at the moment) is unbelievably good. If I remember correctly, there was some sort of mustard with it?? But, I loved it. We asked Nate to select some wines for our next courses and he did so gladly - the wines were paired perfectly.

We always order the candied lemon gnocchi - lovely! We also got to try a single serving of the artichoke tortellini with goat cheese mousse in the most flavorful and decadent broth in the universe. I will definitely order that next time - to die for!

Dinner! Someone ordered the scallops - which are amazing. I opted for the Tasmanian Salmon. The potatoes and Pernod creme were exquisite paired with the salmon. I think I would have liked it even more if there was less smokey flavor to it. Scallops were cooked perfectly and off the charts divine.

For dessert - the s'more and beignets. The smore was AWESOME! But, the beignets are stellar!

Jenn and Beth, I'm starting to wonder if being perfect is a prerequisite to working there, because that's the common denominator with your staff and your food! Applause!

Don't tell anyone, but I might ask Rioja to marry me.

I've reached 5000 characters again - ciao!

Ahhhhhhhhhhh....wond erful. Delicious. Superb. Truly, I cannot sing the praises of Rioja enough. This establishment just makes me happy when I walk in the door! Now, when I walk out of the door is a different story...I'm practically in a food coma and dreaming about trading in my true religion denim for a pair of beige, elastic waistband pants!

Three of us dined at Rioja on Friday night - the restaurant was busy - we walked in and put our names in for a table. One of the hostesses pointed out two options in the restaurant that would likely be our seating. One was in the front of the restaurant near the outside patio and the other was at the sofas near the bar. I wasn't terribly keen on either...but it was Rioja and I knew the service and amazing food would make up for it.

Now I must take a moment to brag about the staff at Rioja. The bartender, Patrick, was so wonderful. He remembered the drinks we ordered when we were in about two days ago. It made the wait for our table much more enjoyable. Kudos to Patrick for a job well done and being a fun-friendly guy even though you were swamped on a Friday night!

Then, much to my surprise one of the hostesses remembered us from a couple days before when we came in for a drink (again, wonderful staff!). Next thing I know, is that about fifteen minutes later we had a beautiful table toward the back of the restaurant - it was perfect!

Tanya then greeted us at our table and began to inform us about the menu. She was friendly and knowledgeable and I knew that the evening would not be a let down. Service is extremely important to me when I patron a restaurant - and like i continue to rattle on - the service at Rioja is exceptional.

The menu...my oh my!!! Jenn (owner and chef of Rioja) has culminated a spread of ingredients that speak to your palate when you peruse her menu. I literally SALIVATE when I read about the selections. I get all giddy inside when I think about what flavors to expect!!

So, we decided to go all out for dinner that evening. You only live once, right!?!? We opted for the lamb chorizo pizza and black mission fig newtons (homemade, of course!! That's how Jenn rolls!) with proscuitto and gorgonzola. Beverages of the alcoholic kind were ordered and we were well on our way to enjoy ourselves.

Our appetizers arrived and we dove right in! The pizza had a little kick to it - but the goat cheese helped to cool it down a bit and mesh the flavors together beautifully. Not to mention the fig newton!!! Oh - the presentation was so pretty. I am always amazed at how the ingredients can seem so bizarre on the menu, but you can always be assured that it will come together and taste wonderful.

We each ordered a salad - warm squash, Jenn's chopped salad and the beet salad. The beet salad was one of the most STUNNING presentations I've EVER seen. It was like a piece of artwork...just gorgeous!! All the salads were deeee-lish!

We decided to have a third course, or pasta course before our entrees and ordered the candied lemon gnocchi. I have had this before and it was just as wonderful as the first time. The presentation was slightly different as it included edible flowers - which are super fun!

Fourth course (I know, you've got to be kidding me, right!?). We ordered sea scallops, fettucine and the filet.

    (insert music from heaven here...)

My filet was cooked PERFECTLY. Surprise, I know. :) The flavors were wonderful. The scallops were OUTSTANDING with a spicy green curry and coconut risotto. The fettucine was also SPLENDID! It had a little kick to it, the meatballs were out of this world. There are so many tempting choices on the menu - you won't be disappointed with anything you pick!

Oh, I feel like I have neglected to brag about Tanya our "limo driver" as I like to call it. It's the difference between a cab ride and a limo ride. Smooth ride with attentive service while not coming across as overbearing. The other people that assisted her throughout the evening were perfect as well. Drinks were never low, tables were cleaned quickly, silverware was restocked - you never had to ask for a thing. I love that. Tanya also helped us with selecting a nice glass of vino to enjoy with our entrees.

Rioja is like that brother or sister that is sooooo damn perfect all the time that they cause you to make that gesture where you stick your finger in your mouth and act like your gagging - because you're so envious. I can just picture the other restaurants in the area making that gesture when they hear people "oooooo-and-awe" over Rioja. They know what they are doing!

To wrap up the night we ordered upside down pineapple bread pudding and pumpkin cheesecake! The homemade ice creams with dessert were to die for.

Rioja, thank you for being my favorite restaurant. Can't sing your praises enough - no really, I'd write more, but I only get 5,000 characters!

Osteria Marco

I went with 4 stars, although I really wish I had the option for a 1/2 star, simply because I would like to make Osteria Marco a 3 1/2 star. But I rounded up because I believe in karma. Maybe I'll get rounded up one day?!?! (what does that mean??) So if you're reading this, just think "3 1/2 because Kristin had no 1/2 star option." (Oh Yelp creator people - please give us a half star option!)

Alright - the review. I like this place and I actually want to like to even more, but sometimes I just don't get that "awesome experience" vibe when I go in there (I've been 3 times, breaking the rules again, I know). I will say this - I love their happy hour menu!! It's $15 and you get a half glass of wine of your choice, an appetizer and a pizza. That's pretty sweet if you ask me.

ORDER THE MEATBALL SLIDERS. Oh god, the sliders make me salivate. They are so stinkin' good!!! I love the arugula salad as well and you can't go wrong with the margherita pizza. My dining partner ordered this delicious chicken panini - you should totally get that too.

Anyhow, the bartenders were pretty cool. They like Top Chef, I like Top Chef so we had that to talk about. They offered me some tastes of wine which is always fun and life was good. My dining partner might have said something that hacked one of the bartenders off - we're not sure about that. When I say "might have said something" I mean that in the sense that we don't really know what could have been construed as offensive, but we felt the level of service changed after the joke was made. However it's probably all in our little pea-sized heads and we should just get over it. :)

I would recommend Osteria Marco for a couple different scenarios - meeting someone for a drink after work - maybe a "test this person out, don't spend too much time with them" type thing or a group of friends. I don't find the atmosphere romantic or anything - just a casual place where you can load up on carbs. All in all, I like Osteria, and I'll go back because the food is yummy and I like the wine selection! The bartenders are also very nice (in case you're reading this!!).

Southwest Airlines

5.0 star rating

I'm sitting on the airplane right now thinking about how much I heart Southwest Airlines. Seriously, I'm in love and I think I might propose. I wonder if the other airlines know what is going on here? I mean, do they have any idea about how much better Southwest is than the  other rip off airlines out there??" It's absolutely crazy how much they try and empty your pocketbook for everything! And comical in a way how the big airlines have become such cheapskates. Nickel and dime everything. Take United for example - is it funny to anyone else that they advertise "extra legroom" for like $75?? I mean, it's 2 inches! I feel like some feeble peasant begging for a slice of bread, "please sir, may I have an extra inch or two?? My legs hurt so badly." Even with those extra couple of inches I'm almost certain I would still be eating my knee caps. Oh and the obvious - charging for bringing LUGGAGE?? I mean, when is the last time you took a flippin' trip without a piece of luggage that couldn't be jammed into the overhead luggage bin (cue the women pack too much crappy jokes!). Seriously, who does that?? Business men and women out there - you cannot respond to that question! Ha (you can be bossy when you blog)!

My seat on this plane is quite comfy. Adequate legroom, super nice flight attendants and a ridiculously fast flight from Denver (DEN) to Tulsa (TUL) . I want to say I heard something like 50 minutes?? Is that possible? I'm more than happy with my experience thus far. Now, let's just hope and pray that we make it to the ground in one piece, right? That would kind of blow the whole happy experience for me. Ha! God, I am jinxing myself just talking about it. (insert nervous laughter here...)

I'm going to close up the laptop and try to get a little shuteye for a bit. I'll give you the rest of the story when I land. :)

UPDATE: Wow. What a pleasant experience.

My flight from Denver to Tulsa was perfect. I can't sing their praises enough.

Tulsa (TUL) to New Orleans (MSY)...

I actually connected this flight in Dallas Love Field. However, let me start by saying this, I did not think I would make the flight as I showed up one hour before my flight - on the nose. But, I checked my bags, did the security thing, dashed up the escalator and there I was at the gate. The primary reason I thought this plane wasn't going to take off was the weather. TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR in Tulsey-town. My mom was driving me and she was certain we were going to hydroplane! I just knew that inclement weather would be my demise...or so I thought. Much to my surprise, the weather did subside and the pilot came out and spoke to everyone at the gate informing them about the weather and that he saw no concerns about travel to Dallas Love Field. RELIEF!

The only problem that I encountered was my flight from Dallas Love Field (DAL) to New Orleans (MSY). However, the problem wasn't a result of Southwest Airlines, it was the weather. Bad, bad rain. Delays all over the place. Nothing they could have done better, not like that at all. Southwest can do no wrong to me at this moment. :)

We were only one and a half or two hours behind schedule from my overall itinerary. We were on the plane, delayed a bit for take off because of congestion on the runway and the airspace we shared with DFW. They offered beverage service...I had to order a cocktail. Just a lot of stress, anxious to get to New Orleans, yadda yadda yadda. We had a quick 70 minute flight and I was there! My bags arrived immediately. It was perfect!

So, to conclude - Southwest Airlines - you've captured my heart. I'd really like it if we could continue hanging out, getting to know each other better. And, I know, it's a little crazy to say this so early in the relationship, but I think I love you. Will you marry me? Okay, just think about it. xoxo!

I've been meaning to write this update for a while now! Anyhow - apparently someone that knows Larin at Luxe saw my review on here and called me the next day to offer me a complimentary style! How nice is that??!?

What great customer service and follow-up. My reason for the 5 star boost. Larin is doing a great job making sure their clients are COMPLETELY satisfied - and that doesn't happen that often! Kudos to Larin and the crew at Luxe!

NOTE: Luxe has moved...it was a close move, literally across the street. I can't wait to check out the new space!

I have a serious issue with my hair. I'm REALLY weird about who I let cut my hair - yadda yadda yadda. But when you're sportin' a faux-hawk, I think you have to be picky! So, I did the usual http://local.goog... search, hopped onto http://yelp.com as a "cross-reference" (computer nerd!!) and felt like I should call Luxe. So, I did.

I think I got Larin on the phone (sorry Larin if I misspelled your name!) and she was able to book me with Dawn. After reading about Dawn on the site, I was pretty stoked to get in with her immediately - as a result of a cancellation. Her bio sounded like she was progressive and outside the box - and I like-a-dat!

I show up for my 1pm appointment (this was a Wednesday). I was greeted by a gal at the front desk - they complimented me on my hair - which was very sweet and then Dawn's assistant arrived and had me cover up my clothing with a shiny, silvery jacket. Fun! She asked me for my coat and then whisked me off to Dawn's station. She then offered me something to drink.

Dawn immediately came over and started talking about my hair - she thought the faux-hawk was fun and was excited about cutting it. I also liked the fact that she said something along the lines of I can definitely cut this. WHEW! Music to my freaking ears!

For your first visit they offer a complimentary application when they shampoo and condition. The only thing that I missed was the scalp massage. Larin told me on the phone that they do that - so I was bummed when it didn't happen - that's the whole reason I look forward to going to the salon -- relaxation, pampering and someone rubbin' my scalp. Word! That's the only reason I didn't 5 star this one.

So, the cut is FAAAAABBBBBBUUUUUUUL LLLOUS! I abso-freaking-lutely LOVE it. I was flying home to Tulsa, OK to get my haircut - so finding a local stylista rocked my world!

I would highly recommend Dawn to anyone looking for someone who knows what they are doing and is particular about their hair. APPLAUSE, APPLAUSE to Dawn at Luxe!

So, I made a phone call...

Yep...talked to the service manager, John. After explaining the situation, he spoke with the technician and service consultant guy - they of course said that my story was contrasting to theirs...yadda yadda yadda.

However, he did offer to refund me the labor portion of that particular repair. It was certainly a nice gesture and I accepted.

I bumped them up one star because I am happy I received a partial refund, but none of that would have happened had I not "made the call."

Oh and the waiting area still sucks. Ha!

    12/2/2008 First to Review

Well, well, well. Where do I begin?

First, let me say...maybe I was spoiled at the last place I took my car for service in Oklahoma, but something tells me this is just a genuine let down service shop. Or maybe it was the Toyota dealership I recently visited with my boyfriend for service. That was nice.

Secondly, why in the world am I first to review this place?? I know I can't be the only one that has had a less than lustrous experience (or maybe I'm not!?).

Okay - so the nitty-gritty of the 2 stars revolves around the following criteria:

    1. Service guy when I arrived: oh wait - there wasn't one! Now, every place I have gone to before someone meets you at your car. Instead, I look like a dumbfounded idiot standing in the middle of the service bay, aimlessly hoping someone will tell me where the hell I should go - because apparently I wasn't in the right area...

    2. Crappy waiting area
Old freaking soda machine that excreted (yes, I said excreted) dollops of goo in a cup and sprayed soda water after. Oh and donuts. Honestly - the donuts were pretty good - I had two after about a two hour wait. But, the service guy told me "and you'll just go down the hall and around the corner to our waiting area. It's very nice." Maybe my expectations were set waaaay too high. But this was not very nice to me. An old boob tube that you needed to sit right next to in order to see the screen. Excreting soda machines - thank God I didn't pay for that - and donuts. They had coffee too - but I'm not the type to drink coffee without milky goodness. I was able to get on the web with my mac, but damn it all, the battery went dead. Ugh.

    3. Lady that yelled at the guy that walked in and had been stealing donuts and soda for about a year.
Some guy walks in the lobby of the dealership and the receptionist immediately walks over to him and yells, "OH NO! Oh no sir! You are not going to do this anymore!! No more!" At that point I was fully expecting the vertically challenged man to expose himself to us or something wild like that. But, it turns out the guy has been coming into the dealership through various "points of entry" to steal donuts, soda (I don't know why!), make phone calls and use the bathroom! So, after about a year and an employee meeting (which I heard about) this guy was not going to get away with it. "Go somewhere else and freeload!" the receptionist yelled at him. Wow...maybe I should have given them 4 stars for the entertainment factor. It was a riot!

    4. Updates - or lack thereof!
I was told that my oil change - which is what I came there for - would take about one hour or one hour and fifteen minutes. After about one hour and forty-five minutes I left the fancy-pants waiting area and walked back to service. The cashier was helpful and got my service guy who proceeded to check on my car. I mean, shouldn't that have happened about thirty minutes ago? So, I waited for a bit...and...see item #5.

    5. Explanation of repair
Apparently the simple oil change that I made my appointment for wasn't enough. There was damage to some front pan on the under side of my car that had some impact damage. It was attached by someone who did it incorrectly, so now it needed to be fixed because they had my car in pieces in the shop and they said they couldn't let it leave the shop that way. Well, is that my problem??? What if I didn't have the $560 to repair it?? Would they have not let me take my car? Would they make me go back there and "try" to put it back together myself?!? It was unreal to me that they wouldn't let me take my car without fixing it. I also needed new brake pads in the back. Whatever...that's fine. But will you give me my car back if I don't want that done? Which leads me to item #6.

    6. Rental car??
Because these people are sooooo generous they offered to split the cost  for a rental car since they were going to need several hours to fix the front pan issue. Wow...don't go all out now...split the cost?! I mean, what choice did I have? Sit in a shitty waiting room all day or rent a car for a day - because they wouldn't give me my car back if I didn't get it repaired.

    7. Pick-up
I did get a call around 4pm that day stating that my car was ready. I was happy to hear this - much to my dismay they weren't calling me to tell me that the service technicians decided to take my S40 Volvo out for a joyride and  totaled it. Damn. I bought "gap insurance."

So, all in all, I wasn't pleased with my experience. I hope other people go there and are blown away - because this left a bad taste in my mouth (or maybe that was the dollop of goo in the dixie cup). And Rickenbaugh...I don't know if you're hard-up for cash or something, but when you hold someone's car hostage and tell them they can't have it unless they get it repaired, at least cover the cost of the rental car. Geez Louise!

Whoa...what's going on in this place???

"I'm totally creeped out..." I whisper under my breath as I walk through the valley of the shadow of death...aka...the creepy hallway to the bathroom with strange animal sounds.

Awkwardness abounds here and it totally distracts me from my mission...noting eloquent points that are to be mentioned in my Yelp! review...

It's like walking into that crazy man's grandma's house from Silence of the Lambs...just not sure what's happening. And WHY it happened.

The only way I have been able to endure this place is by sitting outside...even if it's freezing cold. I have ordered drinks and tapas there. All were "eh." I don't know why I've gone back two or three times.

Honestly, I'm completely confused right now just thinking about all of this...which certainly isn't going to make this a helpful review.

So, let's break it down - the 'ol two star breakin' it down methodology:

1. Creepy and awkward. I get it, kind of. It's that Emo-ish, American Apparel, folk-lorian (totally made that word up), Rapunzel-esque decor...plus strange noises and scary mannequins placed in rooms that scare the crime-a-nittly out of you when you walk around the corner.

2. Food and drink - ok at best.

3. Service. Every waitress I have had there looks completely puzzled when I order...and I'm pretty sure I'm not speaking gibberish. This one lady looked almost completed glazed over and just stared at me for a moment...oh perhaps she was entranced by the random magical animals dancing in the river beside me. Whoa.

I actually believe that if I wasn't so creeped out by this place that I might enjoy it more.

But, if you're there with a great group of people you can forget about the mannequin in the small dark room that almost made you pee your pants...again.

I was laid off from my job...thus I've become a magnet to places that have various types of nourishment AND free wifi. Cue...The Market! (Riveting segue, I know)

So, I spent a couple hours here yesterday. I walked up the stairs to the back to see what kind of trouble I could get myself into and stumbled across an inviting lentil salad. It was about 2:15pm so I think they were getting ready for the next rush or something. But, there was another guy at the counter that this woman was helping and a guy working on prepping food. No one even said to me, "we'll be right with you." Nothing. I felt like I was back at Rickenbaugh Volvo in the service bay just hoping someone would tell me what I was doing wrong. After about 7 minutes and 32 seconds of standing there with my pitiful looking self, I ordered a half pound of the lentil salad that had been staring at me for 8 minutes and 13 seconds and grabbed a bottled water.

Walked over to the cash register, asked if there was a code for the wifi - there isn't (niiiiiiice). However, I must say the woman that helped me totally redeemed herself - she was friendly and the 7 minutes and 32 seconds of waiting vanished from my mind. Smiles get me everytime...

So, I picked a sunny spot outside to sit, placed my things on the table and began the daunting task of trying to finagle my awkward body in between the wirey madness that made up the legs of the table. I looked like a smaller Chris Farley flailing my body all over the place in front of what I would deem a rather large group of people. I heart awkward moments like this. Once I was fully entangled in the table I opened up my Mac and began to write.

The lentil salad was great - refreshing - healthy. OH - and the water!!!! Oh my oh my - if you go to The Market - you MUST get a bottle of this water. To die for! (complete sarcasm with the water)

After the temperature dropped a little, I decided to order a coffee and find a table inside. I ordered the Milky Way Cafe Latte - it was oh so yummy and finished up my writing.

All in all, the market is great. The spread of food they have upstairs rocks...and I CANNOT wait to try some of those fantastic looking desserts!! So, definitely hit up The Market and wave to me if you see my unemployed ass mangled in the wires of the table legs. That'd be great.
