Bikram Yoga Burien

I came here for the first time with a friend who had never taken a Bikram class before and was immediately taken aback at how clean and fresh the entire studio and lobby and changing rooms were. Coming from an equally clean studio in SF, this was a breath of fresh air and a welcomed surprise.  I absolutely adored how big and open the studio itself was and really dug the cool synthetic rubber flooring.

As for our instructor, Katy [great name, by the way] was an absolute gem. Not only was she confident in her dialogue , but she also expressed a sincere level of compassion when providing additional instruction to my newbie friend.

The yearly membership is an absolute steal of a deal [then again, coming from San Francisco, my frame of reference might be a *tad* off for the rates of comparable amenities in the Pacific Northwest].  I come up to Seattle often enough for work, family and friends that I could definitely see myself returning on subsequent trips. Why the heck not?

The Modern

Absolutely LOVED my experience here.

My girlfriend and I came here somewhat on a whim when our uptown spa appointments somehow disappeared from their appointment books [weird, right?].

The weather outside, while absolutely beautiful, was snowing up a literal storm and we popped inside The Modern to seek temporary refuge.  Little did we know that waiting for us was their oh-so-friendly waitstaff who would make us feel oh-so-important [apparently we resembled some of their other regulars?], making all of us feel like we were amongst longtime friends.

We sipped on tasty lemon-zest cocktails that had jalapenos and included a gynormous candied ginger piece to accent it; it was incredible.  We also indulged ourselves with lobster sliders [yes!], tuna tartare and some amazing and seemingly crack-cocaine-infused popcorn that had me and my friend speechless and doing double-takes.  It was ridiculously good.  I'd even go so far as to say that it was the best popcorn I've had in my life.

I am sooooooooo coming back here on my next trip out to Manhattan.  Fabulous.

Yeeeuhm, yeeeuhm, delight!

My orphan friends + I [aka "Team Christmas"] came to Plein Sud on Christmas morning to enjoy a delectable brunch and had a great experience.

First of all, let it be known that I am a complete sucker for ambiance and decor and Plein Sud - whoever your designer is, I want to take him home with me!

Secondly, the brunch menu was great and each of us left feeling satisfied with our choices.  I opted for a spinach egg white omelet but made sure I snuck away more than a few of my fellow dining mate's french fries which were thickly cut and to.die.for.

This place is uber cute and it doesn't hurt that I also absolutely adore Tribeca.  Can definitely see myself returning here, or at the very least, recommending it as a potential brunch spot for other friends of mine.  Love.

Public

My experience at Public will likely go down as one of my best meals of 2010.  Service was impeccable, the ambiance was sexy and romantic and the food was absolutely to.die.for.

If the folks who run Public would let me, I'd move right in and make their space my home.  I would wholeheartedly recommend this spot as a great choice for dinner or simply as a place to match up with a few friends for a delicious and creative cocktail.

For appetizers, we shared the scallops, the mushroom ceviche and the foie and each plate packed a flavor punch that could stand on their own two legs.  For my main dish, I ordered the cod and wanted to lick my plate clean but figured that such behavior would repel my fellow diners as well as the staff, so I practiced restraint.

I'd come back here in a heartbeat; only trouble is, I don't live in New York, so I guess I'll just have to wait until the next time I find myself in NoLita.

Fanfreakin'.tastic.

Love the space - think super modern lofty-ish with exposed wood beams, undulating lights that drip from the ceiling and high backed benches for seating options.

The food? Fresh, flavorful, beautifully plated, smart.  Mmmmm.... I want to come back.

The cocktails? Impressive.  I had the Brandy and wound up ordering 2 they were so damn tasty.

Already thinking of coming back soon.  Yeeeeuhm!

Fat Angel is a welcomed addition to the neighborhood, particularly if you're looking for a pre-show drink match up spot with your friends before hitting up The Fillmore.

Beautiful space, friendly staff, convenient location, available parking, delicious eats.... what's not to love?

Four Barrel Coffee

Four Barrel is such a hip space, exactly the type of chicness I would come to expect out of a similar cafe in Brooklyn or Seattle. I came here for the first time on a Saturday with a close friend who shares my affinity for a good cup of joe and together we enjoyed delicious soy lattes while we actively hipster-watched, er people-watched.  I'd definitely come back for more.

For a record store, I'd rate Plan 9 as "decent" but nothing to get super excited about.  While prices are reasonable, I was disappointed in their overall selection.  They definitely have a robust set of indie and rock inventory, but their world music and electronica selection was lackluster, to say the least.

....but then again, maybe I'm just a spoiled bratty SF music snob?  Yeah, that's probably it.  =)

Mmmm... me likie long time!

Olive is the perfect spot to catch a bite and grab a drink if you're planning on hitting up a show 'round the corner at the Great American Music Hall.

I found myself here for the first time the other night with a close friend with equally stellar music taste before catching the Pains of Being Pure at Heart at the GAMH.  I enjoyed myself a tasty Gimlet and together we snacked on the fresh guacamole + chips, fish tacos and the spicy tuna roll [which, P to the S, came out deep-fried and rather phallic-looking!].

I found the ambiance to be cool, sans pretension, and the decor was a hybrid industrial-contemporary. An added bonus was that the bar tenders were super cool.  I'm definitely coming back!
