Dr. Chen is a podiatrist who has been taking care of my feet for several years. She has always been very professional and I've been happy with her treatment when I've needed it. She knows feet!

I had an appointment with her today and was taken into the patient room almost immediately. I waited only two or three minutes for her to come in and she spent about 20 minutes with me (turns out I had a minor inflammation of a tendon in the arch of my foot).  She answered all my questions and, as it wasn't very serious, she simply gave me some exercises to do over the next couple of weeks.

I give Dr. Chen a full 5 stars but have to knock off one star due to the lousy parking at this medical building. Valet only. $3 every 20 minutes with no validation. The office doesn't offer validation! Yikes!

Thai Kitchen

This Thai place is okay - 3.5 stars.

A smallish restaurant that is clean, pleasant, and quiet except for the semi-annoying Muzak that plays. Service is good but nothing special.

Three of us ordered three dishes that we shared along with white rice. Phad See Iw
(sliced beef stir fried with flat rice noodles, broccoli, egg, and sweet soy sauce), Beef Green Curry (ordered with medium spiciness) and BBQ Thai Chicken. I also ordered a Thai iced tea.

The iced tea was average; I enjoyed it but it was just like you'd find in any run-of-the-mill Thai place. The Phad See Iw was very tasty although slightly heavy on the noodles in comparison to the broccoli and beef. The beef curry was my favorite dish - very flavorful sauce and deicious slices of beef.  Warning! Warning! Warning! Avoid the BBQ chicken - it was really dry, the skin was sort of mushy, and the BBQ sauce they put on the side is an inadequate amount and not all that great, although I was pouring it on to get some sort of moisture on the chicken.

The menu is extensive and I definitely will go back to try other things. I think you need to know the right things to order as they seem to do some dishes much better than others. Read other reviews aside from this one to get tips on what to order.

Soy Tofu

Located in an unassuming strip mall in La Palma, I'd never noticed this place even though I've been getting my car washed across the street for the past 8 years.

As best as I can recall, this was my first venture into a Korean restaurant and I did so with someone who could guide me on what to order. Lunch is priced extremely well and dinner looks like a bargain as well. I ordered a bowl of beef tofu.

First a variety of small side dishes came out. They are different every day depending on the whim of the chef. I don't know the Korean names of any of them but I can describe several that I really liked: long sliced radish, spicy sliced cucumber, a mix of sliced potato and carrot, a sort of egg roll, and a mashed squash. The boiling hot bowl of beef tofu was brought out and I was instructed to crack a raw egg into it and mix it around. A side of white rice also came with it which I also mixed into the bowl. Wow, it was an incredible taste sensation. Delicious broth. And it stayed hot throughout the meal right down to my last bite.  I'm amazed to admit that I really liked the tofu.

The woman who served us and who owns the restaurant was so nice. I must admit that due to all the talk I see in yelp reviews of attitude given to non-Koreans at Korean restaurants, I was pleasantly surprised at the fantastic service I received. I was graciously offered a fork as an alternative to the chopsticks which reside on the table. She didn't ridicule me for wanting my soup at the lowest spiciness level. She happily and patiently explained what the sides were to me as I was only able to identify a couple of them. She checked on me several times to see how I liked the various dishes and was delighted to see me enjoy my lunch so much. Excellent service here!

One last random thing that I liked was the carafe of water that was left on the table. Nice touch. Oh, and they give you this little yogurt drink with your check; I don't know what it was but I really liked the taste. That more or less sums up my experience - I don't know what it is but I like how it tastes!

I had lunch here and would give this little eatery 3.5 stars.

I actually drove right by this place without seeing it even though it's right on the street. It's in an industrial complex of car repair businesses and warehouse space so you don't expect to see it there.

I ordered the chicken spinach sandwich with a side of french fries. The sandwich also had melted swiss and tomato and was between two thick slices of ciabatta. They stack the sandwich high. So high that I couldn't take a bite from it; my mouth just won't open that wide! I still made the attempt and realized it was just going to be much too messy. I resorted to cutting it with a fork and knife which made me feel like a bit of a goober but hey, whatever it takes to eat. It was a delicious sandwich and the fries were also really good (not greasy). The fries were served nice and hot as was the sandwich.

My perception is that this is probably a better breakfast place than lunch.

Tucked away in a nice plaza on the corner of Crenshaw and PCH is this amazing Italian eatery. The reviews looked good so we took a chance and it was a far better experience than we could have ever anticipated.

There is a small outside patio, which is where we sat. I never really went inside except to let the hostess know we wanted a table outdoors so I don't really recall the interior other than it was dark and smelled great. Quickly seated on the patio, the service for the entire meal was personable and efficient. Prices for entrees were good, in the $11 - $15 range.

The fresh hot bread was quite wonderful and I had to decline a second basket because I could have easily eaten the whole thing and not left room for dessert. And there was just no way that was going to happen.

I ordered their special - Ravioli Clemintina - ravioli stuffed with 3 cheeses (ricotta, parmesan, and mozzarella) in a tangy tomato sauce and topped with sliced Italian sausage. The sauce had a wonderful rich tomato flavor and the ravioli were simply perfect.

The two other people I came with ordered the margherita pizza and I had to try a slice. Tomato, basil, and mozzarella cheese. As I grabbed a slice, the cheese from  my chosen piece wouldn't let go from the rest of the pizza, the hot strands letting me know that this was going to be a tasty-cheesy treat. And the buttery flavorful crust - mmmmmm - no pizza bones were left. I dared to take a second slice, putting the promise of dessert in jeopardy.

Fear not! I ordered the homemade tiramisu and it was most definitely right up there with the best I've tasted. Very moist and not too sweet with a coffee flavor at the exact level for maximum enjoyment.

I don't live anywhere near Torrance but this will be a destination dining point for us when we are in the mood for great Italian food.

Located inside the Quinault Beach Resort and Casino.

I ate here several times while staying at the hotel - it's a convenient choice if you don't feel like driving into the town of Ocean Shores.  I had a dinner buffet, breakfast buffet, sit-down dinner and sit-down breakfast.

The view of the Pacific Ocean is nice and there is a nice comfortable feel to the seating.  All-in-all the food is average. The sit down meals - ordering off the menu - are definitely far better than the buffets. All my food at the breakfast buffet (scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes) were cold and yucky while the exact same items when ordered off the menu were hot and delicious. The dinner buffet was "okay" - the prime rib was average (not great but not bad), the veggies were good, the salad choices were few and uninspired (just a bowl of lettuce with a couple dressing options), and the desserts were plentiful but not memorable. My sit down dinner was much better - perfectly cooked pork chops with a wonderful spicy pineapple chutney, cous cous, and vegetables.

The service really varied. The breakfast service was very attentive both times and I had no complaints. The dinner service, however, was rather poor. On the occasion of my "sit-down" dinner, the server had no clue what ingredients were in any of the menu items and had no inclination to go ask the chef. For some reason he did a great vanishing act and was never seen again after taking our orders. Our water glasses were often empty and we had to flag down anyone in sight to get our check. The sit down dinner took a long time to arrive after ordering (maybe 45 minutes) even though it wasn't all that busy.

In 4 visits I had a one-star experience, a four star experience, and 2 three-star experiences. Just like the casino it's located in, you'll take your chances as to how good an experience you'll have!

I'm not a gambler and did not spend time in the casino area. This review is just for the hotel portion of the resort.

Staff here is very nice and accommodating. They go out of their way to make your stay as nice as possible. The rooms are very spacious, nice and clean. Plenty of towels and all the usual bottles of shampoo, lotion, mouthwash, and even makeup remover. A daily paper is delivered to your door each morning.

The bed was very comfortable with lots of fluffy pillows. There was a TV in the room but I never even turned it on. The view out the enormous window of my room faced the beach. Gorgeous views of the stormy Pacific Ocean. There was a marsh between the hotel and the beach which I often saw deer jumping through.

My room was surprisingly quiet. I never heard noise coming from my neighbors and the hallway noise was well muted. The in-room heating/AC control functioned very well. My room also had a gas fireplace to further keep me toasty warm.

There was really only one annoyance. Even though my room was non-smoking and did not smell like smoke, just walking through the building, whether to the hotel's restaurant or to the gift shop, made my clothes smell like smoke by the time I got back to my room. They do their best to ventilate but, if you are super sensitive to cigarette smoke, staying at a casino hotel is probably not the best choice.

This review is just for their catering service. I attended a gathering that they catered. The food was amazing.

Fresh flavorful fruit. The most wonderful piping hot clam chowder you'll ever taste. Wrap sandwiches stuffed full of fresh meat, cheese, and veggies. A delicious green salad with an abundance of blueberries. A rich super-moist cake with a berry filling and the best buttercream frosting I've ever put in my mouth.

This place knows how to do a first rate job when it comes to catering!

Crescent Bay Point Park

Beautiful tiny park nestled away just off the Coast Highway on a bluff overlooking the ocean. Located a bit south of Crystal Cove.

While driving into Laguna Beach I noticed a sign indicating a "vista point" and my curiosity led me to investigate. While the little park and its colorful floral garden is lovely, the view is amazing. I stood for half an hour watching dolphins play in the waters below and a whale briefly surface and blow out its spout in the near distance. People were swimming in the waters of Crescent Bay Beach and a handful of scuba divers were having underwater adventures. Children were exploring tidepools in the rocky terrain below and a seal or two would occasionally pop their heads out of the water not too far from shore.

I watched a couple get engagement photos taken here. I thought this would be a perfect place to propose marriage or even to get married. Reading other reviews, apparently this is a popular spot for those wanting a small wedding with one of the most gorgeous views along the coast as the backdrop.

Sometimes we need to stop our busy lives for a few minutes and enjoy a moment at a place like this.

Churrolicious

This is a cart located in the Irvine Spectrum next to the carousel. They sell - surprise! - churros.

They offer 4 different types. I asked for the caramel filled churro and was told it was sold out, that it was a popular choice. My thought is that if it is the most popular then you should have more inventory! I almost said "never mind" but I wanted to satisfy my sweet tooth so I decided to get a regular, traditional churro. He grabbed one from the plastic case and popped it into a mini-oven, telling me it would be just a couple minutes. Five minutes later (and several customers coming up asking for the "sold-out" caramel churro), my churro was removed from the oven and rolled in a cinnamon-sugar mixture and presented to me.

Even though it was an unexpected minor inconvenience to have to wait for a churro to be made (I went here expecting a "grab-and-go" treat), it was piping hot. I thought that was nice at first but then had to wait several more minutes for it to cool down enough to keep from burning my tongue. Once I finally bit into it I tasted sugary sweetness but little cinnamon. It was okay but "okay" is not what you want from a churro.

Even though my sweet tooth was somewhat content the truth is I've had many other churros that were much, much better. To steal Maggie C.'s catchphrase: Churrolicous is almost yummylicious.
