First time to Pacific Pinball Museum in Alameda.  We got there later than I wanted, but we still had 1hr to spend there.  Admission $15pp set for unlimited play.

It's not a very big place.  There's the main entrance & 3 other rooms.  The main entrance had old pinball machines from the 50s & 60s.  You can read about the different machines & take lots of pics.

There's art hanging in one room w/ descrptions of them.  There's a cool clear looking pinball machine.  Indiana Jones has a fake gun you press to release the pinball.  There's a Simpson pinball machine.  I liked the cool recorded playing juke-box machine in the main entrance - very cool.

Soda & snack vending machine available.  Saw a bathroom too.

Closed Mondays
Open:Tues-Thurs - 2pm-9pm; Fri. 2pm-12AM
Sat 11am to 12AM -  Sun 11am to 9pm

Had dinner at East End Pizza in the Alameda Marketplace.  It's really good!  Order at the cashier & they bring the food out to you.  We sat at the counter facing the cooks & the wood burning oven.

Slices available selection changes daily - check Twitter & Facebook for selections.  All pies available as half-bakes.

We got:

Salad "The Joker" $3.75 - just some lettuce, dressing, & cheese.  Simple, but nice.

Diablita $16 - calabrian peppers, house cheese blend, redwood hill farms goat cheese, shaved garlic w/ red sauce.  A bit spicy w/ lots of raw garlic!  If you love Garlic this is the pizza for you!  I loved it.  It's a huge pizza 14", 8 slices.

The Lambeau $16 - from menu: delicata squash, oven-rasted kale & house cheese blend w/ olive oil, finished w/ pecorino romano "snow".  I thought it was just ok, B. liked it very much.  It's a huge pizza 14", 8 slices.

We shared one bottle of GUS Dry Root Beer - I thought it was just ok, I would have been happy with the water they have that's self-serve.

Credit cards allowed.

Closed Monday
Tues-Sat 11:30-8
Sun 11:30-7

Bathroom: Need a coin to use, separate.

Had dinner at Pizza Bocca Lupo on Wed 1/25/12.  We were there early for dinner around 5:30pm.  This place should be busier since it's really good & prices aren't as high as SF!  They have a similar oven as Una Pizza Napoletana in SF.  People working there are Nice & it's a Casual place inside San Pedro Market - nothing fancy, just good eats.

We tried:

Insalata $4.99 - since we mentioned we were sharing they offered to split the salad, that was very nice.  Salad comes w/ arugla, pear, gorgonzola, balsamic vinegar, extra virgin olive oil.  It was a nice salad w/ 5 slices of pear.  Only wish it came with walnuts too, I love walnuts in my salad.

Pizzas are sold Whole 12", NO Slices here.  You can get 1/2 of one type of pizza & 1/2 of another!  Best idea EVER.

We got 1 pizza (1/2 of each type) for $12.99, 2 big slices of each = 4 big slices total:

Diavola $12.99 - Suppose to be Spicy, I didn't notice it, but friend did.  Comes w/ crushed tomatoes, mozzarrella, salame, roasted bell pepper, garlic, crushed red peppers, extra virgin olive oil.  I liked it best, but it was still Hot cuz I ate it first.

Bianca $12.99 - It comes w/ prosciutto crudo, mozzarella, parmigiano reggiano, arugula, balsamic vinegar, extra virgin olive oil.  I thought it was ok, cheese got cold by the time I got to it.

I'll go back for the other 3 types they have:
Margherita $8.99
Joe's Special $12.99
Bradley's Special $12.99

Drinks they have:
Beer, wine, Soda, Bottled Water, Espresso, Cappuccino

Dessert $4.5 - didn't see or ask about

Recommended - go try it!!

Went to lunch at Robee's Falafel on Wed 1/25/12.  It's in the new San Pedro Market that's coming along, still got lots of unopened places.

It's just a food stall you order your food then someone brings it to you.  Tables & chairs nearby.  I got:  lentil soup $4 - a bowl of soup I thought was tasty enough.  Chicken sharwarma wrap I found the meat very dry, not enough hummus in it, some tomato slices, lettuce - it's huge though.  Baklava $2 - too sweet on the bottom, otherwise just ok.  I wish I got the Veggie wrap - maybe next time.  Water - can get your own from the pitcher they had.

Special they had was Gyro sandwich w/ fries $7.99.

I charged it.

We went to Kubota Restaurant after seeing Bo Town was closed & another place.  It has their own FREE parking lot, so don't park on the metered streets.

We were the first ones at the restaurant on Mon 1/23/12 and they put us in the far right end of the restaurant near the window facing the patio.

FREE hot tea & iced water if you want.

I got chicken & tofu curry $9 - huge plate of curry w/ lots of chicken pieces & tofu squares, curry very bland.  Rice was gummy so not very tasty.  Salad - some lettuce, dressing, & some shredded carrots.  Nothing special or tasty.  I did like the side of red Japanese pickles I dumped into the curry.

Co-workers got bento boxes.  They seemed to like their food.  One of the co-workers has eaten there 2 other times, other co-worker mentioned Minato is better.  It was my first & probably last time.

Credit cards allowed.

Went to try out this new location of The Toaster Oven.  I saw it a bunch of times in SF but never ate there, it's a chain that's now in Berkeley near UC Berkeley.  It's a good 10-15 min walk from Downtown Berkeley Bart.

Order a sandwich a person gets it started & puts it in the toaster oven, then go up a bit to another person that fills the sandwich with toppings, then pay.  Credit cards taken.

I picked Kitchen Sink on wheat $4.99.  It's not a big sandwich but they cut it in half, so if you have a friend have them get something else & share a 1/2.  A. got the Piezzano on white $4.99.  I thought the meat was skimpy in both & drippy.  Piezzano was a tiny bit better, but not by much.

Milkshakes are $3.29 - I didn't get.

Seating is counter only.  Need a key for the bathroom - I didn't use it.

Not worth a special trip, but better than Chipotle or Subway, both nearby.

Open Daily: 10:30a-10p

Tip: Cal students w/ ID that buy a sandwich get a FREE fountain drink or bottled water during the month of January 2012!

Went on a FREE architectural tour of Julia Morgan's Mediterranean/Gothic "Little Castle" on Sun 1/22 at 1pm.  It's walking distance from Downtown Berkeley Bart which is Great.  I didn't know she built this!  It's City of Berkeley Landmark #2,1975; Calif. State Landmark #908, 1977; National Register of Historic Places, 1977.

She's the same architect that designed Hearst Castle, this, Phoebe Hearst Memorial Gymnasium at UC Berkeley, the bell tower, library, social center & conference center at Mills College in Oakland, etc.

Tours are only for the first 2 public floors, others are for guests.  We saw the Drawing Room, Theatre, Dining Room, two outdoor courts, & viewing platform of the beautiful Indoor Pool!!  There were guests swimming, that's cool.  Now it's a bed & breakfast hotel, & rooms can be rented for weddings & conferences.

Worth a visit.  Pictures allowed.  Tours are the 4th Sundays of the Month FREE, donations $5 if you want.

FREE - I'm there. I went to the Grand Opening of the Magnes Collection of Jewish ARt & Life on Allston Way, close to Downtown Berkeley Bart.  Got there by 12pn to see the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.  Didn't see the Mayor of Berkeley Tom Bates.  UC Berkeley Marching Band was Great - I watched them perform a few songs.

Got some mushroom/ricotta tarts & cup of iced water.

FREE Small museum, it was super crowded opening day.  There were some Jewish stuff in glass cases, room with some films I guessing is the Dissolving Localities: Berkeley-Jerusalem by Israeli artist & composer Emmanuel Witzthum.  Another digital film in the lobby by a Berkeley-based artist Gale Antokal: The Spill was showing.  Milk spilling down steps.

Went back before 3pm and got a snack of panini & chocolate/walnut cookie from Cafe Panini.

I went on Friday 1/20/12 the day after their Grand Opening.  They are located on San Fernando & 3rd, next to Love's Cupcake & Azucar.  I was the first one there a bit after 11am.  There are plenty of tables & there's a bar you can eat at too.

Service: waitress was very nice.  Getting the food though took forever.

Chips: she did ask me after I was sitting for a while if I wanted some, I didn't want any.

I got:
Regular fish taco - you can get grilled or fried, comes w/ cabbage & house sauce $2.50.  I thought it was ok, not a lot of fish, but overall it was nice.

Also got Soy Chorizo 3" taco with just corn tortillas & meat $2.  It tasted like meat so I was happy.

Carne Asada 3" taco $2 corn tortillas w/ meat.  It was ok.

My total was $7.05 with tax, not including tip.  I paid cash, didn't ask about credit cards.

Later found out my co-worker went at noon & she recommends the Tortilla Soup - chicken, corn, beans, rice, shredded tortillas, avocado, cheese & pasilla chile $8.95.  Maybe I'll try that another time.

Henry W Coe State Park

Update - 1/18/2012 4 photos
We went hiking at Henry W. Coe SP because I've been wanting to do Mt Sizer forever & finally did it Monday 1/16/12 for MLK Jr Day a Holiday for me.  Drive from Fremont took 1.5hrs, parking is Self Registration $8 per car, or $7 for Seniors over 62.

Started at Headquarters after using the bathroom, there's separate men & women.  Women's is just one toilet & one sink behind the Visitor Center.

We hiked from Headquarters, to the Monument, then onto Hobbs Road, a dirt road that's wide.  Vault toilet at Frog Lake, continued on Hobbs Road, another bathroom about 1 mile further.  Had to walk through a creek, but it was low flowing so just hiked to the right of it.  Then there's the very evil "The Short Cut" trail which is extreme steep & seems to be never-ending.  Finally you get to Blue Ridge Road & turn Right.  There's a bench there that even tall people can have their feet dangle from.  That's fun.  Mt Sizer is another mile further, but nothing special there.  No marker, & supposedly there was a Log Book years ago, we didn't go looking for it.  There's a Transmitter, Yellow Park Boundary sign, & another sign that said "Trail" for those continuing the Loop (15mile total).  We did 13 miles (out & back), but it took 9.5hrs because we hike slow & it's a very tough hike.

I hope some hikers can do it & report back.  Evil hike & not much views.  Driving in & out saw 2 deers, saw some ticks on long grasses, saw lots of small birds.  That's about it.

I've been to Henry Coe SP a few times pre-Yelp so finally got a chance to revisit the park on Sun 5/3/09.  It was forecast rain, but it only sprinkled on us.

From Fremont it's 1hr 20 min to get to Park Headquarters.  We were early so didn't have to worry about parking.  At the Headqtrs there's about 20 spots, and there's also an overflow parking lot next door.  Day parking is $5 per car - pay at the Visitor's Center.  Separate bathrooms on the backside of the Visitor's Center.

Nice, but small visitor's center.  We went on a guided hike w/ Greenbelt Alliance.  Hike leader was late & we didn't start until 11:30am or so.  We started down on the Corral Trail - Manzanita Pt - Lt  Poverty Flat rd (pit toilet) - China Hole (swimming is possible here when there's water) 5.4 miles one way.
    http://www.yelp.c...

Back China Hole Trail - to Manzanita Point Rd (pit toilet nearby & Bass Pond) - to Corral Trail - Hdqtrs.

    Total mileage 10.8!

    What I saw:
Coyote w/ a bag of marshmallows seen from the parking lot - Campers: don't leave food lying around!
    Lots of backpackers
Lots of wildflowers: Chinese Houses, Larkspur, Globe Lilies, Johnny Jump-Ups, Poppies, Goldfields, etc.
    Wild Turkey
    http://www.yelp.c...
    Lots of Ticks!

For the general public: Sat. they have nature hikes at 10am, evening presentation at 8pm.  Sun. they have wildflower walks at 11am & 2pm.  Meet at visitor's center.  March-May best for wildflowers.

My goal: To do Mt Sizer in a day- to train for the Sierras.
