Kinnara Thai Restaurant

Thank God Van Nuys finally has a good Thai restaurant!  Since we ate here for the first time about three weeks ago, we've ordered delivery five times (for a party, a business lunch, and three family dinners).  It's that good.  The prices are reasonable and the food is absolutely delicious.  I've always said that if a place can make a simple dish taste savory, then they're really cookin'.  The traditional Pad Thai: out of this world.  We also love the Pineapple Yellow Curry, Tom Ka, and Beef Panang, but really you can't go wrong with any dish.

Andino Construction must use magic.  How else could a contractor rebuild several rooms and a bunch of doors in just a few days?  How else could a contractor  do it for a very reasonable amount and not go over budget?  How else could a contractor leave a house cleaner than it was before construction?  This company is nothing short of miraculous.  I can't image any company doing a better job.  I'm a pretty picky Yelp Elite, but I couldn't be happier!

Not bad.  Not great.  Just your average pasta.  (I don't recommend the pesto, but the lasagna is decent.)

I will say, though, they have a nice outdoor seating area for smokers and some damn fine after-dinner coffee and vanilla ice cream.

Admittedly, there's nothing fancy about the Hampton Inn, but it is consistently comfortable.  The rooms are well appointed, the breakfast and coffee are good, and the pool is nice and warm.  Don't judge the place from its boring exterior or empty parking lot.  It's really quite nice.

We only came here for a Sunday morning breakfast, but it was one heck of a meal.  I had the breakfast sandwich and my friend had the traditional breakfast.  Both were amazing: flavorful, warm, buttery, and seasoned perfectly.  Don't miss the fresh bacon or the savory potatoes!  The Black Rose's food is the perfect hangover cure and the coffee is suitably strong, too.

Fresh pasta.  Incredible sauces.  Too many TVs...but the food's so good, you'll hardly notice.  I'd recommend ordering anything with the word "truffle" in it.  Yum!!!

Brutole Restaurant

GO!  Go now!!  Go immediately!!!

Just ignore the odd location and lack of cars parked outside.  The food here is among the best I've had...in the world.  Yes, seriously.

We had the most amazing meals: lobster macaroni and cheese (with huge chunks of incredibly savory lobster) and white cheese pizza (seasoned with oregano and garlic to absolute perfection) and a side of sauteed vegetables (arranged in a haute cuisine tower).  Even the bread and olive oil they serve before dinner is to die for.

There aren't any words that can adequately describe the flavors of Brutole.  Go today.  Thank me later.

Suite & Tender

We had the European breakfast, which was included with our room at Se.  Ordinarily, I have very low expectations of a "free" breakfast: Raisin Bran, soggy melon, and some OJ.

Suite & Tender's breakfast offerings are amazing.  The homemade granola is incredible and their fresh croissants are the best I've had anywhere.  I mean, better than anywhere in the WHOLE WORLD...and I've had my fair share of croissants.

Seriously.  I am still thinking about the buttery goodness.  Do you think they would FedEx me some if I asked real nice?

The prices we were charged did not match the prices listed on the menu...which were already exhorbitant, considering what they're offering.  The food is passable, but nothing special.  The service is nonexistent.  If you must go, check your receipt before you pay.

Taste & Thirst On Fourth

Thirst?  Perhaps.
Taste?  Um, no.  None at all.

This is a bar that just happens to serve food.

* Tater Tots = Definitely pre-packaged and frozen, with cheap shredded cheddar melted on top.
* Mozarella Sticks = Also pre-packaged.  Several had NO cheese inside.  Seriously.
* Burgers = WAY overcooked...on both their first try and their second try.
* Extras = $3 gets you three tiny slivers of mushy avocado.
* Salad = Lettuce with one onion on top...and not even artfully arranged.

The waitresses are clearly hired for their (ahem) assets, but were very nice and tried to be accomodating.  I feel sorry for them that they have to serve food at all.  The two-for-one drinks are where it's at.
