Really solid dishes.  The fish and chips are fried to perfection, the fish sandwiches are really well-balanced; hell, even the dressing for their salad greens is noteworthy.  I can also recommend the steamed mussels. Yum!

I weirdly can't remember what I ordered the second-to-last time I ate here; all I remember is that it was very good. I think it was one of the fish sandwiches... In any case, I really like their version of the tuna melt.

The service is good, especially given how busy the place gets at lunch and dinner.

I love observing the people who come through to buy stuff from the grocery and cafe. This is defintiely a good place for people-watching, although your companions might find it overly distracting at times =P

1) The grilled chicken sandwich actually feels and tastes healthy! The bread is fresh, the chicken is perfectly juicy and tender, and the barbeque sauce really brings it home. I prefer the BBQ to the normal sauce.

2) The breakfast biscuit sandwich is pretty awesome, too. The biscuit has the perfect crumbly, buttery flavor and texture you'd expect -- in fact, I think next time I'll get the biscuit on its own. The crispy chicken is good but only in moderation.

3) Peach milkshake!! It's seasonal. I waited in line for an hour the day this CFA opened just so I could have one! The ice dream is of course to die for as well. Can't wait til the holiday season, when the mint-chocolate flavor goes online!

4) About the breakfast minis (which look HILARIOUS on the website menu): the bread is sweet!!  The hash browns (which are more like flattened tater tots) are good -- no sogginess or greasiness.

5) On the day this CFA opened, I went over at 9am for breakfast -- I got my picture taken with a cow. I loved that, even after the camera crews left, the cows stood around quietly dancing the whole time! It was unbelievably cute.

I went back for lunch, and the line at that hour was scary-long. But the drive-through line was even more ridiculous. With gas at $4/gal, you'd think people wouldn't mind chucking a few coins in the meters and walking over, instead of stopping traffic on Sunset Blvd? Anyway, they turned on misters to cool us off, but also brought out trays of iced tea in mini cups, as well as bags of coupons and cow plushies.

Those probably won't be around the next time I go back, but that's okay!  I'm so happy this part of LA has a CFA now!

Yalla Truck

If you eat to live and value quantity as much as quality, then you'll be pretty happy with the falafels you get from the Yalla Truck. They taste just fine with the crispy lettuce and pickled veggies. I got 6 or 7(!) falafels stuffed into a normal-sized pita pocket, and while I can't honestly say they were the most delicious falafels I have ever tasted, they were perfectly fine and wow, so filling!

Make sure you grab a fork to eat this thing, because it definitely won't hold together. If you are a falafel snob, you might be disappointed -- but if you are seriously hungry, this is the truck for you!

I don't even know what kind of sauce or dressing I got in my pita. Whatever it was, it was delicious and oh so satisfying!

I like Milk!  Their desserts are delectable -- I got to try the ice cream sandwich and was delighted by the macaron cookies! They lose a bit when frozen, but the novelty of it won me over.

The blue velvet cake is great, as are the shakes and sundaes. I think the only problem I have with it is that it closes so early (a fair percentage of my ice cream craving episodes occur rather late in the evening -- they should anticipate!), and that it's usually hard to find a seat.

If your sweet tooth can't handle the crowds, Susina is within walking distance down the street, and they have a wider cake selection =)  But then again, you are probably at Milk for the ice cream, in which case, it's hard to do better in West Hollywood.

The food is okay -- there was nothing particularly impressive about their blueberry pancakes or omelette, nor the coffee.  I suppose I could've been more adventurous and tried the bibimbap-style farro or the other cool-sounding things on their menu, but I wanted pancakes!

I do like the ambience of the place; it feels very casual and easygoing. The space can be a little cramped when full, but it's still okay for a quiet brunch for two or three.

Be sure to pop into the store next door -- it's full of fun, crazy stuff!

Winchell's Donuts

I am here almost weekly -- don't judge!! It's directly across the street from where I work, so I drive past it every morning, and on good days, my coworkers and I run over for a quick sugar fix. The best days are when someone brings in a baker's dozen to share!

My favorite thing about this store is how the sprinkled donuts sport colors to fit the yearly parade of seasons/holidays. Pink for Valentine's day, green for St. Patricks, and so on.

The old-fashioneds are solid, if just a bit too greasy. On lucky days, the raised donuts will be delightfully poofy and round -- and thus impossible to resist!

The ladies behind the counter are sometimes distracted (talking on the phone) but they generally tend to the customers well enough even when they are multitasking.

The bagels are also good to get, toasted.  The only flavor of theirs I don't like is the maple; it gets a bit sickening after a few bites.

Which Wich Superior Sandwiches

Really nice place -- great bread, which totally makes the sandwich, especially when toasted!  I got turkey+stuffing+cranberry. They were light on the stuffing and heavy on the cream cheese (one of the options I selected), and it wasn't really as Thanksgiving-y as I'd been hoping for, but it was still a good sandwich in and of itself.

The sheer number of options to choose from (sauce, cheese, spread, veggies, mustard) is almost paralyzing, but I certainly appreciated them!

The overall quality of everything seemed high -- it was so nice to taste real cranberries in August!

My only wish now is that they would open one up near my work, in Hollywood!

Del Taco

The coworkers and I were pretty bummed when the one at Santa Monica/Highland shut down, and commensurately excited  when this finally opened up!  This place is clean, and looks pretty nice -- I like the news, typographically progressive signage and wall art ("Fresh. Flavor. Nachos").

It was heartening to see real chicken being grilled behind the counter. But a burrito this cheap really has no right to be so filling. Also, my tortilla smelled like  Home Depot.

If you're a fan of Del Taco, you'll be just fine. If you're not, I'm not sure why you're reading this review.

The people behind the counter are the nicest people ever! They are almost too friendly, happily ignoring a growing line of customers while they chat away merrily with whoever is currently at the front of the line.

The food is good, though -- I ordered the apple pecan skillet pancake, and though it was ever so slightly undercooked, I could easily understand why -- it's ginormous!!  I did manage to put away the whole thing, though, and it was mostly delicious.

My lunch companion ordered something with home fries and vegan bacon. I found the fake bacon suspicious but apparently it does its job. The home fries were great!  Would come again.

Waffles de Liege

My coworkers and I have been intrigued by liege waffles for awhile -- we haven't tried the brick 'n mortar Shaky Alibi, since it's a bit too far to walk to from the office. But when we heard about this truck, and found out it was hitting up our usual lunchtime truck stop, we were the first ones in line!

Anyway, this truck is pretty good, for a food truck that serves dessert waffles. The sugar crystals add a nice touch to the dense, chewy waffle. Speaking of which -- no, this is not like your ordinary Belgian waffle (although those are also very delicious). The liege waffle is much thicker and more filling.

I ordered the speculoos topping (another office obsession) on mine, and it was good. But next time I'm gonna get nutella, my first love.  And possibly some ice cream, although it gets a bit pricy if you get everything you want.  But so's life!

By the way -- the truck smells AMAZING from far away while it's cooking up the waffles, so if you're weakly armed against temptation, I would walk as far outside the radius of this truck as possible. It's also hard to take when you realize how long you have to wait to get your waffle. But once you take the first bite...mmmm
