This store has a huge variety of foods imported from Poland, and other Polish treats from elsewhere, including a large selection of meats from Joe & Frank's Sausage Co. in Chicago, as well as a hot bar where you can get freshly prepared foods, and a nice sitting area to eat there. The owners, including their adorable children who can often be seen around the store, are extremely nice people. This place opened just before Christmas 2008 and I hope it succeeds!

To elaborate on my experience: I was taken here while visiting the city. We went at around 1:00 on a Sunday, and that's the perfect time to get a Polish Platter heaped with deliciousness -- when you know you'll be able to walk most of it off. It also comes with a small plate of three salads. A very well-rounded meal. The $8 won't break you, either! Get an order of the potato pancakes for the table - delicious, but I can't imagine eating more than one.
The decor is more than enough to keep you stimulated on the reasonable wait for the food. Can't wait to go back!

We started with the spring rolls (great) and then split vegetable green curry and shrimp pad thai. I wish I had read the reviews first! This place was SUPER SPICY! In Pittsburgh I usually order 9 or 10 and they refuse to make it hot enough. However, we ordered 6 on their scale of 7 and could hardly make it through the food! I know - that's my problem, not theirs! Though the burning overpowered my experience (they were quick to refill our water glasses, though I guess water doesn't help anyway) I can say that it was tasty and well-made, with good ingredients. Portions are on the smaller side, which is not to say that it's not a good value or that you'll be hungry afterwards, but that you can get an appetizer too and not have to worry about lugging leftovers around.
The bathrooms are also funny, considering that I am 5'4" and could hit my head on the ceiling of the ladies' room standing on my tippy toes! That's not a negative, though - this is a humble, cozy and welcoming place. I'd go back next time I'm hungry on South St. - and order a 5.
There was a great selection of several pies ready to go. I had the white with tomato and spinach and it was transcendantly garlicky. Slices are big and "pricey" for Pittsburgh, maybe, at $3.75-$4.25, but you will probably be satisfied by one, or two if you're starving.
I usually go to the Robinson location as it's near my office. It's a lot more spacious than the Oakland location, which can feel a bit claustrophobic to me on a busy night. (Though late nights there are fun with half-off food specials after 11...)
I like getting the chips with different dips. The Yucatan Bean Dip is to die for, and the Dos Equis queso dip and fire-roasted tomato chipotle salsa are also great. For entrees I usually go with the fish tacos or one of the quesadillas.
They have great lunch specials too. I can get a huge quesadilla and a salad with their delicious lime-cilantro dressing for like $7! Good Happy Hour specials, too, on margaritas and drafts.
Authenticity aside, I've been here a million times and I know I will be here a million more.

Though this place is certainly humble, service is fine. The staff were very good sports about accommodating our large group, which was a bit ramshackle and gregarious. We weren't even sure how many people were coming, and once we had all arrived, they helped us sit in a more comfortable place for a group our size, not seeming at all annoyed at having to deal with a large group. We did go on a Monday evening, though, that was fairly quiet.
I agree regarding the affordability - our bill averaged out to $14 per person, including the tip, and that's after ordering many appetizers, desserts, etc in addition to the entrees. I can't wait to go back! If not for it being a little removed from the city, I think I would eat here all the time.
It's BYOB, FYI.

I had the Mexican Scramble ($11), which was delicious - I ate every bite - and served with toast and potatoes, so a real opportunity to carb-load for the rest of the day.
I'm not in the habit of spending $15-20 on breakfast, so I don't know if I'd go here ALL the time, but it's tasty and a fun experience. I'll likely go back to try an adult beverage or two, which I just wasn't feeling up to at 9 a.m.
