Rock climbing was the shiz, and Monica didn't let me die, and Colleen actually knows what she's doing. Holy moly was I a big ole chicken but now, I am chicken no more! I didn't even chip my nail polish (pshaw, ok, I only went up once).

I definitely want to send a lot of love and gratefulness to the staff...cos let's face it, we were obnoxious and you guys were amazingly patient with our jokes and inability to tie knots. And you got us up and down safely. I'll be back for sure some time...when the urge to do something different for health kicks strikes me again. However, I must say, damn those shoes are UNCOMFORTABLE!

A bottle of Maker's in the VIP lounge we made for ourselves AND I got to be a hero? Not too shabby for a Friday night. Not too shabby at all.

Y'alls my faves. Nuff said.

I was intrigued when I got a menu in the mail. Who sends a take out menu by mail? For a Mexican place? And damn, look at those prices, it's so cheap. We were intrigued and decided we would get dinner the next day from here, as the menu looked fantastic and cheap.

Two hungry ladies ran away from the city to indulge in a feast. It consisted of:
2 tacos (carne asada) - fantastically delicious. Tender meat, clearly really freshly cooked.
Guacamole and chips - generous portion, clearly amazingly fresh, with some of the lightest and crunchiest corn chips I have ever tasted
Ceviche de Veracruz - we went with fish, and the amazing citrus smell filled my whole apartment (OK, it's not that big of a space to fill, but impressive nonetheless)
Quesdaillas - we got straight cheese, which was anything but straight cheese as it came with two kinds, gooey and delicious

They also gave us some pico that made us exceptionally happy too! Very quick delivery, which was good cos we were really hungry. I plan to order from here over and over and over again, and even go there! This is going to be a major part of my dining repertoire in Queens.

Sushi Mambo

Sheryl and I went a-wandering, and a-searching for a-food, but it was around 11pm so we were kind of limited in options (yes, even in NY, sometimes restaurants stop serving food). We found Sushi mambo and we wanted Japanese, so hey, there we go.

I had some rolls, Sheryl had some soup, and all was well. They did kind of rush us through the meal, as they were closing soon, which was slightly annoying. The food didn't stand out as particularly great or particularly terrible, so thus we have 3 stars. Sake was good, too, but you can't really mess up sake.

I'd eat here again, probably a little while before it closed, if I wa in the hood and saw it. I don't think it was anything spectacular to seek out again. Unless you really like the steep stairs to the bathroom downstairs.

99 Cents Treat

99 cents is definitely a misnomer, the prices range from 25 cents to a few bucks. It's a big mess, so yeah, you usually have to either wander around aimlessly til you find what you want (or it finds you), or ask someone. Luckily the staff seems to have figured out where everything is, even if it makes no sense (I guess they think everyone keeps dressing and hardware together).

I swing by here when I need some random item, or when I feel like seeing if they have some useless crapola that I can shove somewhere in my closet, bathroom, cupboards, etc.

I Am Thai

Neighborhood: Woodside

For the most part, I order from Dee. It's just better, for pretty much everything. However, sometimes I Am Thai is open when Dee is not, and sometimes, there are a few key items that I really crave on their menu.

Their pad thai is really mediocre, which is upsetting, but they make up for it with a MEAN ASS MOFO curry puff!! I have never had a better one anywhere, and trust, I have eaten more than my fair share of curry puffs. These are like crack!

The curry is pretty good, but the problem is, they never make it right. If I ask for medium, it burns my mouth off (an undesirable effect if you'd like me to taste your food), and if I ask for mild, it's bland (not much use either). This makes me a sad panda, because I really like curry. Guess Dee is going to be my fix for that, also.

I dig that they do free Thai iced tea coupons with their take out menus, kudos. Way better than a free soda!

Note: I've only had delivery, never actually been to the place, and they are usually fast, which is also clutch.

So, granted, I came here for a company event and thus I was not paying for my way, but it was amazing regardless!

We came as a group for cocktails and canapes. The first trays came out fairly quickly, and we were apprehensive that we would only get one tray of each, but luckily they really kept them coming. The bubbly was a nice touch, so happy holidays y'all (yeah, it was a holiday event).

Every bite was a delectable delight (did you see what  did there?? Eh??) and I must say, it would be impossible to pick a favorite. From the tuna spoons (something amazing in there in the sauce) to the beef (small skewers with some delicious sauce) to the smoked fish in mini pancakes (nothing like what your grandma would make, unless your grandma is also Gordon Ramsay's grandma), everything was amazing.

We did have a  momentary scare when a colleague was not informed that one of the canapes was scallops, and he is deathly allergic to seafood. Good thing he managed to get it out of his mouth prior to swallowing, or it could have ended quite badly. In general, I'd advise they warn folks, especially for common stuff like seafood or nuts!

I must also give kudos for the beer selection (they have Ommegang, a fave brewery of mine), as well as the wine selection (many bottles, many prices). Service was pretty good, occassionally we felt abandoned, but generally they were happy to have us ordering more (well, duh).

Overall, we had a great time here, and I would definitely hold a small event or possibly even a dinner party here, at some undisclosed point in the future when i can afford it!

This is where I go because I despise the Rite Aid by me (see review, cringe at roaches, then come back here). And also because I am often way too lazy to walk allllll the way to CVS on 40th street. That's like a serious hike, yo!

It is relatively clean, although definitely on the smaller side for your typical Duane Reade. I have been fighting getting a rewards card, but I may crumble eventually and stuff yet another useless piece of plastic in my wallet. Something to look forward to, I suppose.

I came here for Sheryl's art opening, so it was a pretty special event, but I thought it was a great space and a great time overall! I showed up early, so I ended up hanging out with the owner and one of the bartenders, drinking wine and watching Halloweeen or some other ghastly movie.

The bar is split into two rooms, one is the dance floor and the other room was set up as the art gallery.  This was great cos Mekanik Dolls showed up to DJ and do a performance piece, but you could always go wander away to the gallery to chat, drink, and of course check out Sheryl's awesome art!

The drinks are decently priced, although as soon as the "real" bartendress showed up, the wine went up by a dollar a glass, and definitely not a single buy back. Guess I have gotten spoiled in Queens with buybacks...

The credit card machine was broken, so no idea on the complaints on limits, but cash goes a long way! I'd come back some time for sure, just probably later at night and with some dancing shoes on!

I debated between 2 and 3 stars for quite some time, but decided I'd be nice and put 3 after all.

I came here with two colleagues (one a fellow Yelper even!) the day of Christmas Eve (does that even make sense?), having been here a few nights before for a company event where we had some pretty good stuff.

We agreed that we'd played it pretty safe previously (garlic shrimp, chicken wings, not exactly hardcore tapas) and wanted to get some really neat stuff this time. We got octopus, braised short rib (yes, singular, I thought it was a typo but more on this below), patatas bravas, potatoes with chorizo, piquillo peppers, empanadas, and the duck-pork pate. Now, I don't eat pork, so I can only speak to the octopus (delicious), the patatas bravas (pretty good, I lived on these for 4 months in Barca so it is hard to impress me with those), piquillo peppers (stuffed with lobster, yummy), and the short rib (delicious and fantastic). Oh, and of course, the sangria. Yum.

So why only 3 stars? OK, I know tapas are small portions. But this was ridiculous. The braised short rib? It's ONE little rib. I mean, come on, how can anyone really share that? The octopus had about 6 pieces and some chickpeas. The bravas were a decent portion, but it's freakin potatoes and if you skimp on those your restaurant should just burn down. The biggest portion was the piquillo peppers, which had 2 little peppers stuffed, but little nonetheless. Everything was delicious, but the portions were obscenely tiny. This was straight up ridiculous portioning, and it's almost insulting to think this stuff can be shared. It's not even enough for one person.

The portions were so tiny that we then also ordered the cheese croquettes and the fried cod, both of which were larger portions and definitely delicious (I'd definitely stick to those over other options if you are hungry). Our waiter was fantastic, and helped us figure out what to get when we were still hungry (I think he knew the portions were way too small), so kudos on that.

Overall, it is good but you definitely feel ripped off. I'd avoid it for an actual meal and head down for an after work drink and a snack, or just the sangria. There are some amazing tapas places out there in NYC...this just isn't one of them, unless you don't like to actually eat your tapas.
