We recently had a birthday dinner for my sister at this restaurant, and we had a good meal. Being located next to the old San Leandro Marina makes the setting unique to the area. However, Horatio's is a good restaurant with "great restaurant" prices. All items in the appetizer sample were very tasty, especially the flavorful dip and teriyaki beef... but $36 of tasty? Not really. All the dishes my family tried that day were very good. But all were lacking an elevated preparation and presentation that would justify the price. The Almond Crusted Scallops my mother ordered were probably the best. Very flavorful, lightly crispy on the outside and perfect texture inside. My Blackened Mahi Mahi was good but not memorable, same goes for my husband's Seafood Trio. We had great service from an attentive waitress who never let me run out of my Arnold Palmer. The experience was over all very positive and fun, and I know that it is hard to make a restaurant work without higher prices these days. And I feel good helping out venerable establishments like this. But maybe just a little more finesse with the dishes would make the prices more justified.

The food was very good. And the restaurant wasn't busy, so we got seated right away. Our waitress was quick and friendly. The swamp water tea was delicious, if a little small for $6. Fried Okra was great. I enjoyed my Po' Boy sandwich, it was a bit messy, but the oysters were flavorful. My husband thought the ribs were perfectly cooked, and enjoyed his beans. The only real disappointment was the Sweet Potato Fries which were limp and soft. The outside seating made it so we could enjoy the pleasant afternoon weather.
Ain't nothing wrong with a sandwich from a fast food establishment once in a while. We ordered the standard Spicy Chicken Sandwiches from Popeyes, that not so long ago was all the rage. We also had the 2 for 1 BBQ wings. Since we ordered these from UberEats, the crispiness of the chicken I normally associate with Popeyes wasn't there, obviously lost in transportation. But the flavor was there, just enough heat, with a big chunk of chicken on the sandwiches. The wings were still fairly crispy, and tasty. But oh my these wings are small. Where do they find that size of chickens? Also oddly our order had a full size drumstick, not sure if that was a feature or a mistake. Delivery guy was fast, so props to Uber drivers.
Good little take-away poke spot. Clean inside. Nice chap making the bowls, he was efficient and fast. The rainbow bowl I had was tasty. My husband enjoyed the burnt tips bowl. This is not a destination spot, but if you're in the area, it's a satisfying meal.
Those three stars I just gave this establishment pretty generous. Because honestly, I was kind of disappointed with my meal. First of all, the place is very cozy. And we had excellent service. It was a good spot to chat with friends and catch up. The appetizers we ordered were quite good. The hummus was tasty with a perfect texture, and the falafel balls, while they were weirdly shaped, were actually quite crunchy on the outside, moist and flavorful on the inside. I could not complain about those at all.
Then I made the mistake of all the Loaded Shawarma fries for my entrée. Fries were greasy, Beef Shawarma was dry. Very dry. My friend had a Chicken Shawarma plate, and the chicken was also very dry.
Another friend had an Eggplant and Cauliflower Wrap that he throughly enjoyed. So I guess the bottom line on this place is just ust stay away from the meat.
